I've traveled quite a bit but I've never traveled to a country which required a visa to be granted prior to entry. I pulled the trigger and bought tickets to Brazil for the World Cup this summer and now I need to get my visa. I don't live anywhere near an embassy or consulate so I will probably need to use an expediting service.

Does anyone here have experience with that? Is there a company you would recommend that's cheaper or more reliable? Any help would be appreciated.

Second off, and you may have already known this, but Brazil is giving out special tourist visas for FREE (normally $100+ for US citizens) with proof of World Cup tickets. I believe it grants you a 90 day stay, but here are the details: http://chicago.itamaraty.gov.br/en-us/visas.xml

My nearest consulate was a 7 hour drive and I made a weekend out of it - I prefer to handle that kind of thing in person. If you still want to mail it, get going on it now, it could take up to a month of processing.
As far as courier/expediting services, other members will have to chime in...

Hey OP,

What city are you from in the US?

I used Its Easy in NYC. They have a location in DC as well. Instead of going to the Brazilian consulate in Houston (Im in Dallas/FW), I had a business trip and worked with Its Easy. Cost me around $200-225.00 but I paid nothing for shipping because was in NYC for a 9 day business trip back in August. This was back in 2011. They should help you get a 10 year tourist visa.

I will be in Rio Jun 18-24 and then outside of Recife from Jun 24-28th. Unfortunately I haven't been able to score any tickets yet but I'm just happy to be in country while the games are happening. I live in NW Florida on the panhandle at the moment.

If you have the money, use Its Easy as someone mentioned.

Couple years ago my boys and I booked our tickets to Rio and then there was a blurb that said "Some countries may require a VISA." Come to find out, Brazil was one of them and our trip was in 10 days! I paid for the expedited service and got it back in about 5 days but it did cost me an extra 200 on top of the 160 bucks.

If you can, go to the consulate as thats what my friend did. He didn't live too far from it. I'm in NY but I couldn't get the time off to drive the 2 hrs necessary to get to the consulate.

I'm so mad that the poster above mentioned that they are giving out visa's for free with proof of a world cup ticket. I may be going back to Brazil to see my friend again and I believe my Visa expires in 2015 (I got it in 2011)

I actually went ahead and sent my paperwork to It's Easy right before I saw this post. I suppose I paid far more than I really had to but you live and you learn I guess.

Well, at least you're paying for convenience. They'll do all the legwork for you.

Note to everyone on here, for future reference use visahunter.com for finding visa information ANYWHERE. My boy who lives in Rio created the site. Cool guy who did painstaking research to find that info. Doesn't charge a penny for it either.

I saw OP already sent his visa package to a an expediting service. I'll add the servie I used for my visa as well, for other ppl who use this thread for future reference.

They were good and reliable. Their customer service is very helpful if you have any questions. I got mine in about two weeks. I would rather use an expediting service than deal with consulate bureaucracy BS. Especially Brazilian bureaucracy.
