I'm looking at moving on from Playa Del Carmen after having lived here for 2 years and want to work out my next move.

I like to stay in 1 location for an extended period of time (6mth minimum) as opposed to bouncing around from spot to spot and Peru seems like a good option considering it is very easy to stay long term and is close to alot of other countries worth exploring.

For my next home base I am looking for the following

1) World Class surf I can hit everyday (advanced waves)
2) High Speed Reliable Internet
3) Easy access to women

At the moment I have the following 2 options within Peru based on the data I've read on here

1) Huanchaco, Peru (with trujillo being focus of nightlife)
2) Asia, Peru

Anyone with experience in these 2 areas? would they be suitable?

I prefer Huanchaco as it opens up surf spots like Chicama for trips when the swell turns on.

Money is not an issue and I am open to any ideas even if outside of Peru but my preference is South and Central America.

Any ideas or additional data on those areas I mentioned ?

I don't know if Peru would be the optimal place for this but whatever.

I don't know about Trujillo. Girls are average and I doubt there's a beach culture over there.

Asia is dead, and I mean completely DEAD offseason. It's actually depressing to go there in winter.

Anyways I'd recommend Mancora. Because it's basically a party town with lots of gringo and peruvian tourists just wanting to have a good time and party a lot. Beaches are nice and the waves are too. Also easy drug access, lots of new girls coming and leaving, and a vibrant beach culture. It's also in a nice spot in the country near to a lot of interesting places such as tumbes, ecuador, chicama, kuelap, etc.

was told from a friend that the surf in mancora is crowded with alot of kooks. Is that the case?

Will probably go and have a look either way as it seems like exploring the North of Peru will be the best option.

I really don't know. Probably yes. But I bet theres as much as solid people as kooks. And yeah it the most advisable thing to do would be to go there to party and surf for a few weeks to get the feeling of how are things going on and if you like it then stay.

cheers man. just had a closer look. lots of spots that would likely be uncrowded outside of the main area so looks like a good option with decent logistics.

Any other surfers got ideas for spots even if not in Peru?

I'd stay in Mexico but the crowds in the surf are pretty intolerable in spots like puerto escondido. Even the more remote spots on the west coast (pascuales, nexpa, the ranch, la ticla) can see 100+ guys out in the water on average days. Only good thing is that crowds tend to get smaller when the waves are 6-8 ft +

Huanchaco itself has a left point, but it's a mushburger. Chicama works 10 times a year - it needs a much more westerly swell than most storms will give it. The real wave in the area is Pacasmayo, which is worth shacking up in town for a few weeks for to hit. The other key spot, wave-wise, on the north coast is Lobitos and the surrounding breaks. You're not going to see anything you want to touch with your penis in either place. The waves are fairly crowded with Brazilians and Peruvians, who are just as bad at etiquette.

Mancora is the opposite: there will be a couple pretty girls, but the surf is next to worthless without a large NW swell to light up Cabo Blanco or, on the King Shit of Fuck Mountain macker swells, the point in town. Those times will be packed with pros. Any other time will be packed with kooks and pasty Brit kids getting pushed into their first waves.

If you really want to surf AND score in Peru, the best option is the Miraflores/Barranco/Chorrillos stretch in Lima. You can catch La Herradura for surf, drive the 45 min down to Punta Hermosa when La Herradura isn't working, and pick up girls in the M/B clubs.

One option is to go Central Coast. You'll end up at uncrowded desert pointbreaks. Downside: you might get robbed.

Peruvian girls on the whole are not cute. If you go there, your focus will be (1) surfing, (2) drinking, (3) cocaine, (4) pussy. It's the way it is.

Damn, this guy knows his shit. I'm not a big surfer, but I was hanging out with a bunch of surfers out in Lima and they basically said what you said as far as surf goes. A lot of them skip Mancora even though it seems to be a popular destination. And you're right about the girls. Peruvian girls were my last priority. Luckily I was staying at a hostel packed with a bunch of cute Chilean girls and a couple nice Brazilian girls as well. Punta Hermosa had great breaks the first day I went, but the second day they were pretty small, which would have been good for me since I'm just learning.

Sort of, with a couple caveats. One, Chorrillos has a reputation as a seedier, more dangerous part of town - which isn't really all that true in my experience, but it doesn't have the nightlife Barranco or Miraflores does. Two, there isn't anything all that near La Herradura. It's a naked headland around the way from the regatta clubs. You'd have to drive in no matter what. Net result: you'll be taking taxis to the clubs and the surf, and girls may balk at heading home with you. Not ideal.

yeah cool - so better setting up a base in barranco or miraflores then and cruising south for a surf. looks like its only 5 - 10km away to la herradura.

Yep. Plus it's not like LH is constantly breaking - it needs some juice to turn on.

One additional warning about the Lima coast: it's overcast all the time. If you're one of those folks that gets depressed without sunlight, or just doesn't like hanging out in mid 50s-mid 60s fog, it gets old fast.

Punta Hermosa, by the way, is dead. Nothing to do when the sun goes down except hang out with the others in your surf camp.
