I am curious to hear their thoughts as well. I did write on that topic a while ago, if I can find that thread, I'll post a link to it. Here are some pros of both countries off the top of my head:

LOS wins in:
- overall infrastructures which is way more developped than the Phils.
- quality and overall food diversity and healthy food.
- higher quality of hotels, you get better bang for your buck hotels wise.
- girls are more beautiful, sophisticated and sexier in LOS.
- more things to do during the day and more cultural, sports, outdoor things to do than the Phils.
- faster internet.
- overall, LOS feels and is safer than the Phils, provided you do not behave as an arrogant prick.

Areas where the Phils are better:
- English speaking country, easier to communicate with people and girls.
- Tagalog as a language is easier to learn than Thai.
- Extremely easy to meet and bang girls .You can literally have a fresh new 18 year each day! some of the girls are truly incredibly sweet and sexy.
- Stunning beaches, some of them almost totally deserted and all for yourself if you went just a little bit off the beaten path.
- Visa rules a lot more friendlier than in LOS. You can basically stay up to almost 3 years in the Phils continously. Try that in LOS legally.
- More favorable overall climate to start and register a business in the Phils.

Both make great destinations for baselining specially for guys who are running or starting an online biz as you can live pretty good there for 1.5k/month and at 2k/month, live very nicely. If you are careful, 1k/month can be done in both countries.

All in all, if you want to run through an incredible amount of girls, then the Phils are very hard to match, let alone beat. If you want a more, balanced and overall total package and not just girls, then LOS is where it's at. I love both places and can't wait to return in both of them!

I agree with most everything Vacancier Permanent says but I would take exception to one thing...

I found it much easier to date up way higher on the social food chain in Manila. In a much shorter period of time I was able to date semi-famous actresses/musicians (nothing big time). In my years in BKK I dated some wealthy girls and some so-called models but nothing on the same caliber. I found that the higher the value the girl in Bangkok the more likely she is going to pick another high value Thai guy over a Farang. In Manila or Jakarta it was much easier to get top-tier girls.

Totally agree with you about the higher quality of talent in Manila. I should have mentioned that my experience in the Phils is strictly limited to Cebu. And I can totally see that in Manila, one would have access to a much higher calibre of girls, both in looks and social conditions, than say in a sleeping back water 2nd tier city, if not outright shit hole, as Cebu City.

This has been a big one for me. Call me bitch-made but food is very important to me. I love the diversity of Thai food - something I think a lot of foreigners never get a chance to check out as it seems they stick with menu of certain dishes. This is a complicated situation that leaves me confused when thinking about Philippines. Maybe the women are higher-quality in Thailand, but if those higher-quality birds are not available to us than Phils seems the obvious choice. From the stories I'm reading it seems that top of the line girls are open to dating white boys in the Philippines. Not exactly the case in Thailand.

So if considering the laws of relativity, it would seem the more sophisticated, hotter women are actually in the island country, as far as it pertains to us anyways.

I've been 3 times to the Phils and last time I spent two months here and I must say, the longer I stay the more I like it.

My first impression was horrible as I stayed in the bad part of Manila (Malate / Ermita). This place was full of homeless people, hookers, beggars and sex tourists.

But now that I've been living there for a longer period of time, Phils have grown on me.

Agreed. What's also a BIG one that make me even prefer the Phils over Thailand is the general mentality of the people.

For Thai people the world is divided in two groups: Thai people and non-Thai people. Farang being a subsection of the latter.

Generally they really don't care too much about anything non Thai.

What food do you like?
-Thai food.

You don't like anything else, Italian, Middle Eastern, Mexican, French,...?
-No, I don't like farang food..

They don't even make the distinction: Non-Thai food is farang food.



It's great that the Thai have such a strong cultural identity. But too often it is in combination with close-mindedness and a lack of intellectual curiosity. This is observed less so with the Thai that have actually travelled or lived abroad, but many of them haven't of course.

Compare this to Pinoy, they are much more open to other cultures and display much bigger intrinsic interest in the world beyond Philippines. Even if they haven't travelled beyond Asia or even their own country.

The Thai good thing cracks me up. Half of the girls on TF list Thai food as their favorite food. They don't even say something like Som Tom, they just say Thai food. I don't think any American would ever say American food is his favorite. It would be something like steak or pizza, not just straight up American food.

I'm also ungodly sick of Thai food. Small portions, white rice, lack of protein, drives me crazy. And it really isn't that cheap. I spend $3-$5 per meal on street food if I want something decent. I just got two pieces of grill chicken, Som Tom and sticky rice for 140 baht, just shy of $5. Not exactly expensive, but not cheap either. Eat 3-4 meals a day and you are runnin up a $400-$600 monthly food bill. I'm not one of those guys who can live on 3 30 baht meals per day.

Interesting perspectives. I am also torn between PI and Thailand. I unlocked the food issue in Manila, and you can get cheap protein in the PI, but I can also buy a couple of nice grilled fish here for 80 baht.

In the end, Manila ends up being "not so bad" - an archipelago of "nice" places like malls, Fort Bonifacio, Ortigas, Greenbelt, etc., surrounded by what Dan Brown called in his latest novel "the gates of hell" (which caused a ruffle in the Filipino press).

Bangkok is a world-class city, with all kinds of cultural events and little undiscovered places. Feels a lot safer than Manila, it's cleaner, the air is better and it's quieter.

The only thing is, Filipinas are better than Thai girls.

Aside from grilled chicken and grilled fish, it is hard to get a large amount of protein in a Thai meal unless you order 3 plates of larb or something like that.

Most meals have very little protein. If you are aiming to take in 150 or more grams per day, it can be very difficult. The grilled pork is good, but super fatty. I can only eat so many grilled chicken legs/thighs or fish per day. The grilled chicken is great, but it is thighs/legs with the skin on, so it has a lot of fat and is super greasy as well.

I love grilled chicken with som tom and sticky rice. I ate it yesterday and it was delicious. Unfortunately I was shitting half of the night. It was freshly grilled, so not sure why. There is two grilled chicken stands by my condo. I got sick from one yesterday, and the other one chops up their cooked chicken with the same knife, and on the same cutting board, as they do their raw pork and chicken. So I'm down from 2 to 0 grilled chicken stands, which fucking sucks because as you said, it's delicious.

My main problem with Thai food though is just that I am sick of rice. Thai food is diverse, but you eat rice with everything, so it isn't all that diverse. If I try to eat Thai food with no rice or noodles I would never get full.

I disagree about beef being everywhere. Thais don't eat much beef at all, and it is expensive here. There is a lot of duck around, but it is generally always either 5 or 6 small slices of duck with noodles, or with rice. Duck larb is fantastic, but not so easy to find.

Aside from grilled fish or chicken, most Thai meals are low on protein and high in fat or carbs. kai diow is great, but that is just eggs deep fried in very questionable oil and thrown over a bed of white rice. Not healthy for you at all. Just like in most of the world outside of the rest, Thai meals are a little bit of protein with a lot of rice or vegetables.

Anyways, I think BB is right that Thai food is diverse, but it isn't a good option for someone looking for a high protein/lower carb diet.

That's my rant for the day hah.
