I'm surprised there's not a thread on this, as so many on the board hail from "beyond the wall". I was wondering what you guys are wearing on the heavy side to stay warm in the coldest environments while still remaining stylish.

I preach that not one article of your attire should take the spotlight. Everything needs to work together. The difference is "nice shoes" to "wow you look really great". Think of it like report card. One "A" doesn't carry five "F's. All "B's" gets a better reaction.


It's hard to balance everything, and the problem with coats is they can either cover up or steal the show. I also advocate layering and going with a jacket, but it can look out of place, and in extreme environments, better for a heavier coat.

What are you guys wearing and how are you blending it?

I like to wear a peacoat with dark jeans and casual boots, like on the last photo here:

Now for what I do everyday I like to wear a heavy peacoat, button up shirt, a pair of heavy weight raw denim indigo or black jeans, and a pair of boots or dress shoes depending on business for the day. I might layer a black hoodie or hoodless track jacket under the coat if its really cold, and wear a nicer dress shirt and shoes if I am seeing clients. A good belt to go with that of course. and maybe a beanie cap if its really cold and windy.

Had to retire my peacoat this year due to wear. It was warm, but not didn't hold up to Wisconsin blizzard, Afghan, or Estonia. I'll buy another one, however the designer peacoats are more for fashion, not function.

I call that The Boondocks Saints look. Especially with the beanie and glasses.

I like cold, and I like winter coats.

Winter is the season that allows you to be really elegant (coloured scarfs, leather gloves, nice cashmere pullovers, ect).

Pal Zileri Sartorial, 100% cashmere, sumptuous mink collar. A killer in FSU. Not cheap, but you're a definitely a winner with this kind of coat.

   

Brioni coat, also 100% cashmere (a girl wet her panties when she holds your arm and feel the cashmere), more for autumn - here with a simple black shirt and a nice scarf.

I'm partial to fatigue jackets.

A heavy duty one is warm in itself. Throw on a Henley thermal if you need extra warmth.

Ha now your talking Alberta winters. Pretty sure there are a few of those hanging in the tack shacks on the family ranch.

They even smell like livestock, makes bridling the horses easier in the cold. Make sure the bit is thawed so the horses lips dont stick.

@Prosal. Those coats you posted are high end. I want a solid cashmere coat. And yeah, I can see those working in EE/Russia.

Don't be embittered. In the civilized world (Europe), long coats with fur collars are "in" - all brands make it this winter, including brands for young people like Dolce Gabbana, Prada, ect.

There is no age to be elegant.

This is the kind of coat you want to have this winter (here Pal Zileri - winter 2013/14). It matches both suits and jeans. Wear this kind of coat in EE/FSU and you'll literally push girl off of you.

When you don't wear this kind of coat with a suit, you can simply wear it with stylish Diesel jeans and for example a black turtleneck pullover (turtlenecks pullovers are this winter's trend) and chelsea boots. The contrast between your stylish jeans and the elegant fancy coat gives a real style. Winner.

I got it, the N-2B Parka:
