I've been a longtime lurker here, but a commenter in the manosphere for years. From time to time I share old pickup techniques in my comments, so I thought I'd make one of them first post here.

(I've read Strauss, Mystery's book, and tons of blogs and have never seen this idea written about. If someone else came up with it, I apologize in advance.)

This is an idea I unwittingly discovered. I'm calling "the pre-pickup pickup." What you do is get to whichever club or concert (or wherever) you're going to and get there early. Find the hottest girl(s) who you assume will be on their way in. Ask a TOTALLY INANE question. Then say thanks and walk away. When you see her later in the club, you have an opening because you're already familiar and everyone else is a stranger.

Might sound lame or like a take-off on Strauss' "fake time limit" idea, so I'll give an example of how it worked IRL for me:

In Washington DC, before a concert of old British Invasion acts (don't ask) my friends and I were having dinner at a cafe and I spied the hottest woman I'd ever seen strolling by wearing in a semi-sheer short beige dress. I excused myself and arranged it so I passed her on a corner. I assumed by the way she was dressed she was going to the concert, but froze when I came close to her so I just said, "Excuse me, do you have the time?" She did. I said "thanks." End of part one.

Scroll forward an hour and we're at the concert. I was right -- she was there and with a friend. I smile at her and she responds in a British accent: "You're the young gentleman who asked me for the time." Turned out she was 30, a part-time model, and waaaaaaay out of my college boy league. But the friend she met up with kept wanting to talk to guys she had no interest in. That left me. So...she basically latched onto me to the complete bewilderment of my friends, all of whom were older, not to mention taller and better looking.

It helped that at the time I was reasonably well read and could carry on a decent convo (you have to have a good follow up). After the concert, I got a number and eventually lots of experience with and older woman I probably had no business being with. I'm convinced that had I just cold approached her at the concert she'd have snubbed me like she did the other guys who tried talking to her before and after the show (the "whoa, hot dress" line did not work.)

I assume this method would work anywhere: outside a supermarket, church, a mall. But I think it works best for a club or concert where most everyone is a stranger, except you and her because of one sentence.

Good stuff. I can see this working.

You have already shown your social proof to her. So when she sees you another time she knows you aren't a "creep", because you asked a totally normal question to her earlier.

I like this mate, some of us have probably done this without even realising it. Like just being courteous and fly to some girl serving you at the coffee shop, then hitting on her at a bar later on that evening without even realising you'd seen her earlier, she probably remembers you though for the way you called her 'darling' 'love' 'missy'

Yup you're absolutely right it's smart to just chat up girls to get them familiar with you at first.

I do the same thing.. in the street where I walk by the girls on the same way as me, maybe they go in the same venue / in front of clubs/bars where people hang out and smoke / in the first 1-2 hours inside the club since nothing can really happen then. Sometimes it's short 20sec chit chat sometimes it lasts longer but either way they're more open to you later.

Basically night out is a marathon and the first part it's "me" time.

A shrewd technique -- a variation on Roosh's "elderly opening" but time shifted.

Remember, females have two polar points in their consciousness. At the one pole is the desire for safety, security, normalcy. On the other pole is the desire for thrills, drama, intensity -- what they call "romance" but which is really about being gamed.

You have to make both happen in their heads.

I do this in grocery stores fairly often. I'll 'accidentally' bump into her, or ask her where the spices are at, then strategically happen to meet her again in the meat section or wherever. Then it's very natural to open her and have a conversation, because she 'already knows me.' Zero bitch shield, and the whole thing comes off as serendipitous. I usually reopen with a cheerful smile and a very slightly sarcastic "Long time no see!" and then just segue into day bang-style ramble about the steaks we're both looking at.

Women fantasize about this sort of thing. Meet a guy once and it's a random encounter, which may or may not go anywhere. She's more guarded: "Why is this guy talking to me?" Meet them again and it's "fate." They already feel a connection, so as long as you can hold up your end by being an engaging conversationalist and running good game, they can't resist talking with you for a little while, which increases the likelihood they'll drop digits.

Yeah, I have written about this move before, I have been using it for years:

The Del Mar Racetrack: Swooping The Top Tier Girls

This move works very well in "closed" environments ie weddings, Charity events, art gallery events, The Racetrack etc.

Great write-up. It took years for me to actually become cognizant of what I'd done with that move. At the time, it felt like a failed attempt followed by a successful one and I didn't connect the dots...

I like it. I do this alot. Especially, in grocery stores.

I call it "engaging and re-engaging"

I also like to "warm up" cold approaches by letting them hear the sound of my voice.

Me too. My friends and I always do that.

We always take credit for "inventing" moves. I do it on here all the time too and have rubbed some people the wrong way, so to speak.

One of my favorites was taking credit for: "Slap me five, up high, down low, too slow" when I was a young pup.

Set it up so you are going opposite directions down the grocery isles. Gives you another chance to talk every isle. Then once it's solid and you have the number move on Pretty basic move but thought I would add it in. G I am going to have to go through your blog with a fine comb.

I like to use this day gaming the local public library. Sit on the front steps with the morning paper and say hello or good morning when they come in, then when they walk out with books in hand, ask them if they got anything good. Keep it very friendly and conversational. If they want to engage you, they will, and in my experience, most do. After that, it's up to you to carry it into something more concrete. This works best when there is good foot traffic so you can have a lot of approaches and there are good opportunities for venue changes to places like art galleries, coffee or ice cream shops, etc.

My old boxing coach claimed that he invented "gay bashing". If you guys know what that is..

My friends and I invented our own language growing up. Sort of like our own Hawaiian "pigeon". If you know what that is..

I invented a few things but I can't think of them right now..?

I think that the reason this works is the same reason why it's a lot easier to pickup a stripper when while she's not on the job: In a situation where there are tons of sausages coming at a girl at the same time, she has to put a bitch shields to keep them away. You got to her when she wasn't in bitch mode.

It's the same thing with daygaming girls on the street: put them in a club environment and they get much bitchier because of all the expectations floating around the room.
