This whole scenario seems pretty ridiculous to me. For those of you know who Robinson Cano is he recently signed a 10 year 240 million dollar baseball contract. In past years he has had very high salaries as well.

His baby momma (is plus size) which is surprising.

More surprising is he only pays $600 child support a month and recently had it raised to $1200 a month...on a $24 million a year salary.

It seems to me he bought her a house + bmw and she signed off her rights. Otherwise I don't understand how he possibly managed that deal.

There are pictures of Canos house as well in the link. While very nice, I would've expected a bit larger of a property width wise from a baseball superstar especially considering real estate prices in the DR. Alfonso Soriano lives in the same community.

I was in a bar in the south Bronx once on like a monday night and the door slams open and Robinson Cano , Bobby Abreu and Melky Cabrera fell inside sloshed as all hell! They had a bottle of Johnny walker blue and were just drinking it to the face. It was hilarious. Those guys party hard.

It doesn't surprise me one bit that they party hard! Melky especially.

I think this goes against the grain that people who are famous and wealthy athletes are banging super models day and night. You'd think in a place like the DR where his wealth even goes further...if you look at the real estate in the place where he lives it seems 400m2 homes with pools in gated communities are like 200k you'd think he'd have been tapping something a little better.

Example: This is 300k US and listed as 1000m2.

I hadn't seen it before. It seems Melky doesn't have the best english.

As a professional athlete I doubt he could make the intermediate lifts in the recent weightlifting / strength thread haha.

I guess she isn't arbitration eligible which is why she isn't getting paid too much, yet. At least she got a nice baby popping out signing bonus of a car and house. Part of the deal should be him paying for her gym membership.

Haaaha looks like more of Jay Z's magic eh? Good for him though, making 24 mil with the M's and then giving that fat bitch only 1500. And that's in the Dominican Republic. It's much cheaper to live there than the US, and it looks like she's got a nice enough house.

She's complaining she doesn't want the kid to be poor. I would bet money that if they ever end up homeless, Cano would bring the kid to the US.

Hopefully they don't get the 25,000 they're asking for. Most of that would go to the mom. The kid wouldn't see any of it thrown his way in regards to better education, clothes, nannies, etc. The mom would just all of a sudden start driving German import cars. Don't give them more.

His tan line is hilarious. And he did get caught taking peds so who knows. A lot of those guys don't really lift for strength during the season. It's hard enough to play 162 games.

In further note, he was in a relationship for 2 years with her! She miscarried once...and he stayed with her and got her pregnant again!

She was previously married and has 3 teenagers...Also is 8 years Cano's senior.

This is one of my favorite pastimes. It is nice to know that even if I do not become extremely wealthy by American standards and merely top out at "affluent/well-off", I can still potentially live like a king elsewhere with a palace to match.

While I was in university I was able to experience what living like a 1%er is like by living in Cuba on 3k or so a month. Highest I spent there was 4500 in a month. It was pretty damn good. It also has given me increasing motivation to become successful because I've soon how good I was able to live on that amount.

On a rather mediocre salary in the US you'd be a 1%er in much of the world. With some hard work and a good education you could easily be a 0.1%er in the world.

I'm with you Athlone in that I like to look at property all the time. Personally I limit my searches to Cuba, DR, Colombia, Brazil as those are the countries that are of interest to me at this stage in my life.

The quality of housing available though, and lifestyle available seems to require far less money than it does here. We are lucky to be born in countries where high incomes are very achievable and we can then take advantage of arbitrage by using our high incomes here to be very rich elsewhere.

I doubt that place Cano has in the DR is worth more than 500k based on the properties I looked at in the place where he lives. A middle class American could just about afford to buy a place in the same subdivision as Alfonso Soriano and Cano. That is pretty laughable if you think about it considering they make a few hundred times what the average American makes per year.
