I think a lot of people have this notion that being gringo in Brazil (And probably the rest of South America) makes it much easier for you to get laid. Most Brazilian guys will tell you the same. It is not true at all though. First of all, being gringo only limits your pick ups to English speaking women unless you know Portuguese. If you don't know Portuguese and are traveling here, you should learn. There are A LOT of gorgeous girls that don't speak English and the ones who don't probably aren't as stuck up in general because it's usually the richer girls who know English. There were also times I feel like I got shut down because I was a gringo. I know a lot of girlfriends in the states that will basically shut a guy down if he is foreign (with the exception of guys from English speaking countries for some reason). What do the rest of you think that have traveled to Brazil? I'm not saying it's super hard, but definitely harder than the states to get the lay, and definitely a lot harder than all the Brazilian guys say ("Dude, just walk in the club and say, 'Hi I'm gringo, kiss me.") Getting kisses isn't very hard, but getting lays can be much more dificult than the states IMO.

Sometimes it helps....sometimes it hurts....just gotta keep approaching until you find one that likes you.....i had brazilian girls shoot me down fast and other ones that took me home fast ....it just depends on the girl....but one thing is true......There is sort of a misconception that if your a "gringo" you will have brazilian girls just throwing themselves at you.....its not that easy.....in fact its probably easier to get laid in the USA. Brazilian girls are so much hotter though ......just gotta get your vibe right and find your niche.

Being a gringo is only an advantage if u manage it well. It's an opportunity to get attention of them for being something different, and trust me, we want something different. Otherwise, u are just a stupid gringo drooling while watches the girls dancing (anything, we just rock in that area. LOL).

Couldn't agree with you more Giovonny. I've been to Colombia, Argentina and now I've lived in Brazil for 6 months this year. Thankfully, I've been able to bang some chicks in all 3 countries, but not without a lot of trial and error. I spoke Spanish very well before I went to Arg/Col, and I've used that as a base to learn decent Portuguese in a short amount of time. This always gets surprising smiles, I suppose they like that you've made some effort to learn part of their culture.

What I'd like to add is that 'where' you go makes a big difference too. 2 examples:

(1) It's well known in Sao Paulo that this pub called O'Malley's attracts girls who want to meet gringos. So if you're looking for some quick action you could head there; leave the approach anxiety at the door. I pulled a girl out of there easy and banged her a few days later. Supposedly some of the girls that go there are hookers, but that wasn't my experience. I'm sure there's plenty of bars like that in South America.

(2) If you're only traveling in Rio, SP, Recife, Salvador or Floripa, you're treading ground that countless gringos have before you, we're not as much of a novelty there. But try to venture out a little bit. I went to Porto Alegre to visit some friends, and I ended up going out in a few suburbs. One night I was in Canoas, the other night in Novo Hamburgo. Did very well both nights, ended up taking a chick to a motel straight from one of the bars. The girls there were so fascinated to be in my presence, you would've thought I just stepped off a spaceship. Priceless.

P.S. I've also gotten tail here when girls knew it was my last (or 2nd to last) night in town. Don't forget to play that card.

I do think the gringo novelty does work in some places aka Colombia (Bogota), Peru and Argentina to lesser extent. The people were genuinely curious as where you are from, etc.

Brazil, for the most part, is like another planet, and considers itself as such. It's the only country where you're considered a gringo if you're from OUTSIDE of Brazil. Portuguese, mexicans, spanish, etc are all gringos. Mexicans, who invented the word, are considered gringos here. That shows how much Brazilians regard foreigners.

The other big issue for gringos in Brazil is the backlash of girls who think foreigners come only here for prostitutes. Many times where I've been aggressive some girls would say 'I'm not a prostitute, I'm not a hooker, etc.' So there's a bit of that social conditioning against gringos, that Brazilian males don't really face.

So, Brazil is not the easiest place in general and being a gringo doesn't have many advantages.

I've got to disagree with this. I feel like I've gotten status overall from being gringo in SA. The amount of status varies depending on the situation and the city, but I don't believe I ever got negative status.

I think this has to do with how you carry yourself. When I travel I take my best clothes with me, I'm always looking my best (showered, shaven, hair done, cologne, etc), and I've got a fun, excited, adventure-seeking vibe going.

I think if you're seen as a cool, attractive guy, then being foreign is an additional plus. Gmanifesto, you're always dressed to impress. Can you comment on whether or not you get extra status in SA for being gringo?

There's a lot of retarded gringos that don't know anything and unless you prove otherwise you can get put in that category because of past experiences they've had with Americans. I was once talking to a girl from Switzerland in Argentina and I asked her if she spoke Romansh which is one of their 4 national languages. She was really impressed that I knew that and said that she said most Americans don't know shit about other countries.

Unfortunately I had pretty bad game at the time and I didn't get anywhere.... but hey thats not the point!

I mean, here u talk about the game all the time, right? this game i would call " the new guy game´", u should take advantage of being sth that the girls has never seen before, such as a different approaching (no brazillian game), and the fact that u hv been into places and saw thinow gs that may interest the girls who has never been even in another state. When I meet a foreign girl here in the US, if she is HOT, her foreignness is a plus.
If she is UGLY, her foreignness is irrelevant, and even a negative point.

For example, a thick accent on a HOT girl is cute, even if it makes her hard to understand, and I enjoy teasing her about it in a flirty way. If she is UGLY, the accent just becomes an annoyance.

I think the same thing applies to Gringos abroad. Your foreignness will amplify your attractiveness or unattractiveness.

Alright, I'll say that in some cases being a gringo can have it's advantages, especially if you know Portuguese and you are in Brazil. People want to know how the fuck you know Portuguese. Also, it depends on the girl. I think some girls are into gringos for sure. Just like I'm into foreign girls. If I meet a Brazilian girl in the states, I usually think she is +1 hotter. But I have friends that don't like foreign girls and think they're accents are horrible. For them, those girls might be -1 hotter. I also agree that you need to get away from Rio, Floripa, etc.

Women are women, and they are all attracted to the same thing the world over. Looks, money in your pocket, dominance, social ability.

If you dont speak the local language with any real fluency, you are relegated to looks and money alone really. You cant game women when you cant communicate, and if you cant communicate you cant show social dominance. So if you are an average looking guy with an average sized wallet, you are not going to be banging women left and right simply because you are a foreigner. Why men seem to think that being a foreigner alone is enough I just cant quite understand.

The reason why foreigners score is because you have some status. You are a little different, you are interesting and you are a novelty. It gives you a base on which you can build some kind of rapport. Also, the fact that you can travel means that you have money. An average middle class American is considered quite wealthy in South America. Make no mistake though, a lot of them are traditional women who are not going to fuck easy. Being a slut is a death knell for them.

My Portuguese is good enough to talk all night, but I definitely feel I can't express myself the way I'd like to. My Portuguese is obviously somewhat decent though if I picked up that girl I was with the other night. It is tough though sometimes man. I totally agree about the guys being more intrigued than the girls. It's ridiculous. I wish the girls were that easy to intrigue. Every guy that hears me talk is like, "Man, where are you from?" Then they try to talk my ear off and introduce me to their friends. Your patterns of wealthy are higher than ours and different. Here not everyone can afford an Ipod or Iphone (700 and 1000 reais each). If u only show off your money, u will only spend more money than u need and attract gringo chasers, instead of attract girls who want something exotic (in this point, the "new guy game") and a nice story to tell the girlfriends.
