Talk about Tokyo, "Tokyo is a inakamono(people from the countryside)'s gathering" is a running joke in Japan so you have more chance of running into people who originally from another prefectures in Tokyo than "real" Tokyo people. And Tokyo in New Year is a lonely place because most people go back to their hometowns.

Like Scotch. I have been in and out of Japan since 99. I am also married to a Japanese girl from Saitama. Interesting how everyone talks about about Tokyo and Osaka. I don't know what some of you guys think but nightlife and game opportunitys on a night out do not seem to be so great in Tokyo these days. Of course that's just my opinion. Surprisingly I have done quite well in my second home Hiroshima. I unbelievably got pulled by a 23 year old Hakata bin ( 7) two weeks ago. I am 37 so kind of took me back 5-10 years into my past life. Hiroshima is a good night out with quite a few gaijin bars in which you could close the deal. Another place no body has mentioned is Fukuoka aka fuck you over. Tenjin is a great place to go there. The local girls there are renowned throughout Japan as being some of the most beautiful in the land. Sam and Dave's and Happy cock were buzzing when I have been there on the last two occasions. Sadly I am not like some of you young Nampa hunters but it does give me a wry smile reading the Japanese threads and a longing for the past lolol. Keep up the good work

Oh man, where to start. Japan is just an incredibly lonely and atomized place for many people. Tokyo or Osaka, millions and millions of people filed away in their little apartments, often alone, in sexless marriages, salarymen with absolutely no autonomy getting fucked in the ass at work and by their wives.

There is a lot of interpersonal cruelty, sadism you might say, under the surface, and the thing is, compared to Western countries, there is almost no escape. Due to language and cultural conditioning, they feel locked in to their nation and their way of life in a way that we English speakers don't. We have this expansive sense of self-improvement, fuck the man, start a business, travel the world and have sex with women from different countries, be a maverick and you'll be OK. It may be partly a myth but it gives us hope. They just don't have that over there.

When I lived there it was great to give a good time to some of those unhappy shopgirls. They may have been 5s and 6s, honestly, but it was nice to be a bit of larger than life fun in their very boring and regimented lives.

A genuine Japanese 7? Like the top 20% of J-girls in their 20s?

I would go as far as to say that Japan is no longer a pussy paradise period. I have to be really on my shit to pull decent quality here. Thing is, there's no place better if you like Asian women....

One thing that I wanted to touch on in this thread, and this certainly connects to game, is nationalism. In recent years there's been a huge effort to stir up nationalism in the Japanese. It's happening at all levels of education, on television (which is heavily controlled by the government), and in print media (this too). The tenor of it isn't as terrifying as their WWII fall-on-my-sword, emperor-worshipping nationalism was, but the message of Japanese superiority is the same.

One of the best examples of this is the recent nomination of Japanese traditional cuisine, "Washoku," to the UNESCO Intangible World Heritage list. The entire process was covered extensively in the media. Japanese food was proclaimed the most delicious in the world, the healthiest in the world, and the most beautiful in the world. Japanese people were said to be the most cultured of all; their palates unrivaled anywhere on earth. A prominent member of the royal family took this theme and ran with it, releasing a masturbatory love letter to Japan entitled "Why is Japan the Most Popular Nation on Earth?" It was a six week best seller and triggered a late boom in popularity for his previous book, a retardedly revisionist history piece called "Why Don't Japanese People Know About Japan?"

Anti-Korean, anti-Chinese, and anti-foreign sentiment in general is up as well. An acquaintance of mine doing research on the Zaitokukai, a group trying to prevent Japanese people of recent Korean ancestry from getting the vote (yes, that means they don't have it), tells me that membership in right-wing nationalist groups is on the rise. I have personally had two incidents in just the last week, one where someone said something to me and one where I overheard someone talking about me.

The point of all this is that the Japanese are no longer interested in foreigners at all. Before, you could get a small in with some girls and outright bang others just because you were a foreigner. I think that era is finally at an end. In some cases you'll be actively discriminated against (I've been turned away from restaurants in rural areas many times and once even in Nagoya), but mostly people just won't give a shit about you. This means that when you approach a girl, her first reaction will be minor annoyance. It sounds like a lame excuse, but my recent social experiment has given interesting results.

Again, I don't have the numbers to make it all scientific-like, but I guess now that I've gone off about nationalism, I have to let everyone know about the experiment. My theory was that Japanese girls would respond better to me if they thought I was part Japanese. I got the idea from a guy I met during my brief stint on JLair. He was actually only an eighth Japanese, but I noticed girls treated him quite differently the instant they found out. So I created a separate identity, Benjamin, and a back story about having Japanese blood. I'm too white looking to pull off half, so I went with a quarter. The Japanese believe very strongly in the idea that "Japaneseness" comes from your genes. They've even based national policy on this in the past (to disastrous results). Aside from the little back story about having a Japanese grandfather and having a different name, I made everything else exactly the same. I approach as close to the same number of girls as Skotch and as Benjamin as possible.

Again, I haven't done enough yet to say definitively, but since starting the experiment at the beginning of the year, Benjamin has almost triple the notches Skotch has in roughly the same number of approaches (11 to 4). One thing I notice as Benjamin is that communication is much more smooth. When girls find out he's a quarter Japanese, they cut out all the retarded questions like, "why are you in Japan?" or "can you use chopsticks?" It makes communication much easier and the awkward moments that stem from that initial requisite "foreigner questionnaire" period disappear. Like I said before, I believe this requires a very high level of Japanese proficiency. I don't look the least bit Asian, so the lie is sold by my fluency.

I'll keep working on this and write up a little report. Any thoughts would be appreciated. When I'm Benjamin, I could be doing something differently on a subconscious level, or perhaps talking to women under a fake identity is giving me extra confidence. I don't know.


TLDR version: Japan is growing more nationalistic; I accidentally gave myself multiple personality disorder.

Thank you Skotch. This seems like a brilliant idea if one becomes fluent in Japanese. I've actually heard a lot even in outside news sources about the growing national sentiment(which is inevitable in a country 99% homogenized of a single ethnicity). Japanese people have a tendency of xenophobia, I just hope it doesn't get to the level it was before.

Oh, I also wanted to post an update on the hostess club girl that had a tantrum and hit me. I remember you mentioning this experiment of yours in the past. I've considered trying it myself, just to see how it works. My Japanese isn't as fluent as yours, but I at least talk fast and don't seem to have such a strong accent. Could give it a shot just to see the results.

As far as Japanese women's reactions towards foreigners, it can depend on the individual, but from my experience it's largely neutral.

I've come to realize that the Japanese can be just as ignorant about the outside world as Americans are given credit for. Been working an English teaching job for the past month, some of the stuff these students tell me about the world is a bit shocking.

Me: "What did the Ancient Romans speak?"
Student: "Um...English?"
Me: "No. The Romans did not speak English. Where does English come from?"
Student: "Um...Italy?" [sees the look on my face] "Uh...Spain? Germany?"

Me: "Tell me the names of the continents."
Student: "Africa, Eurasia...um...um...北極 Hokkyoku (North Pole)?"
Me: "北極は大陸じゃないThe North Pole is not a continent."
Student: "北極は大陸じゃない?"...uh...Russia?

There's also the question: "Do they have four seasons in foreign countries?"

To be fair, there's similarly ignorant things Americans and other Westerners have mentioned...but, damn.

I also enjoy telling girls I first meet that I'm either from Antarctica, the North Pole or the South Pole. Fortunately, most know that I'm just fucking with them, but quite a few believe me, or they say "Oh, you mean Iceland?/Ireland?"

I had a white friend who used to tell girls here that he was born in Japan. Actually, he was, because his father was a US military member stationed in Japan when he was born. I noticed a little different demeanor by the girls towards him once they found that out. If he could have backed that up with some decent Japanese language ability, it probably would have helped him more.

As others have said, being a foreigner in Tokyo, Nagoya, or Osaka apparently no longer gives you street cred with the young women, although it still appears to do so to some degree in Fukuoka and Hiroshima. From what I have observed, it does still give you an in with older women (30s and 40s) who are bored or fed up with Japanese men and want a little excitement in their lives. FWIW.

As far as nationalism and ethnocentrism, one thing I've noticed that has changed since I first came here in 1994 is that now more Japanese people expect me to be able to speak Japanese. The last few years I would say that 80-90% of the Japanese I encounter while conducting daily business speak to me in Japanese and expect me to respond in kind. Before, it was more like 50%. I have not experienced any racism. I've even tried to troll the dudes in the black buses (which my wife warns me is a very bad idea) and they ignored me.

I don’t have a thing for Asian women, but I noticed that even the women who work in 7-11s in Tokyo are at least a 6’s. There were 8s every couple of blocks handing out leaflets to concerts. I never felt any anti-foreigner vibe when I was there.

For me it's an interesting paradox that nationalism is growing at the same time as globalism is rising in the Japanese business world.

Japanese companies are massively more open to hiring foreigners than they were even 5 years ago. Anyone who works here will tell you that. There are the outliers like Rakuten, who have introduced English as the common language, but more often we are talking about your standard Japanese corporations and SMEs. These companies have finally woken up and realized that they need the international market and, by extension, foreigners.

This unmistakable economic and social shift is largely out of sync with the young Japanese kids who aren't interested in learning English or studying abroad. Exchange student numbers to abroad have been decreasing for years.

How does this all reflect on game? For me, it's not that Japanese girls dislike foreigners any more than previous generations, but the novelty value has gone. We just aren't all that special now.

Almost every girl who lives in a major city has a foreign acquaintance and the image of the poor English teacher is strongly ingrained. Seriously, sometimes I want to slap the girls who ask "eigo no sensei desho?" The assumption is annoying as fuck.

Foreigners with shitty Japanese are regularly mocked on TV. Previous generations were amazed if a foreigner could speak Japanese at all. Things change.

With the mystery gone, the challenge is to not rely on your foreignness to get laid. Japan may not be a pussy paradise but it can bring big rewards in pussy for those willing to stay and put in the work.

I would say that does make it harder. Their first impression is of you is a poor English teacher here to read manga and watch anime. That's not a neutral opinion. I don't need any advantages, but I don't see how a girl believing she knows everything about you just by looking at you can be anything but a disadvantage.

One of the best pieces of advice I ever got about game in Japan was to stop being a foreign entertainer and become like a Japanese guy. Speaking Japanese well is just the beginning. The friend who told me this got some of the hottest girls I have seen any foreigner get in Japan, although he is now married.

How far you want to change your identity for the sake of pussy is another topic, but becoming more Japanese is effective without a shadow of a doubt.

One last point. The second best piece of advice that this friend gave me was:

"Make sure your arms are bigger than 99% of Japanese guys"

Hitting the gym is a huge boost to game anywhere, but in Japan it's something that pays off within a few months.
