I spent a week in Moscow this month and enjoyed it tremendously - I'm posting a datasheet, because the ones we have are from 2011 and 2010, and I think I have some good and up-to-date tips and info to share.
I was there on a business trip, with the plus being (obviously) that I didn't spend my own money, but the minus was that I had to work all day in an office building, so no day game opportunities. Also, at evenings some of my AFC coworkers wanted to socialize in the hotel restaurant which cost me valuable game time, but I still managed to go out and get a feel of the nightlife of this great city.
Girls - world class. The average girl here is cute, and the pretty girls are just incredible. Feminine too - they put an effort in things like dress, hair, make-up. Also, the sheer quality of them is overwhelming - this city is home to 15 milion people, many of whom are young girls. When you walk down the street, ride the metro, or enjoy a break in the courtyard of your office building, you always see eye candy - lots of it.
Busted dude test - pass. However, with a disclaimer that this goes for average girls, meaning you'd see a 4-6 dude with a 5-8 girl. 9s and 10s however, I can't imagine them dating busted dudes - unless they are loaded. That said, there are so many loaded guys here that it's unreal. You have to see it to believe it. All the oil money that flows in the country has to end up somewhere, and often it's in the pockets of the connected guys in Moscow. So there are many dudes driving expensive cars, wearing expensive clothes, well-groomed, and with thicks wads of cash in their pocket. You'd face some tough competition if you are going after top-tier girls.
Opening - the "most fun" opener seems to work well here - thanks Uncle Roosh. In my imperfect Russian I translated this as "Devushka, kajetsya vy zdes chelovek, kotoroy luchse vseh veselitsya!". No matter what she answers, you can follow up with "Ya dumal, cho etot chelovek ya!" -
I thought I was that person. I tried other openers too, whatever came to mind, and the girls were rarely bitchy, especially those who ranks as just "pretty" and not "gorgeous". Thinking back now, I should have probably gamed in English, because my Russian is fluent but imperfect, with some issues both in grammar and in accent. So they might have thought I was some peasant from some of the -Stan's or the provinces, trying to pick-up a Moscow girl, rather than a cultured American/European. So some turned away after a minute or two, without having a chance to find out more about me.
Costs - you have probably heard that this is one of the most expensive cities in the world, and I certainly got that impression, too. Very few things are cheap, such as cigarettes and gas. Everything else is very expensive, such as hotels, restaurants, clothes, etc. I stayed in a good hotel paid by my employer, which was $250 a night. This is with a corporate rate, so on your own you will probably spend more. Budget hotels are probably crap and in bad locations, affecting negatively your logistics. I have no advice for those who want to stay in hostels - no impressions.
You pay everything in Roubles, and some of the costs I give below are the $ equivalent, using the current exchange rate (31 roubles = $1).
Nightlife - this deserves its own section. I could not go out every night but still I visited a few places.

Boom-Boom-Room/Bazaar - accross the street from the World Trade Center where my hotel was. Gorgeous girls but I had no chance. In the parking lot a late model Mercedes or BMW seems the minimum standard. Ballers roll in Bentleys, Maseratis, Range Rovers. I had a cocktail ($15) and bailed. This was on a weeknight and not too many people were there. I walked by it on Friday night around 2-3am and parked cars were 3-4 rows deep. None of these cars cost less than $100k. So if you want to go, just go for the eye candy and to fantasize what it's like being rich and banging models.

Bourbon Street Bar - a small hole-in-the-wall place close to Metro Stop Lubyanka that I randomly walked into my first night out in Moscow. Small but had some good-looking girls. I had a beer ($8) and talked to a couple of girls who were very friendly and gave me some tips on what to visit. Next door is:

Propaganda - this is a dance club next door to the bar above, but it was kind of empty on the night I visited (a working day). No cover, but they told me on Friday and Saturday it gets a crowd and there is a cover.

Real McCoy - next to Barikadnaya Metro Station, in one of the Stalin Skyscapers. Kind of trashy, but still gets some good-looking girls. I tried to pick up a couple but did not get much traction besides small talk. A beer was around $7. It emptied out around 12:30 - everyone seemed to want to catch the last metro train at 1am, as this was on a working day.

Papa's Place - from Metro Lubyanka take Myasnitskaya St. and walk 5 minutes to a bar named "Johnnie" - the night club is in its basement. Had a decent crowd, I had a couple of beers ($8) but did not get further than talking with girls, so I decided to call it a night and catch the last Metro train before 1am.

Kalina Bar - this is a lounge on the top floor of Lotte Plaza on Novoy Arbat Blvd. Gorgeous girls, gorgeous interior, gorgeous views. I went early in the evening on Friday and there was no cover, but later on there may be. A Mojito was almost $20. Take a date there to wow her, because the girls that were there seemed to be with company already.

Metelitsa Club - this is a nightclub on Novoy Arbat Blvd that I probably liked best. Well decorated interior but without the flashiness and the bottle service that usually go with it. There was no cover either, and this on Friday. They only charge cover for special events. A Heineken was around $10. Many girls, and pretty too. Good layout for pickup - one large room with two bars at either end, dance floor in the middle, and couches and quiter areas near the entrance.
However, no bang for me here, either. It seemed that most girls here want the guy to take their number, then ask them out on a date or two, and only then bang. Most of my Russian notches so far have been on the beach, where obviously the girls have a different agenda - get wasted, party, get fucked. In Moscow it seemed different. I decided not to pursue phone numbers because of logistics, lack of time for arranging dates, being tired, and on disposal if my boss wanted me to update tomorrow's presentation at short notice. I just did not want to deal with the hassle of numbers and dates.
Same night bangs could have probably happened, but with the kind of girls that would leave you thinking about all the other hotter ones that you saw that night. So with them the problem is lack of motivation, there really are so many beautiful girls walking around that it's hard to settle for a mediocre one. I guess you could just
do it for the notch if you wanted to, but I didn't feel like it because I already have an ample number of Russian notches.
In conclusion, this is definitely not your industrial shithole town but a world-class city which is very enjoyable to visit. I am not covering the cultural and historic places to visit but rest assured that if this is your thing you will not be disappointed either.
Finally, I am posting a few pics that I made with my phone of the nightclubs guide that was left in my hotel room - I visited a few of them and found the descriptions to be accurate, so I don't doubt it for the others, too.
