False Paternity rates about 1-2%
An anthropologist writes that fears of mass false paternity are overblown, and are basically never above 1-2%.

Occasionally rates as high as 10-20% of the population being products of false paternity had been reported. He calls these claims bullshit.

The numbers I see and hear vary, but 10% is a low bound."

Uuuh. 1-2% sounds like a disaster to me. I'm getting any babies checked three times before I even admit I had sex with the women. Wife or not.

While I believe the 1-2% figure is true, it is still unacceptably high. If we follow this route for rape reports (being strict and counting only actual, confirmed cases), about 2% of women will be raped in their lifetimes, and look at how much furor that causes.

RE: False Paternity rates about 1-2%
Ja, 2-4% (in societies with birth control) has always seemed more reasonable to me than the 10% often stated. But you need to do a proper study to get the true numbers, and I don't see a general population study for this being funded. Basically because society has an interest in denying that false paternity is an issue at all. An individual man's interest in knowing runs counter to the states interest so he must look out for himself.

Even if it's as low as 2% I still think it means that every new father out there has to have a paternity test done before "signing the papers", or fully accepting a newborn as his child. I realise this is...difficult, but it's much better to uncover this sort of problem right at the beginning rather than waiting years when it would cause near catastrophic family and psychological issues.

It is also fucks up your family tree - for those of you who enjoy researching such things.

Best to stick with the mother's side of the family when tracing back your ancestry.

I recall reading somewhere that while the average is 1%-2% it varies very wildy across different sub populations in North America.

Basically the more poor and lower educated the social subgroup the higher the false paternity rates.

Also, the more suspicious the husband is, the higher the % of false paternity - shocker!

And lifestyle habits matter too - some guys swing with their wives and are SHOCKED, SHOCKED they tell you she had kids by another man!!

Though the worst case I heard was about a woman who went swinging behind her husband's back - 4 out of 5 kids were NOT his. Confused Sad

RE: False Paternity rates about 1-2%
Am I missing something on his blog or has he just pointed out that our sperm plug protein isn't active and that among those men with high paternal confidence the rate is low. Well so what? That can be disregarded due to the same bias he uses to downplay the 28% fraud rate among men with low paternal confidence.

What's the aggregate? How many are in each group? Now all I know is that the rate is somewhere between 3 and 28 %, this article is junk. Make paternal testing mandatory for men and women to prevent fraud and mistakes at the hospital and then we'll know the rate for certain.

I haven't read the study that mentions that it's only around 1-2%, but I can tell you for sure that the mention of 10% and higher seems to be legit. I know that the footnotes of this study are contained in a book called Sperm Wars by Robin Baker. This book has been totally discredited by the scientific community in England by the common ground that most women are only monogamous ( ya right ...please!!)

The author of this blog is exceedingly "red pill", and in fact often linked to by Heartiste, etc.

He is 100% not shilling for feminism, nor promoting a myth that all females are monogamous.

He is a scientist, and stating plainly that there is no real evidence for such high false paternity rates as have been reported.

Sperm Wars has often been treated as more pop-science than real science. I am not equipped to decide, but the author references the book and why he does not believe it.
