Well, maybe not a billionaire, but close enough.

According to the guy:

1. He'd trade every cent he has to be a young man in his 20s again.

2. If he had to do it all over again, he'd work like mad until 35, put $30 million in the bank, stop working, and pursue his passions.

3. Money doesn't buy happiness (his ultra net worth peers are apparently a miserable bunch), but it does wonders for your sex life.

4. He doesn't know exactly how much money he has. Apparently, if you know, you're not really rich.

I am doing the opposite: I party,travel, gaining life experience, get laid until I hit 40. Then it's all work,money, family possibly.
I needed a lay at 20! At 35..it's just nice, I could be just fine without it.
What kind of passions can you pursue at 35?..You can't be an athlete...or anything that requires young body.

In theory you could retire at 35 and then write novels, photograph butterflies in the Amazon or whatever. In reality, if you are a driven person who has achieved wealth by 35, your brain will be wired for that kind of activity and it will be extremely hard to change your focus.

As for being an athlete, people can play sports throughout all types of ages. I am in my 40.s and enjoy many sports. I know, shocking how my body can still perform adequately.

It isn't like most people are performing at pro levels.

I swear, I get a lot of laughs at some of the stuff you young-uns say.

No savings or work experience before 40 so you can do things requiring a professional athlete's level of fitness (going to the gym?). What could go wrong?

I honestly don't see any down side. I am not a young one anymore, let's say I am 40 ( don't want to leave too much information about myself on the internet).
I got tons of stories to remember, I got laid a ton, I traveled internationally twice a year for 20 years, I spent all the money I made and I got into some serious debt with credit cards. But I had fun!
I never worked full time or sometimes I was traveling for months and months. I kept in shape and worked out regularly. I hung out with young crowd and was getting young pussy...like 18-21 young.
So now I am let's say 40. I went to college and I can use that degree to find a job. I have no savings, but in a year I will save maybe 10-15k because I am single and have no wife/kids and still drive a crappy car and rent.
I don't have that much energy now, I don't need to constantly go out a get laid. In fact I enjoy a quite evening by myself more often.
Eventually I will save enough money for retirement plus social security. So that's the plan. Any flaws in it ?

First of all, why do you think you will easily get a job just because you have a degree? I am assuming you got your degree at the same age as most people.

So you get a degree and head off into the world fucking around only to come back when your 40. You think employers will hire a 40 year old dude who happens to have been out of college for 15 years and still has no experience.

That screams unreliable to an employer.

Skip school if this is your plan. No need to waste your time.

Look, part of the reason the 30's, 40's, and 50's are awesome is due to figuring life out and becoming established.

I honestly don't understand the logic. I worked my ass off and still get laid a ton. I traveled, lived in other countries and across America because of work. I built up my own successful company that really has just taken off (6 years of work) in a major way.

You guys make it sound like you can't get laid unless you focus on getting laid 24/7.

I blame the smart phones and facebook.

Exactly. I went all around the world and made money as part of my work. Just backpacking it around sounds damn boring in addition to being financial/professional suicide but to each his own.

Worldwidetraveler hit the nail on the head. Getting laid shouldn't be the focus, you should just know what you have to do to facilitate it as easily as possible while living your life.

To be fair, IMO the only differences that really matter for starting a career at 40 compared to 21 are:

Your physical health/energy
Your cognitive sharpness
Your levels of savings/debt


You probably COULD start a career at 40 if you'd bummed around all your youth. Ultimately, people care about what you can do for them, and if you seriously do suddenly decide to build marketable skills at 40 then there are definitely careers where you can hand-wave your past years away or frame them well. People do completely change careers in their 40s, so you wouldn't be the only person starting at the bottom. You could always just say you woke up from a coma, lol.

The problem I see with his plan is that it's probably the tip of a larger problem. If you're not willing to work now, what makes you think you will be when you're 40? Realistically, you will be the same person, but you'll learn slower, have less physical and mental energy and more debt.

I dont think he realises the massive skillbuilding you need to do AFTER college just to even be competitive. Starting that when you're 40 is really shooting yourself in the foot.

To Wayout: If you're really going to do that, at least learn things while you go. Read masses of practical books on business, networking, people skills, marketing, sales, etc. Learn a language every year or two. Learn a useful freelance skill you can do while you travel - writing, translating, programming, tutoring... something skill-based.

That way at least you'll be putting "money in the bank" skillwise. Going for a job interview at 40 speaking 5-8 languages and with years of freelancing under your belt sounds a LOT better than having a distinguished history of bar/cafe jobs and beach-bumming, lol.
