RE: Berlin Kreuzberg - May 2013
a few observations :

- berlin is much more spread out than paris. you can't get very far by foot, people use bikes.
- population is also less dense. there were always available seats on the subway train. in some parts the city is mixed with the forest.
- it's impossible not to open if you're holding a map and carrying luggage. number closing is easy but the numbers I got did not pan out so far
- daygame is probably less optimal than in paris because of the less dense population. you chat up a girl, you warm up, and by the time you meet the next one you are cold again.
- generally I'm starting to think, the easier it is to open, the more likely the flake.
- city is much more affordable than paris. beer is 3 euros for half liter, in paris it's 9 euros
- berlin is the self-aware, ironic industrial shithole
- more blondes than in paris, less elegant, but quality is, on average, similar I would say

Just go down Oranienstraße to find some cool places

Other random ideas:

cool bar: "Tausend"
upscale bar: "Newton bar"
best clubs: "Ritter Butzke" "Berghain" "Spindler & Klatt"
best schnitzel in town: "Borcherts" and "Lutter and Wegener"
if the weather is really good: "Badeschiff"

And don´t go to the club "Felix"

Sorry, but I grew up in Berlin. Berlin females are prude little bitches (different than US girls but pretty bad). Nobody in high school had girlfriends, which gives you a sense of how the sexual scene (and this was back in the 1990s). I have trouble imagining that they even come close to French girls.

BUT, don't miss the Hasir Grill in Kreuzberg if you like Turkish food.

That was basically still "West-Berlin" shortly after the reunification of Germany ... a Berlin entirely different from what it is today, imho, being the party center of continental Europe according to many.

Nowdays you have the girls from Eastern Germany and all the alternative, supposedly lesbian/bi hipster chicks who, in reality, are all straigt and mostly dtf.

The girl from posh Berlin-Zehlendorf will be as stuck up, prude and sexually inhibited as the rest of Western Germany, of course.

RE: Berlin Kreuzberg - May 2013
so far I like that city. It has space, is very green, and is affordable. It looks like a much more comfortable place to live in than Paris. From what I've heard, the only problem in Berlin is to get a decent job, for that Paris is better. The Germans are friendly and helpful even though my German is rusty.

haven't noticed a hipster problem so far, probably have not been to the right place for that.

but Berlin is probably the closest thing to hipster paradise that you can imagine : everyone rides bicycles, it's cheap, it has a powerful history, the art world is more alive than anywhere else. in a way I wonder if the berliners should not thank the communists for making this city what it is today. by destroying the city center, it leaves room for new creation. by contrast, Paris is architecturally a dead city, a museum for chinese tourists.

We went to Tausend Bar, it's a little bit hard to find as there is no indication and it's right under the bridge. inside it's posh looking, however on a tuesday night it was almost empty. it's probably good on a friday or saturday. since it's a bit pricey, we didnt stay in tausend bar. oranenstrasse has a lot of bars, it' also a good place. on tuesday night, there were either foreign tourists or hookers in the street. Maybe we'll try Badeschiff and/or Ritter buzke tonight.

RE: Berlin Kreuzberg - May 2013
thursday was like an august day. So I went to badeschiff at around noon, and it was great! thanks for the recommendation. I think it's the kind of place where it's better to go during the week as it gets too crowded in the weekend. also there is a great picture to be taken there, with people in swimwear in the blue swimming pool, and the fernsehtur in the background (if you have a waterproof smartphone).
I had to leave thursday, which left me a bit frustrated. I'll make sure to setup more client meetings in berlin, and on fridays this time so I can stay the weekend!
