I have been turning approaches into a self amusement act as of late, and it's been giving me pretty good results.

My comical opener has been me cutting words (not fully pronouncing them) off before I'm finishing say them with a stern face and putting my hand out to shake their hand.

Me: "He... Ho.. Ar... Yo..." (Hey how are you?)
Her: "What?"

I look almost weirded out that she doesn't understand, but usually the girl grabs my hand and I continue to hold on to it.

Me: "Ni... To... Me... Yo..." (Nice To Meet You.)

Followed by a self amused smile.

Her: "Ummm"

Me: "You're weird."

It's gotten laughs every time and the girl is generally receptive to my initially weird approach.
