Yeah, that video is a good motivator.

Seems like Thailand.

Cool video!

Bad song.

Cardguy

PS I must be weird. Other than the hot chicks - none of that appealed to me. I hate beaches.

It struck me that the video is a little deeper than beaches and hot girls.

"Ask me what I did with my life": sit in my house and order things online

the extreme hipster-ish, dorky appearance of the guy: sheltered, soft, inexperienced

the 'Blase Boys Club' company name: bla·sé -apathetic to pleasure or excitement as a result of excessive indulgence or enjoyment

the shots of him looking ridiculous as he sticks out his tongue wearing a helmet: highlights the fact that none of what he is experiencing is real and the absurdity of how intensely he's enjoying it

the way he kisses the helmet at the end: he is not motivated to actually go do those things and is instead content with experiencing them through a virtual reality in the comfort of his home

Seems like a reflection and critique of a culture that gets adventure through video games, socializes through social media, and looks at white sand beaches on Pinterest, etc.

RE: Ask Me What I Did With My Life - Fantastic video/song
@Enigma - I didn't pick up on that. Wasn't paying attention properly!

Anyway - It is an interesting concept for a video since it has the same concept as one of the most famous thought experiments in philosophy. It was described by the American philosopher, Robert Nozick back in 1974.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Experience_machine

Quote:Nozick asks us to imagine a machine that could give us whatever desirable or pleasurable experiences we could want. Psychologists have figured out a way to stimulate a person's brain to induce pleasurable experiences that the subject could not distinguish from those he would have apart from the machine. He then asks, if given the choice, would we prefer the machine to real life?

Nozick also believes that if pleasure were the only intrinsic value, people would have an overriding reason to be hooked up to an "experience machine," which would produce favorable sensations.

Now that I think about it. It is the sort of idea which prefigured 'The Matrix' films (although Descartes' demon is the main influence for that film). Anyway - it is an interesting thought experiment. Since Robert Nozick came up with it as a way of arguing against those who believe pleasure is the ultimate purpose of life.

Personally - I would be tempted to spend my life in such a machine. To me the divide between pleasure created by reality and an artificial stimulus is almost arbitrary.

Still - I always thought that Robert Nozick used the experiment as a way of trapping those who thought 'the pleasure machine' is a good thing. Since such a position isn't too different to arguing that a life spent high on drugs is better than a life not spent on drugs.

But equally - what about the pleasure provided by artificial stimuli like video games, movies and music? Are they bad things as well?

Nevertheless - as distant as this gedanken may be. It is actually a dilemma which each of us faces - on average - about once per month.

Ever woken in the middle of a great dream - and wished you could immediately go back to sleep and re-enter the dream? Well - that is pretty analogous to the above thought experiment. And to the experiences of the guy in the music video at the start of this thread.

I thought the video was one long troll on IRT's.

I liked that video a lot.

It was a reminder for me that it is important to make time to enjoy life's transcendental pleasures.

Was that guy Indian? I thought he was mulatto at first.

I did notice he has a thing for white girls.

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe.
To be your own man is a hard business. If you try it, you'll be lonely often, and sometimes
frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself." - Kipling
