I see a lot of style threads on here, but none really about urban clothes which is the choice of clothing for most people I know under the age of 25.
So let's start up an urban clothing thread.

Normally I would wear something like this -

Shoe - Converse or Nike Blazer
       


Pants - Straight Jeans - Black, Khaki, Black    

- Cargo Shorts or Basketball Shorts        

Shirts - V - neck - Black,White - Plain    

- Shirt - Checkered with Black squares    

- Printed in One color    

Chain - Gold

Watch - G - Shock - Black

Socks - White

You don't see this as most of us are trying to set ourselves apart from guys who dress like this. There's no art to dressing like the 14 yr old neighbor kid.

I agree with the comments. Dressing like this screams out "unemployment." I don't wear suits to clubs, but I do wear clothing that fits well. Several girls who I banged told me that they liked me because of the way I dress, and how it makes me look "smart." They started going on about how they like smart guys. Dressing like this makes you look stupid, like you have poor social intelligence.

Some "Urban" clothes are cool, but as a black 19 year old, I wouldn't even consider wearing any of the clothing posted in the OP. You don't have to suited (or even polo wearing, sperry rocking fratwear) as a young guy, but I think keeping it simple works best. Slim fit denim and khakis. If you've got coin, APC or Nudies are the way to go for denim. Banana Republic makes pretty nice chinos and khakis. I personally wouldn't buy a pair, but Vans are a pretty simple shoe that you can get a lot of mileage out of, and there's a lot of different colors and whatnot. For t-shirts and such, I'd stick to the Nordstrom brands. Obey is a pretty cool "urban" brand, and I'd definitely still rock one of their tees.











The stuff posted above, in my opinion, really tends to look outdated pretty fast. Personally, I go the "fratwear" route, and my closet is a lot of Ralph Lauren and Banana Republic, plain colored American Apparel tees and a few items from Pacsun that have stayed in my closet from high school. If you're shopping "urban" I'd recommend sticking to places like Nordstroms, PacSun, Urban Outfitters and American Apparel. Stay far the fuck away from "swag" brands like Diamond and LRG.




But fuck what you wear, if you can get girls wearing leggings and no shirt, who the fuck am I or anyone else to tell you how to dress...

OK maybe getting suited up and dressing slick is all good when trying to impress people at the club but what do you guys wear during the day. Say the weekend during the day, you pop down to the pub for a quick pint to catch up with your mates. I wouldn't feel natural getting all dressed up. This thread has some good potential, there are times when casual clothing is needed and urban style clothes beats dressing up like a posh git in red coloured jeans and a polo shirt (Maybe a UK thing)

I find style is like music.
There's an appropriate music/style for different situations/moods.
If my friend listened to heavy house club music 24/7 I'd tell him bro wtf is wrong with you.
If my friend wore his suit everywhere we went, I'd tell him bro wtf is wrong with you.

I find guys overly obsessive with style quite feminine.
I observe that girls appreciate guys with a sense of style, but who still dont give much of a fuck about it at the same time.
Ive hooked up with many hotties wearing my day to day gear : a plaid shirt and jeans, fitted baseball cap, with some vans & unshaved beard.

Clothes that fit you well >>>

I think that's why suits attract women so much, they are tailored. So when shopping I like to keep in mind that fit is over everything.

Im not saying there arent times that you dont dress down, I dont go suited up 24/7. As a general rule I try to dress better than the crowd Im going to be in but that also doesnt mean dressing metro with flamboyant colors and shit unless thats your niche. Im just saying there is dressing well while casual and then there is dressing like the neighbor kid . Runners/gym shoes are left for the gym and sports for me, I wouldnt wear them out to any social outing. If Im going casual to a bar to watch a hockey game I'll still put on a pair of boots, or a good pair of casual dress shoes/ loafers. Ive invested in great raw denim that is perfect for casual days, they look infinitely better than the shlub wearing his ill fitting chinos or baggy ass jeans. If its a place that everybody would wear trendy raw denims Id step up my game and get out of jeans. Jerseys unless youre at a sports event are a dont. If Im somewhere hot and its casual then a vneck tshirt that fits well, but unless its boat weather where im at I will either go something on top of that, ie good leather jacket/ sweater or I go tailored dress shirt, then depending on the crowd if I know the odd dress shirt will be worn Im going with blazer/sportcoat. There is casual style and then there is sloppy. Think McQueen, think Daniel Craig these days, think Idris Elba, and less skateboarder. The guys mentioned knew or know how to dress when they're not suited up but how to still stand apart from the riff raff.

In the end it is all about who you want to attract. I know hoodrats who like men who dress well and Valley girls who like neck tattoos, chucks and ball caps. Boppers are boppers, in the end it's all about how you feel about yourself, what bird you want to attract, and not giving a fuck about what other people think.

It's your world and other people live in it.

That being said, the West Coast dudes are something else. Me and my cousins went to Belize in November and their sense of style is very unique.

Clothing is tribe. Ask yourself - what tribe do you want to belong to? The cargo shorts tribe or the tailored tribe?

EDIT: And I say this personally as someone who usually dresses down - but my tribe is artistic professionals, and no one trusts a creative dressed nicer then they are, but they also don't trust one without some sense of style.

We should have the CSD Challenge, Custom Suited Down Challenge.

It consists of the following, going CSD for a full day in a challenging environment and seeing how you do.

Wearing a suit is different in BKK than in Vegas or Siberia......or Dominica.

Cotton CSD in Ho Chi Minh City, that's the end of of "suited up"

It's just that, unless for a serious event, You'd get laughed off the street for wearing tailored suits or something like that. Especially at my age group. Also the clothes I mention fit my build and style.

Depends on their level of game but, it does make life easier to look the part.

this is what you young guys need to learn...how you dress isn't about women, it isn't about game, it's not about who laughs at you and fitting in...it's about who you want the world to see you as. What is the image you want to show the world. Who cares who laughs at you, the people who can directly influence your life respond to how you carry yourself. Getting clowned on the street by the people who will never be better than the street isn't so bothersome when your bank account allows you to jet off every weekend while they're still on the street. Don't worry yourself with what the lowest common denominator thinks, show the world who you are, and if you're not there who you want to be. The women will always be around and the better you are the more they trip over themselves to come around so don't worry about dressing for them. Almost every man who has made something out of himself from scratch has been laughed at by somebody, worry yourself with being better than the rest not fitting in with them.

Here's the thing.

I don't think ChristianMcQueen or the others are advocating that you be custom suited down all the time.

However, it does pay dividends to dress well.

If you want to dress casual there are ways to do it in a manner that people will take you seriously. You can be well dressed casual as well. That means wearing fitted clothes, maybe some layering, a couple of accessories, and good color coordination.

Hmm that's a borderline personal attack thier buddio. Like I said those clothes fit me and to each thier own, I definitely see you guys view on this, so if "you" guys were to dress more casual/urban how would you do it.

I'm UK and slim jeans, chelsea boots, and a fitted (but not tight) t shirt is pretty much what I wear for going to the pub etc. Day to day when running errands I just wear sports wear as I'm comfortable in it, and it means I don't have to change when I go to the gym. Night time I will dress up a little more - more interesting boots, flashier washes for the denim, and then shirts, blazers, or tailored overcoats on top. I almost never wear suits, I just prefer how denim looks compared to suit trousers.

I have been meaning to do a write up on style for college-aged kids. I got a bunch of dress shirts tailored recently, and I rock them with neck-ties(from tie bar) and jeans(fitted). If it's warm I wear stone-colored Sperry's, or if it's cold I wear my Redwing's.

When I go about like that I feel like the most high-status person everywhere I go, and I'm on a huge college campus. The professors don't even want to fuck with me, and I get eye fucked by cute girls more than I even know what to do with. People move out of my way, it's awesome.

I don't roll like this everyday. I bought a bunch of $15 Henley's from H & M a few months ago that I rotate in. Some days I will throw a beat up hoodie into the mix to change it up (still with the fly jeans and shoes).

The thing I get the most compliments on is a blue hooded sweatshirt I bought from H&M. I can't find a pic of it online, but it was on the classier side as far as hoodies go.

My favorite are the tailored shirts because they show off the V-taper.

That's what works for me, but by all means dress however makes you feel like you are somebody.

The reason why guys look good in suits is partially because they are tailored.
Whatever clothes you rock, make sure the FIT is right.
I feel a lot of guys neglect this when shopping.
Know your measurements. There's a lot of "looking good" value, just by doing so.
Even if it's a hoodie, dress shirt, jeans... whatever the style you trying to rock, get fitted.

Girls WILL notice it.

This is the most important thing. And yes, girls really do notice this.

I only had about 5 work shirts so I bought a load from Uniqlo last week to get the numbers up.

They look ok, but they're nothing special, HOWEVER, they fit absolutely perfectly. Transforms an above-average shirt into a VERY good one IMO.

My quick-tip for seeing if the shirt fits.

Clasp your hands flat behind your back and try to grab as much of the shirt between your hands as possible. It should absolutely not come out further than a full hand. The perfect fit is somewhere around your second finger. Less than one finger and it's possibly a little tight.



No muffin top over the trousers either (if you're tucking it in, that is).

Also, don't be afraid to run around the shops for five hours. You want to be 100% sure it's the right one.
