I remember Spain (specifically Madrid) having flashier style than other cities in Europe. Never been to Scandinavia, but I heard they take it pretty far as well. Paris reminded me of a better dressed Manhattan. Similar tones with more flair.

@bojangles pretty similar here in ireland
and rugby/soccer/gaa jerseys
if you want to make a first impression here with your clothes, stay away from lumberjack shirts and sports jerseys

For a causal boot, I kinda like the Wolverine Montague:

Is there even a way to dress well without paying through the nose? Unfortunately I can't justify €200 or even €150 boots. Are there good alternatives for less than... say €80 (which is about US$100)?

For boots, these are actually on the cheaper end. I've never owned a pair of Wolverine's but from what I can tell, they are good quality and will last for years if you take care of them.. If you are looking to go much cheaper they will probably fall apart after a couple years...

Shoes for 50-100 dollars:
http://www.monarch.ua/collections/

I would not spend more than 100 usd on shoes. Most middle class girls will be fine with me wearing 60 or 70 dollar shoes. If she demmands Gucci..I don't need that type of girl

That's the things, I doubt those shoes have any brand name value to someone who isn't connected to men's fashion. I have a pair of H&M shoes which look very similar to the ones posted on the first page but in black, and that's the kind of thing I like.

My shoes often end up dirty or have drinks spilled on them all the time, so its good to buy a new pair every year or so. I had a pair of Timberlands which were very hardy, but by the time I was through with them they looked real scuffy and beaten up. If I can avoid that by buying new every year or so, great.

I think investing in a qaulity pair of shoes is important. Past few months I have tried to buy imitation leather shoes that were cheap (30 dollars). But they break so fast that i ended up having to buy new ones in a month or two (I walk a lot). It actaully will save me money if ai get a sturdy pait of real leather ones for 50-70 dollars and wear them for a year or two.

No. If you spend money on shoes every 1-2 years, then you are not saving money. Spend a little more, and your shoes will last a lifetime...

Remember if you buy decent shoes you can get them resoled for £30 every 6 months or so. I really like the look of old shoes with the leather all softened up but fresh soles, looks pukka and the lizard probably won't know why.

Most people don't take care of their shoes. Clean them up from time to time and try not step in nasty shit or let drinks spill on them. It goes a long way.

You resole your shoes every 6 months?? That seems kinda excessive...I thought the standard was every couple of years...depending on how hard you wear them of course..

Its interesting. I bought a quality pair of leather mocassins and the sole wore out. The guy at the shoe repair place said it was not possible to repair.

The leather was perfect condition, just the sole was bad. In Europe, you walk a lot more so the shoes lasted only 1 summer!

I need to try the resole method, maybe with a different type of shoe. It seems a lot cheaper than buying fake leather shoes which wear out after a month or so, but aren't even that cheap

You can't go wrong with Allen Edmonds. You can get a decent pair in the $200 -$300 range. They will last a lifetime if you take care of them...

So there is one more thing I wanted to add after thinking about it. If I am buying someting that is on the trendy side...or is a little less "timeless", such as Chukka boots, or these nice boat shoes:

I tend to buy a little cheaper...

I like wearing retro Jordan's or kanye esque ripoffs from aldo. Also rock nicer chucks - rarely wear dressier shoes w jeans bc I just like to portray youth/fun since I'm dating down so much

I think this is the answer I was looking for. Nicer chucks are popular with younger folk, I should give 'em a try.

What about boots? Might be good too.

Only ugly/worn or new stylish shoes get noticed by women. I've found chukkas to be in the latter right now. Loafers fall in the middle for me.

I never used to know anything about fashion and wasn't sure where to start. Now I'd say I'm relatively well dressed for the Midwest when I want to be.

I'd *highly* recommend MyHabit (an Amazon company) and JackThreads for staying up to date and getting really good deals on designer (MyHabit) or cheap stylish (Jack) clothes in the US. If nothing else, peruse one of their emails for a few minutes each month to make sure your style's in check. (if you don't get a signup bonus on your first purchase, pm me and I can refer you or something)
