I could see it as good supplemental income though.

The real answer to this isn't that satisfying. You need to do the same thing as you do offline: own valuable stuff. The two most valuable things you can own online are a buying audience or useful technology/software.

Most guys I know who've made real money on the webs can code some wicked applications. The rest are marketers who've built great audiences. Most of the successful 'online' marketers I've met cultivated their key relationships offline, and have a lot in common with what you would expect successful business guys to operate and network.

The ABSOLUTE best way to make money online is get a bunch of friends who make money online. Eventually you'll learn form them or get opportunities in their businesses. If you can focus on one particular skill set that you can learn very fast that'll help you get an audience with successful online biz guys. If you are non technical, a great skill set would be conversion optimization (check out A/B tests.com) a specific SEO approach, like grey hat link building, or if you are crazy, become an adwords guru. The world needs them.

RE: Making money Online
One of the best, easiest and fastest ways I have personally found to build a solid, legit and lucrative business online has been being an affiliate for high end products/services or memberships. No need to spend/invest time to build/create a product/service, no need to create sites, it's all provided by the company. All you do is drive traffic to your site. Make sure the product is solid, something that you yourself will use and love it, that provides awesome value to the customers and that the company is solid, pays on time and you'll be set. Don't waste your time with clickbank and other low end products/ebooks that pay peanuts (in the 10-50 bucks/sale) and instead look for products/services that pay at least 500 to a 1000 per sale. I've learned the hard way that it takes the same amount of effort, money to sell a crappy 20 bucks ebook than it does a 3k membership. You'd still have to advertise, spend the money/time for that, so why would you do that for something that would pay you only peanuts as opposed to life enhancing and life changing amounts?

Say your goal is to make $3k/month, (which is very realistic with the right prdouct/company), ask yourself, how many ebooks or low end products that make you 20 bucks per sale would it take to reach that amount? And how many high end products/memberships that pay you 1k/sale would it take to reach that same amount? IMO, It's a lot easier to sell 3 memberships at 3k a pop than 150 ebooks. Unless you have a massive email list, then the ebook sale would be easier, but when starting out, with no list, no contacts, going the high end product/services or membership is what I'd suggest.

This is what I have been doing for the past 3 years, but seriously since last summer and things are doing well. Long story short, it's the reason I've been J.O.B. free for the past 2 years and been able to travel at will anywhere, anytime I want and live the location independent lifestyle that I have always dreamt about. It's growing very nicely and steadily, made 3 sales ($3K) in the past 3 days alone and on my way to 6 figures this year. Banana

While there are a ton of crappy if not downright scammy stuff out there, there are some absolute gems too. Do your due diligence carefully and once you do find something like that, treat it as a real business and not like a hobby. Also, since this is a real business, you'd need some starting capital (usually in the 3-5k), but if you pick carefully and chose a solid product, a solid company, and you treat it as a real business, then you can make some good money online to get you to the promised land of location independent lifestyle.

How about online work for the financial industry? Banking and the likes. Some jobs could be done with a computer and a telephone, I imagine. Anybody got leads on this?

If you need stability and long term income try Network marketing, if you need money right now start affiliate marketing.

I've made money online in the past but it always seems to dry up eventually no matter how good it all starts out, anyone know any good money makers at the moment? Not affiliate marketing, SEO or selling e-book type stuff as that's not something I know anything about or care to learn about. Any info you have I'd appreciate, can trade info or talk about in PM if can't be posted publicly.

RE: Making money Online
Surveys pay too little to be worth it, half the time you spend 10mins answering a load of questions just to be told you're not eligible for that particular survey. If you do complete one you might get 25p-£1 for about 20mins work. I was doing them for a while but got bored long before ever making any money, managed to get a £10 gift voucher from one.

I'm looking for something to make me a few hundred £ a month, just a little sideline to keep my bank balance topped up whilst travelling. I know there are ways out there as I've found methods before, they just aren't sustainable sadly.

To make money from blogs I think it would take at least a year to build up a following and be even close to making cash from it. You need to be good at writing and have something people want to read in the first place.

RE: Making money Online
I would say blackhat activities pay decent in that quick cash need now kind of way, depending on how risky the product is (can often be bigger payouts, but you're hedging your bets on shitty traffic and hoping you get paid out even if you mix in a little quality). And you also need to invest in resources to cover your tracks and to keep in the game with all of the constantly changing roadblocks you encounter along the way of what once was an easier method. And any whitehat activities take longer investments in money and time for a while, but they can often provide you with a nice little income after the long haul with less and less time spent invested in maintaining them as months go by.

I think you're not really going to make any money you want to be making unless you are providing something people want or need or you create a new product of your own. I'd like to create a product of my own instead of trying to copy other methods or creating rehashed bs for retards who fall for it.

RE: Making money Online
Anyone noticed that the paid surveys comment is from a spammer?

If you are just looking to make some side cash with a few hours of effort a week, your options are slim.

I can't say if it would still work now, but my first websites with adsense on them made about $1000 a month. Once they were up, and all of the content was written, they didn't really take any effort and I reinvested my time elsewhere.

Here is a basic outline of the business model and whats required -

First, you need a topic that has an expensive ad market or lots of search traffic. Lots of search traffic: tattoos, expensive ad market: auto insurance. You will be screw this up if you pick a cheap ad market with little search traffic because even by being #1 you'll make hardly anything.

A topic like auto insurance, you could make $300-$1000 per thousand page views depending on the traffic quality and keyword relevance. CPMs in the hundreds of dollars are your target, because its not a stretch to get a few thousand visitors a month from google. Something like tattoos has CPMs more along the lines of $1; that means you need to get 500,000 quality pageviews to your site to make $500.

Second, you need a search engine friendly site. Wordpress with a few modifications is more than adequate. My most authoritative site was just run on wordpress. Search engine friendly means you urls read like this: site.com/keyword.htm. A blind person should be able to use it.

Third, you need to start writing keyword targeted articles. Demand Media's eHow and other sites assign topics to their writers solely based on the search queries. If you are already an expert at the topic and can write this is easy. Otherwise you may have months of writing ahead of you.

Fourth, you need to start getting other people to link to your site. This is actually the most difficult part.

You can learn all of the details about this stuff primarily by researching SEO and link building.

That is how I would tell someone to make money online, not how to get rich.

Ok, so how would you tell someone if they sought riches, rather then merely making 'money online'? Smile

for the sites generating revenue via adsense, what is the typical page and unique views you experience per month? How many sites do you have concurrently that earn this type of revenue?

The honest answer, if you want to be rich: figure it the fuck out yourself. Once you have your on company you have to figure out things every day and there will not be a single person on earth with an answer for you. If someone can't figure out how to get to that point on their own, when they get there they won't be able to run their own show.

Typical page and unique views is like asking the typical price and fluctuation of a stock in the stock market on a given month. There is no answer because nothing is typical.

The original sites that made $1000 a month are mostly dead, they'll earn may be $100 altogether now each month.

I own some much more complex websites now, one earns $5000 a month and two earn about $30,000 a month each from adsense. That doesn't mean much because the fixed & variable expenses are substantial (a shitload on advertising, 5 employees, servers, misc service providers, and so on.) Off the top of my head that adsense revenue would barely even cover the expenses. Most of the revenue comes from direct deals with advertisers now of days.

When I started out building my own sites it was a ton of work and it was very stressful. It took a year for me to break even, and I lived on a few hundred dollars a month on my own through year two. This isn't a question of is it possible or not but rather how much effort and pain you will put in to it.

Different then what I was talking about with Adsense, but I think some of you guys will find this useful. I highly recommend reading it if you are interested in some sort of mental starting point to be headed in the right direction: http://www.fourhourworkweek.com/blog/201...#more-6223

Disagree. It's easier than ever. Tools are cheaper for monitization (like payment processing, membership software, paywall software, mail list software etc) and there are tons of underserved markets even by basic ad sites, let alone an authority site that authors are tossing their passion in to.

For example, build a high quality list of qualified buyers/sellers of a certain type of online business. I'd pay 20 bucks a month to receive that newsletter. That's just the first product. Endless services you could tack on. Your blog could feature entrepreneurs that have those types of businesses (for the backlinks or exposure) then your mailing list (paid) features the ones that are selling or looking for JV partners in the industry.

ENDLESS opportunities. Time to make hay is now.
