Bengals won today, 42-28 vs. Colts, we're still first in the AFC North @ 9-4. Fuck yeah!

I was actually afraid of this Panthers team, they are not so scary afterall Smile although I think we will probably still split with them.

2012 Bears had a phenomenally good defense. Offense blew.

2013 Bears have a great offense that features one of the best receiver tandems. Defense blows. Run defense is embarrassingly bad.

What a great game. Every Bears possession (except the final kneel) resulted in a score.

saw it on the condensesd game summary. Unbelievable...always thought it would be broken at altitude in Denver though.

That was a great day of football for sure. Love it in the snow - the Philly game was awesome it looked like there was a foot of snow on the field in between the lines.

Bleh.

The way it's going the NFL will be a touch-football league in 20 years with federally-mandated laws ensuring that women constitute at least 50% of the players. And any tackle or hit around the 'breast area' will be an automatic first down & 15-yard penalty with a 'targeting' ejection to boot!

RE: NFL thread
I was watching the Saints game and noticed a players picture. I saw his name and remembered it for some reason. Did a search and found out he went to the same middle school I went to in New Orleans.

Dude was my classmate haha. We were in a program together in school for the gifted and talented. All of our classes were together. 30 students were selected for this program. Maybe three of us were actually smart. New Orleans public school system is shitty.

Anyways dude was okay. We boxed once because they used to pick on me for being Belizean. He was slower than me too. I went to Karr the next year and he stayed at Walker. They actually won state his senior year. We used to call him drip lip haha. He signed with the Saints for 26M this year.

Fucking drip lip. Keenan Lewis is his name. Because we stayed together the whole year, I remember most of my classmates. Trying to hit him on FB today.

The cycle of disrespect can start with just an appetizer.

Quarterback debate in Chicago.

Start Jay Cutler or Josh McCown?

[Image: Josh-McCown-Jay-Cutler-Chicago-Bears-.jpg]

Josh McCown is putting up Elite numbers and looked like Joe Montana against the Cowboys. Cutler is the franchise QB. Who do you start? Go with the hot hand, or the more talented guy who is coming off an injury?

Don't tempt my imagination, I'm a die-hard Bears fan.

The defense in 2012 was phenomenal, one of the best in recent memory, according the metrics at Football Outsiders. Combined with this nasty good offensive line, the one-two punch of Marshall/Jeffrey, a great RB in Forte and a rejuvenated Cutler, it would be a scary good team. I would put that team over the Seahawks.

That being said, that is just a fantasy. Windows are short for any team (outside the QB position). Those years of leaning on the defense (2006, 2010 and 2012) are gone. Outside some FA luck or insanely good drafting next year, this defense will improve next year with injured players coming back but I think the door is closed on a dominant defense with this core of players.

McCown had one of the best games I have seen out of a QB this year. (An there have been some pretty epic QB performances)
I think it would be foolish to bench him after a game like that... Franchise QB coming back or not. Kind like when SF kept Colin Kaepernick in after Alex Smith was healthy and Kaepernick took them to the super bowl.

The best thing that could happen on Sunday is that Cutler starts, throws a couple interceptions, and doesn't get re-signed at the end of the season.

Bears have great fans and they've been desperate for a good quarterback since forever. Unfortunately, Jay's just not that good.

RE: NFL thread
Once a guy is labeled a backup, it's hard to shake it no matter how well he plays once he gets in. Teams will always be enamored of the physical skills of Jay Cutler, and since you pay guys like that a ton of money, you want him in there if he's healthy. While coaches want to go with the guy that's getting it done, there's almost always pressure from above him to consider other factors that coaches don't care about. They may also fear the fallout from Cutler if he loses his job - he hasn't always been the best teammate with the best attitude in his time in the league.

RE: NFL thread
Cutler is getting the start. It's the smart play because they have to decide at the end of the season what direction they are going to take with Cutler - i.e., give him a long-term deal or not. The next few games will give Cutler the opportunity to prove that he's worth a big contract, though McCown's play may ultimately reduce the dependence the Bears feel with respect to Cutler.

Franchise quarterbacks are hard to come by in the NFL, and when you think you might have one, you don't want to let him go. But for a borderline franchise QB like Cutler, you don't want to marry yourself to him unless you're sure he's the guy you can build a team around.

As for McCown looking spectacular last weekend . . . well, the 2013 Cowboys specialize in making QB's look great.

Cutler blows. The day he leads his team to a superbowl or gets even close is the day hell freezes over.

Honest question, has the guy even won a playoff game in his 7? years as a starter?

Cutler has a monster arm. And like Jeff George, it's kept him in the league way too long.

Brady and Brees have very average arms. But they throw tight spirals and are supremely accurate. That's what succeeds today, not being able to put it through a brick wall.

Hes got 1. When the Bears beat the Seahawks in 2010 to get to the NFC Championship. Then lost to the Packers in the NFC Championship when he teared his knee.

RE: NFL thread
From a game perspective, you have to go with McCown. Obviously getting it done and teammates clearly like and play well with him. That said, I can see why they're starting Cutler. The coach wants to win, but he also has other considerations. If he starts McCown and he flops, the coach looks like an idiot for going with the inexperienced backup. If Trestman starts Cutler and he flops, Trestman can argue that Cutler had the right pedigree. Same reason why managers will hire the Harvard guy with a 3.9 over 3.0 UIllinois, even though the latter seems like the better value-add. Always CYA. The focus on the loss stems from human nature. We naturally fear loss more than we desire gain.

Just one theory on why Cutler's getting the start. There are also post-season considerations as previously mentioned. Here's hoping he gets injured (not severely, I'm not a monster) so we can get McCown back in. Given his injury record, it's certainly possible.
