10-14 Days
A buddy and I are looking at possible destinations to tear up this summer.

10-14 days, travel times will be late June-early July or end August-early September.

Budget is not too modest, not too grand. I'm departing from California. He's never been there or Vegas in fact, and I was thinking of showing him around, but the US can get expensive (car rental + gas should add up to at least USD1200 if one wants to get around in a decent ride).

All suggestions appreciated. I am pretty sure we'd like to stay in the Northern Hemisphere.

A year from now you'll wish you started today

RE: 10-14 Days
That's not a whole lot of time. Depends how long you'd want to stay in each place. I would suggest Mexico, maybe down to Rosa Rita and Ensenada. Then go back north to AZ, hit up Phoenix area (Including Scottsdale). Then make it up to Colorado, hit up Telluride, Ouray, Aspen, and maybe the I-70 corridor. Then head through Utah, but don't chill in Utah, and hit up Vegas for a weekend. If your friend hasn't done Cali, spend one day in LA, 2 in OC, and maybe 1 or 2 in SD.

If you buy now, flights to San Jose, Costa Rica can be around $600-$800 during the summer.

Incredible rainforests
Beautiful beaches
Tons of wildlife species – monkeys and iguanas on the beach
Hostels as low as $8 a night (don’t be cheap)
Sexy Latinas, many of whom appear very down to fuck
Colombian hookers if you fail to bang

$800 round-trip flight
$280 = $20/night hostel for 14 days
$220 = food at about $15/day for 14 days
$700 = $50/day for 14 days in transportation and play money
______
$2000 if you’re in hostels
$2500 if you’re paying $50/night for hotel for 14 days

Note: I haven't been there yet, but plan on going either this year or the next.
