Asking Hipsters About Bands that Don't Exist

Quote:You can't be a hipster without only loving music that nobody else has ever heard of. It seems to be one of the most important part of being a hipster. Suddenly, bands that achieve mainstream success "are too commercial" and their music ceases to be enjoyable. Weird. I guess it's just one of those "hipster-isms" that you need to accept to be a hipster.

See, it's not the desire to discover new bands for the purpose of getting their music out for the rest of the world to hear that drives this need. No, in fact, it's quite the opposite. The hipster seems to only be happy if they know something you don't know, but as soon as you know it, it's no longer hip, and thus ends the hipster's infatuation with that band.

This video is great, with the only exception being the part about Two Door Cinema Club that the crowd seems to get a big kick out of but the band does actually exist. Although I'm quite certain they never made an album called DJ Cornmeal ...

I've been thinking about buying cheapo clothes and going "hipster" for the sake of hitting on hipster girls.

Totally going to go to a second hand store just to get cheapo stuff. Then ask girls about bands that don't exist.

Almost couldn't finish that as I was cringing that much. Funny though.

A lot of the girls at Coachella are more hippie type chicks than hipsters (see below), but the video is still funny.

Nobody in that video was actually a hipster. The word gets thrown around way too loosely and applied to people who don't even remotely resemble hipsters. This is a hipster:

I don't even think hipsters go to Coachella, it's too mainstream for their liking. Some of those chics in the video just seemed like your run-of-the-mill Socal sorority girls.

Post Of The Day

Man, I was about to post that same thing. Her voice embodies everything that annoys me about American women. The valley talk, the whiny pitch, the vocal fry and all. I'd have to get up and leave if a woman was sitting near me talking like that out loud. That was one positive about leaving California, I haven't heard any woman sound like that since.

making shit up when talking about pop culture works. I'm gonna start doing that with books, bands, and and art.

Insecure people define themselves by saying what they are not. Or are.

Secure people let their deeds themselves speak as testament to their character.

We used to do stuff like that with movies. We'd just be talking about what we saw over the summer etc. and someone would always butt in that you didn't want around -- agreeing with you etc.

Then we'd start exaggerating a little and say something like. "Yeah, that part where Bender (The Breakfast Club) stacks all the books on the football field and lights them on fire. That part was cool."

And people for some reason, who hadn't seen the movie would go. "Oh yeah, that part was cool."

I never understood why someone would lie about something like seeing a movie.

I can get on board with all that.

I have "no dog in this fight," as they say, regarding hipsters (most of these people don't even seem to fit that stereotype). In fact, I like a lot of people most would consider hipsters.

I don't believe in labels either, but I do believe in not taking life too seriously. This video is humor and I took the text as being sarcastic. It's funny.

It reminded me of when they interviewed all the people outside fashion week about hot new designers that didn't exist. Also good comedy.

How much of this is a about hipsters and how much of this is about Southern California. I sometimes get the feeling that LA is just an entire city built on people bullshitting each other. Can you even get directions in LA without someone trying to impress you with some
nonsense.

"How do I get to the In N Out on Sunset?"
"So, you want to drive down that like street, right past Joachim Pheonix' house. He's a friend. I hang out there like all the time. Then you make a left in Sunset, right past like The Roxy, which is such a great place. I like live in the VIP room there..."

You've pretty much summed up why I couldn't live out there.

I've lived in Southern California 95% of my life and that has NEVER happened to me. usually the people that are anal and act like douchebags are people who come from somewhere else and buy into some bullshit idea of "Hollywood" they were fed by I don't know what, media, movies. If anyone were to act like that where I grew up they'd be laughed at or punched.
