How many wear or have considered wearing a boutonniere with your fly suit? Do you think having a fresh cut colorful boutonniere along with a pocket square could make some heads turn in a positive way?

You wold certainly be a modern novelty, as far as I know. However, I may stand to be quickly corrected by avid suit donners, such as G.

Formal fashion styles progress, with some styles being cyclical. For instance, a 3 piece suit may one year be in style and another year not. Colors and fabrics, obviously, tend to be cyclical with the season.

My point is that the boutonnière may have once been an acceptable style outside of wedding type affairs, but may never have cycled back around again to be 'in style' for nightlife party type formal wear. If thats the case, then you could certainly still wear one, but you might be bucking the modern fashion dogma. But then again, who gives a shit and who will really notice if you aren't completely conformist with modern formal fashion. If you like it, and it looks good, and you think it might help you pull, then wear it.

Again, I might stand to be corrected on weather or not it conforms with modern fashion.

Thanks for the reply. It may be a matter of doing something out of the norm to gain attention, if it is something you like. However, one always runs the risk of getting negative attention to. Some do say that any attention is better than no attention.

Interesting that you brought this up.

I know no one, and I mean no one (and many of my friends roll suited down) that I know that is younger that rolls these. And when I say "younger" I mean under 50 years old.

That being said, I know older cats bust it. One super well respected old-school G I know a little bit busts one everyday. Real flower. Fresh each day. With sick suits.

In closing, like Hydro said, "But then again, who gives a shit and who will really notice if you aren't completely conformist with modern formal fashion. "

Like my grandfather told me, "Fashion and trends is for the ladies, Style and class are for the men".

This move is Style and class.

Interesting, I was just thinking about wearing one on the regular, now that Spring has come to Paris.

The word itself is French, as was the idea, but even here in Paris I've seen no one wearing a boutonnière around. That's strange given the fact people here sometimes dress like medieval ladies or 17th centuries gentlemen.

I once worked near the Champs Elysées and they have beautiful gardens there. I picked a fresh flower and pin it to my lapel (my custom suit was designed to have a functioning lapel hole). My female boss loved it and complimented me on it immediately.

IMO it gives a lot of style and class, but you will stand out in very unique way. If you have to rock it better have the right attitude.

Not sure how a young guy like me would pull that off, but I'm giving it a try. Will report back. Just hope they don't think I'm gay or Italian....

I won't even wear matching suit jackets and pants 95% of the time, because it's overdressed, even though I suit up virtually every day.

I wouldn't even bother trying to pull of putting flowers on my clothing.

Interesting idea.

I have a diamonte encrusted poppy that I wear at night during Armistice; it always gets lots and lots of attention, always positive.
