After traveling quite a few times, I've noticed traveling light and bringing the right gear is CRUCIAL to making my trip as enjoyable as possible. Bring too much stuff and you'll feel like a slave dragging all that stuff around, too little stuff could also be a bit of a disaster so I've been tinkering with this list for some time because I plan on being in countries for 6 months to a year at least. I'm sure it's not complete but it's got a ton of stuff already so I'd say it's close to finished. Some of it is also just my personal choice of clothing that's light, easy to mix/match and easy to pack. I was looking for mainly clothes I can use in gym/summer settings, your style might differ. Maybe it'll help some of you guys narrow down what you might want to bring on the next trip to the poosy paradise.

International Swoop Gear

1. Asus G750 Laptop $1500- I was considering making a small form factor desktop PC because having a really good computer is a must have if I'm going to be anywhere for 4 months or longer but in the end I had to succumb to getting a laptop. This is one of the best laptops you can get for your dollar. The graphics card is amazing, it's cooling capabilities are great so you won't be burning your lap, it's very fast. I recommend this one over Alienware's bulkier more expensive version especially if you use or plan to use graphics intensive programs or gaming. This is a heavy item list at 10 pounds but as far as high quality portable computers go with you it's as light as it gets. The MSI GT70 $1600 is a strong second choice as well.

5. 2 pairs of ECCO Men's Biom Zero Cross-Training Shoes(1 black 1 white) $170 each pair

6. Smartwool PhD Running Light Micro Sock $20 each- Fast drying rugged socks.


7. 7 Tank Tops 1 Black 1 Red 1 Yellow 1 Orange 1 Green 1 White 1 Blue $20 each


8. Mont-Bell Ex-Light Down Jacket $200- Ulta light jacket with great cover for winter. This one has been recommended to me by quite a few friends who travel.

9. Samsung Galaxy Note 3 $600- This phone is amazing, it's a mini tablet and phone combined. It has so many features cram packed into this device I won't bother listing too many of them here. It's the king of smart phones IMO. It's big enough to enjoy watching movies and read books with it's great screen size but small enough to fit in my pockets. Battery life is great, very fast processor. You'll get a lot of random people commenting about you're phone because it's so big it's just attractive, so few people carry around such big phones. This also means you have to hide it in countries where you might get jacked so keep that in mind.

11. Nitecore EC1 Flashlight $45- This little bad boy is bright! Take it anywhere with you it fits in your pocket easily. Drunk dude spouting his mouth off? Flash this in his face and bounce, or clock him whatever you gotta do.


12. Leatherman Surge $75- Leatherman wave is good too but Surge has a few more tools.


13. Joby GorillaPod $30- I know, I'm vain.


14. Snow Peak Titanium Multi Compact Cookset $96- From what I've read between steel, aluminum and titanium titanium is the way to go.


15. Two pairs of Tom Plimsolls one black one white $48 each


16. Osprey Xenith 105 Backpack With Daypack $390- Comes with a daypack that detaches from the main pack you can just put your a couple things in there plus your laptop there and go about your day.


17. 1 Fisherman hat $20- Good against the sun.


18. Ray-bans Foldable $120


19. Compound Bow $500- If you like to hunt, this one's pretty light too at 4 pounds.


20. Mushkin Ventura 240GB $240- The fastest usb stick with one of the largest capacities around. Don't skimp out.

31. Kor Nava Water Bottle $30- I had a friend drink water in a river while we were in the jungle in Costa Rica the water was crystal clear, he still got very sick from drinking it and ruined most of his trip. This bottle will let you drink just about anywhere.

54. 5 Icebreaker Men's Anatomica Brief $25 each- The material used to make these brief's is merino wool, it is fast drying, comfortabl and resistant to wear and tear. Lot's of people who travel often have recommended Icebreaker to me.

55. Vertex Ultra Light Camping Stove $60- Weigh's 0.18 ounces and folds up into a nice thin sheet.


56. This is just a specialty item but I want to get it Nomiku $350- It's great for cooking food to perfect levels and hands free, it can be cooking for quite a long time and you can't overcook it because of temp controls. Nice little item if you like perfect medium steaks.

I've got to check out more Icebreaker stuff. A little of the stuff was too tight to the body for my tastes for travelling, I've had better luck with Lululemon 5 year basic Tees or the James Perse basic Vneck.

I've been doing Ex-Officio, but sometimes the underwear smells weird due to the material. I really liked the Smartwool socks too on your list (although one pair got a hole in in pretty quickly).

I'm going to be adding Patagonia Baggies shorts to my regular rotation of travel gear.

Also mentioned in the "cool gear for men thread", go with the compressible Eagle Creek cubes. Saves maybe a good 30% in volume. Those eccos have been on my radar as well. Perhaps if they go on sale I'll get them

I like to buy a lot of stuff locally though, but nonetheless a good list and a great starting off point for ideas.

what kinda two are you taking?
I'm not hating, some of that stuff seems awesome.
but I've taken 2+ month trips and could drop 2/3rds off that stuff.

anything cosmetic or things like stocks, underwear. I normallyjust pack a couple days worth and then buy the rest of them in country. save space

+1 on the Icebreaker gear. I had to buy it one size up. I would not recommend if you don't have a V-shape body or any type of larger stomach. They run narrow along the mid-section.
