How are prices over there these days? It's been a few years since I was in Seoul. Everything was dirt cheap back then - I remember paying for 6 or 7 people in a student-type bar and it came to below 40 bucks. I've heard anecdotally that things are getting much more expensive. How much is it to eat out, go drinking etc?

Is $15 upper end or a normal meal? I remember Korean barbecue being under $7. This was 2009.

Since we know that game in Korea cab go back and forth.. I'm just gonna drop the data that I know is pretty consistent.

A USD is a little better than the won
10,000 won is usually about 9 dollars.
For the sake of cost. I just tell myself that 1000 won is a dollar.
That way I don't worry about the charge


Average lunch for me is about 10k
I end up going out to eat pretty often so for dinner I will usually pay
15-30k

It took me a couple tries to figure Korean style food out
But the average meal ( if it isn't a soup) is pretty much made for two people.
So 25k won dinner is usually eaten by me and a friend.
Sometimes three.

I played 32k earlier this week at a beef and leaf and the three of us went home full.

I've also found a couple all you can eat Korean places that are within the 15k won rate

There a couple places that a meal will almost full me for 5 to 8k won.. But I usually eat a lot.


At the same time...
I can image that I'm paying a slight bit more.
I've limited myself to places where I can get by with my little Korean.. Or the workers can speak enough English to guide me to a good meal.


More than enough times though, I've just let the owner of a place pick a meal for me on some random side street.
And often times.. I end up paying a tad bit less than places off main streets.

One thing that I do like, is that Koreans are very welcoming when it comes to food.
You don't really need language to know food.
Old ladies will guide me into a whole in the wall and the next thing you know, in feasting for a couple dollars.

I'm curious what people are paying for housing.

Again. I don't speak Korean. So I always assume I'm getting the foreigner price.
In Hungary I was splitting a two bedroom apartment next to a bar for 500 euro.
That was expensive my Hungarian standard, but cheap to me.

Right now I am paying 1 million won
Which is a little less than 1000 USD a month.
For a three bedroom two bath apartment.
Utilises currently cost me like 50 USD a month and I pay and extra 35 or so for olleh cable and high speed internet.

The other apartments in the building are wired for olleh, so that's pretty much the only choice I had.
I don't use the cable.. Because out of the hundreds of channels. Only like 6 are English

But the internet is amazing.. At like 90Mbps over my WiFi router.
You can download blue ray movies in a 15 minutes with a good seed.

I live by myself,
But I liked the balcony of this place and I could turn over room into a office and have a spare for friends to crash.

1k USD for three bedrooms is extremely cheap to me considering 1k would barely get you a bedroom in shared place in Charleston it Atlanta

I'm actually wondering if I could rent the third bedroom in air bnb. Every now and then.. But I don't know how that falls under Korean law

I did date while I lived in Seoul, but had no problems splitting the bill with the girls. I was there as an exchange student though, which definitely was favorable toward me doing this. Some girls even paid for me sometimes. I would say it is similar to Japan in the way that age matters a lot regarding who is paying most.

I don't really think prices are too much different than where I've lived before.
Name brand alcohol is expensive. Unless you have a connect to get american prices

But corner stores have enough beer mixed drinks and soju to get the job.

Personally i don't think 10-15k won is horrible for a cocktail.
You would pay 15 USD for a cocktail or ten dollars for a shot in higher prices cities in the states.

The little corner bars often have drinks more reasonably priced.

After living in Hungary for a while and spending next to nothing for everything, I still don't feel like I'm being ripped off paying normal prices in Korea.


I notice a lot of bars and clubs sell bottles.
I've seen like 99k to 150k for bottles of vodka and such

I use to rip on bottle service, but it doesn't seem like you pay for the table.
You just pay for the bottle
And find any available table.

Tables aren't roped off away from places, so you can easily walk to people at a table and try to chat them up.

One that note.. Drunk Korean guys seem to love me and pour shots.
Economically.. If you are with a couple friends, I think it's a good idea to buy a 750ml bottle of vodka.
Because you might end up paying more per person if you just buy individual shots.

For the last couple months it has been mid 80s
But humidity is always at least 50 percent.
So if I'm out during the day I get really sticky.


In the cities, you also have to deal with the smog.

Especially Seoul, there an obvious have in the mornings and the evening.
But I think the weather in Seoul is a bit cooler.

I haven't been here long enough to experience winter, but I heard that winter in the north is pretty bad.

I have never really lived in places where it snows.. But it also humid.
I can't give a location.

I lived just north of Seoul a few years ago. Was still connected to the Seoul train lines but just on the outskirts.

Winters are fucking cold, walking around outside for 15 minutes would give me icicles on my eyebrows.

But the heated floors in Korea rock.

I'm back out of quarantine, I thought I had MERS for a while.
But now that the scare is finally over, I can drop a couple updates.

I'm up to a total of 5 lays now. Even though I work damn near 6 days a week, I'm slowly finding a social groove.

The other weekend, I went up to Seoul to meet up with a cousin of mine.
We stayed in a Hotel in Gangnan called:
IMI Hotel

It was a relatively cheap place for Gangnam (Or so I'm told)
Its like 50k during the weekday and 70k during the weekend.
It had a Jacuzzi, Bed, Couch in the room, entertainment system....I haven't been in many Korean Hotels.. But this place was amazing by American Hotels of the same price.
Its also right near the Seoksam train station.


I honestly, could not point to the train station on a map, I just navigated the subway there from Seoul Station.
From there..Taxis are still standard price around Gangnam.


We went to a club called

Massive club that is underneath a hotel. The place has a big stage area and a couple VIP rooms. Great ventilation like all good Korean Clubs.

The cover charge was 30k but you got 3 drink Tickets to go with it.
2 were mixed drinks and one was a beer ticket.
This might be subject to change whenever though.

This place had some top quality chicks but as suspected...A group of Korean guys befriended my cousin an I, and probably dropped at least 100 dollars in drinks, just on the two of us.
A Korean girl I was chatting up told me that Korean guys look as Blacks as status symbols that elevate themselves to look cool.
*One part of me could care less...cause free drinks and laughs (most Koreans couldn't save their lives with a two step)... but another part of me realizes that we are just in the group to dance for/with everyone and make them look cool.
My nightly friendship is literally being bought, by Korean guys.

In the end..my cousin and I planned to leave with two chick. One Korean and one Israeli.
But these girls were a bit naive and or ignorant....Or we were naive and ignorant.
They wanted to go to a karaoke place at around 6am....
I thought it was ridiculous that they kept wanted to go elsewhere.. when we had a taxi ready to go back to the hotel.
We ended up leaving them and saying fuck it.

Seems like your experience is confirming what I said.

Many girls will shut you down automatically if you open in English. I only knew 1 or 2 guys that did well at cold approach without speaking Korean. But if you speak well and the rest of your game is there (doesn't hurt to be good-looking), a new lay every week is pretty standard.

Your observations are right about Korean girls and black guys. I saw more black guys with hot girls in a single week in Japan than I saw in 3 years in Korea. That's probably why online apps are the way to go if you're black, so the girls can meet you on the low. I'd ride the HelloTalk wave as long as possible: it's perfect for giving girls plausible deniability for banging foreigners (even more important for Korean girls) since it's an "anti-dating" and "language exchange app." I'm actually kinda jealous of you, HelloTalk wasn't around when I was there.

Haeundae is the main beach and Seomyeon is the.main clubbing area. Id book a hotel in Seomyeon.beforehand, you can probably find something reasonable and everything is walkable in that area. The two main clubs are Fix and Grid.

Gwangali is the college town area, you might also wanna consider staying and partying there since if you only speak English.

Busan girls are just as hot as Seoul ones and more friendly to foreigners in my experience.
