Men's Brains are Wired Differently to Women's Brains
Discovered this on Yahoo.

Quote:Men aren't from Mars and women aren't from Venus, but their brains really are wired differently, a new study suggests.

The research, which involved imaging the brains of nearly 1,000 adolescents, found that male brains had more connections within hemispheres, whereas female brains were more connected between hemispheres. The results, which apply to the population as a whole and not individuals, suggest that male brains may be optimized for motor skills, and female brains may be optimized for combining analytical and intuitive thinking.

Notice how male brain wiring (blue) is wired throughout front and back of each hemisphere whereas female wiring (orange) is centered in the front of both hemispheres.

What does that tell you?

You're a misogynist!! Gender difference is a social construction.

Quote:The results, which apply to the population as a whole and not individuals, suggest that male brains may be optimized for motor skills, and female brains may be optimized for combining analytical and intuitive thinking.

That's an incorrect conclusion.

Connections between hemispheres are much slower and are more inefficient than connections within hemispheres.

Therefore, keeping everything within the hemisphere is likely to dramatically improve analytical thinking due to speed processing improvements.

And WTF is intuitive thinking supposed to mean? If anything, looking at the history of great discoveries, it's men who have better intuition/inspiration.

The only advantage this gives women is that it makes their brain more resilient to brain damage, because neither hemisphere specialises too much, so the loss of one area can be picked up by another area. Women tend to recover for more quickly and with better outcomes from strokes and head trauma.

The lack of specialisation also means women are better at multi-tasking, whereas a man's brain goes into a zone when he's focused because an entire hemisphere is pulled into whatever he's concentrating at.

As a result, men have a far greater spread of intelligence than women. The ability of the brain to specialise within a hemisphere allows for genius to arise, but it also means that if there is any problem in the brain's wiring, then the man is screwed, since one hemisphere cannot easily compensate for a fault in the other. As a result, there are more male geniuses than female geniuses, but also more male idiots than female idiots.

The female brain, unable to specialise functions within one hemisphere, loses the processing speed and power advantages that come from specialisation, but they also don't carry the inherent risks that come from specialisation, therefore female intelligence tends to cluster around the average rather than spread out like male intelligence.

This is the true conclusion to draw from these male-female brain comparisons - women have more resilient but less brilliant brains, while men potentially have more brilliant brains but that comes with the risk of being incredibly stupid if anything wrong happens during brain development and also a stroke or head trauma is far more devastating in men too.

So men's brains are optimised, and women's brains are already operating in failure mode?

They had my interest until they said "female brains may be optimized for combining analytical and intuitive thinking".

It must suck big sweaty balls to do this kind of hard research for months, draw interesting conclusions, and then have your boss say "nope you can't write any of that. Just say they're analytical and intuitive or some shit."

Wow, just wow.

What this says is that girls are probably more likely to confuse their emotions with logic.

What's most interesting about this is that we here have known this crap for years. Are we some branch of grass-roots science?

I wonder if people who practice zen meditation feel the same way about consciousness and all that.

It also means that women's brains sometimes run 2 contradictory processes at the same time in each hemisphere.

So one brain hemisphere says, "We are not going to have sex."

While the other hemisphere says, "Oh yes we are!"

Since decision making is shared between hemispheres, that means either side can win.
