Thai Airways
Anyone have any experience with them? I'm wondering whether it's worth the extra money. The alternatives are China Eastern, Royal Jordanian, and Air China, all of which I've read poor reviews for.

It's a flight from Dallas to Bangkok, or a flight from LAX to Bangkok since that looks to be cheaper.

RE: Thai Airways
I flew with Thai Airways a few times and each time it was a very pleasant experience. The staff are very nice, friendly and young good looking. The food is awesome, seats are comfortable. Yes it's not the cheapest option but if you've got the extra cash, go for it. Once you see the difference between Asian airlines and American ones, which is like night and day, you will never go back. I always avoid American carriers and don't mind paying extra and flying with a quality airline. As a rule of thumb, Asian and Middle Eastern airlines are the best in the world by a very large margin.

RE: Thai Airways
Thanks, looks like I'll be flying Virgin America(heard good things about them too) to LAX, then Thai from there. Sounds much better than dealing with American Airlines or some of the cheaper airlines.

Looks like only a 300 dollar difference, too.

RE: Thai Airways
I've flown with them in Economy, Business and their Boeing 77w First Class cabins which are among the 5 most luxurious seats in the air. They are among the better airlines in the world when it comes to in-flight service, comfort and amenities (soft/hard product as frequent flyers refer to it). They also have one of the world's best biz/first class lounges at BKK airport (repeatedly awarded by Skytrax which rates all airline companies) with a full complimentary spa. No matter what class you're flying with them you will likely enjoy it far more than any Western or middle-eastern company.

The times they can be a bit bumpy is when there's a cancellation or delay, they are very ineffective administrators and it can be frustrating to try to work out alternate flights with them. Thankfully they are part of The Star Alliance and their partners will usually be able to provide a safety net under those circumstances. If you're not a frequent flyer however your unlikely to hit those low percentages when something does go wrong.

so, enjoy.

VA is solid. Never flown Thai, but by all accounts it's excellent. Glad to hear you've avoided Air China. What a fucking disaster.

Though as a Westerner, I've dressed nicely, given a warm "Nihao!" to the women at the entrance and strolled right into their business lounge in Beijing without being asked to present my non first class boarding pass.
