Good. People deserve second chances. As much as I like dogs, I feel he's paid more than enough for the crime.

Agreed. Ray Lewis basically got away with murder, and he didn't get half the shit Mike Vick did. The man did his time, let him earn a living.

Good for him. In a fucked up way, prison/bankruptcy might have been the best thing to happen to him.

By having EVERYTHING taken away from him, he (hopefully) learned to be extra cautious with his finances the second time around. While it is extraordinarily common to hear about pro-athletes filling bankruptcy, usually it is at the end of their careers, when they have no more earning potential. With Vick, he went through this experience in the middle of his career and still has a chance to make use of the lesson he learned.

No, Vick went broke because of mismanagement of his money. He was drafted in 2001 and made enough money between then and his dogfighting arrest that he'd have been set for life w/o smart money management. All that being said, I went to Virginia Tech, am a fan of Vick, and am glad to see him get his head on straight and his life turned around even though what he did to some of those animals was sickening.

Is there some "mismanagement" in there? Sure, but Vick filed for bankruptcy because he was incarcerated, thus had no income coming in, and there were all kinds of fingers in his bank account while he was locked up. If not for the bust, it's still business as usual. And he would have signed at least one more large deal, maybe two. That's not to say shortly after retirement, like most athletes, he wouldn't have been broke, but the reason he filed when he did wasn't mismanagement on HIS part. It was the government, the Falcons, and his homies stealing.

For me, it isn't the fact of how Vick lost his money that is important. What was important to me is he received a first hand experience that all of his money could be taken away. So many athletes spend money with the implicit assumption that it will be there forever. The experience Vick had (hopefully) changes one's perspective the second time around.

There is more then enough 'mismanagement' for most people to retire comfortably on.

I totally agree. He's a better QB and (seems) to be a better person. I guess he made the best of his time and its rare careers get interrupted like his. Hopefully Philly will plug the holes next year. I can't wait to see people's heads explode if Vick wins it all.

And back to Vick. Has anyone been more polarizing recently??? I mean, that Philly-ATL game in Atlanta featured one of the most bizarre sights I've ever seen in sports. All the black ATL fans had on their old Falcons Vick shirts on. All the white ATL fans had Matt Ryan shirts on. It was amazing- man I was getting OJ/Plessy flashbacks.

I know there's a lot of criticism of DeSean's attitude last season. But let's look at it from his point of view. He's been an incredible playmaker for the Eagles. Flat-out WON games for them. He outperformed his contract. This guy is maybe 150 pounds soaking wet, and I remember him getting laid the fuck out and concussed, but came back and still balled. What is that worth? Instead, they throw all kinds of money at free agents, but don't take care of a guy that was putting it on the line for them and risking his little skinny neck. He had every right to be pissed. Also, the contracts in the NFL are worth the paper they're printed on. At any time, the team can decide they want you to rework your contract and GIVE MONEY BACK, or they'll simply cut you, even with years still on that contract. Your career could get ended on each play, so I can't be mad at a guy for wanting to get every penny he can get right now.

I cant blame Desean Jackson either. He was making about $2mil when guys w/his level of talent were making 4 times that. But apparently he was ultra stressed last year because he was broke. That problem just got solved, he signed a big contract yesterday. Lets see how that works out.

I love DeSean, but its fair to say he's his own worst enemy. Regardless of salary, you gotta' show up if you signed the deal. They should have been in the playoffs, not the Giants. Philly will be straight next year with a better defense and a happy DeSean.
