Tide detergent thefts
Weird. Shoplifters are filling carts with Tide clothing detergent and running for the door. It's now an item of barter among people looking to avoid cash transactions when buying drugs.

Near Mineapolis, cameras caught 53-year-old Patrick Costanzo stealing more than $25,000 worth of the product over the course of 15 months.

“It’s like he put the pieces in there like Tetris pieces. He maximized that cart, there’s no wasted space,” said investigator Sean Melville of the West St. Paul police.

And then we are much better than the Gammas and Deltas. Gammas are stupid. They all wear green, and Delta children wear khaki. Oh no, I don't want to play with Delta children. And Epsilons are still worse. They're too stupid to be able to read or write. Besides they wear black, which is such a beastly color. I'm so glad I'm a Beta."

I don't get it why are they stealing the laundry detergent? Are the dealers running laundromats as a drug front or something haha

Its something almost everyone is gonna need. It doesn't spoil. It doesn't require any special area to hold it. It can easily be divvied up.

How can detergent possibly be valuable enough to use as currency? Wouldn't a jug of it be like, what, a few joints?

That is a really good way to filter drug money.

The Tide has to be ending up somewhere that laundry detergent is impossible to get (i.e. mountainous narco state). Otherwise, this makes no sense.

It appears there's certain items considered "too low in value" to add alarm tags to. So people like Costanzo are just loading up carts with non-tagged items that don't send off the exit alarms when they walk out the door, but are also so bulky they're seldom bagged by the cashiers.

So you can fill up a cart with liquid detergent, paper towels and toilet paper, and since none of its bagged (too bulky) and none of them are tagged (don't set off the exit alarm), it's stress free shop lifting. Just roll out he door. Looks normal to the security staff since its all bulky stuff that doesn't get bagged --no security response. And since there's no tags you don't set off any exit alarms. No response at all. Nothing.

Now if they had a person at the exit that checks your cart against your receipt like Costco and some Walmarts do, they would have got caught.

They're stealing Tide because it's considered a premium brand of detergent. This is a coup/free advertising for Tide, today sucker that I am, in the grocery store, I needed to pick up some detergent and ofcourse this story was on my mind so I picked up Tide instead of the cheap stuff.
