Anyone know anything about Cameras?
Sony α380

http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stor...1644637896

Was thinking of hooking one of these.

Anyone know if it is a good camera for a beginner?

Basically I want to take pictures of random crap and girls.

If all you need is a camera to take snapshots of girls and random stuff, you don't need a DSLR. Kinda like buying a Porsche just to go to get back and forth to the supermarket. Save the DSLR shots for artsy stuff that would go in a gallery or National Geographic. The best compact point and shoot camera on the market is the Canon S90. If you want something slightly bigger and maybe a bit more featured, the Canon G11 is awesome too. I'd stay away from DSLRs unless you have a true need for one, like if you can explain what F-stops are and how you use them to get narrow depth of field. If you have no idea about any of that stuff, just get a high end yet compact point and shoot like the S90. Plus it's easier to throw in pocket and bust out in the club and take a spontaneous shot with some girls than some huge brick of a camera with different lenses and shit.

speakeasy,

I hear you.

I am kind of looking at this as something to grow into.

Also for the "prop" factor for swooping girls.

Plus, I have a good friend who works at Sony corporate and get get a lights out deal.

I just want to make sure I am not getting something super wack.

I have the Canon s80, the predecessor of the s90. It takes very good pictures, has full manual controls, yet is discreet enough to fit into a pocket which makes it great for travel in countries where you don't want to be seen carrying too much bling in public.

I also want to get a nice DSLR eventually for taking better pics than I can take with my s80. So I think having 2 cameras is a good idea. One for convenience and then a second one that's really nice. I may even pick up an ultra slim that can fit in the front shirt pocket.

But anyway, you can't go wrong with the s90, that thing won't be super wack. I guarantee you. It'll be idea for a compact travel camera that gives the perfect balance between image quality/advance settings and discreetness.

RE: Anyone know anything about Cameras?
I know girls love them! They love a guy who is "on camera"..... they love being in front of a camera and they love holding one. I am seriously considering following G's advice and becoming a photographer. Camera game is a nice angle.....75 percent of the girls i talk to are down to make a "homemade movie". Last week a girl told me that she had just downloaded the new "imovie" ...then she kinda giggled....

RE: Anyone know anything about Cameras?
Even pro photographers I know have a compact camera, like a Canon Powershot
for everyday use. They take great photos... I'd look at the Powershot SD series.
They have built-in image stabilization so they work well in lower light situations, without having to use a flash (which can be pretty annoying, particularly if you want to be discreet).

These cameras aren't that expensive and they're good to have anyway even if you eventually get a DSLR. DSLR's are too much camera for most situations. They're bulky to travel with, and then you also have to worry about attracting the wrong kind of attention/getting it stolen.

If you do want to go that route anyway, look at the Canon Rebel DSLR series (i think there is one called the "G" of course). I think Canons are better cameras than Sonys.. as it's their specialty.. They make better lenses and that's what a good camera ultimately comes down to (at least in the pre-dig. era). Which is not to say the sony is a bad camera. I'm sure they're good.

So, I'd say: Get a Canon Powershot and eventually a Canon DSLR as well

As for prop factor, if the girls are savvy at all, they'll know that a real photographer wouldn't use the s90. In that case you're talking about a high-end Canon for like $5k.

I roll with a Canon Ixus 100. It's a great camera.

Takes HD quality video too. Important for recording your home made porn.
