American Experience - Silicon Valley

Very fascinating historical documentary about the birth and evolution of Silicon Valley into the hub that it is today. I've been discussing SF and Silicon Valley with a lot of members of this forum lately.

I am strongly considering moving there with in the next year and staying there for a while.

The main issue is that after living in cheap Asian spots like a king for so long, it's gonna be rough to live on a budget over there.

Hmm interesting. Added to my list of documentaries to watch.

I am looking a bit into SF/Bay area as well.

Now it has the reputation as "Man Jose" and it's the place where all the H1-B visas live because they can't afford San Francisco.

The nice thing about that line of work is that in many cases it's location independent or you can contract yourself to work anywhere.

The Silicon Valley isn't Mecca anymore.

@EisenBarde - tell me if I am wrong, but I detect a hint of mockery here.

You're obviously welcome to subscribe to any thoughts that you choose. I would be curious though as to why you detest the immigrants. They are generally better educated and more motivated that the typical American.

San Jose does suck. But San Jose has always sucked. Mountain View and Sunnyvale used to be cool but now even Sunnyvale and Mountain View are getting pretty man heavy.

Personally I don't hate on the immigrants, but there are an awful lot of them and they're pretty much all men. There are just a lot of dudes in the south bay. I wouldn't recommend moving there to anybody who values picking up women as a past time.

I've got no problem with the comp sci immigants, but I don't want to date 'em.
