German men 'lust after female earners'

Financially independent, smart women trump beauty when German men look for partners, a study released on Wednesday suggested. This has meant the country's young adults delay starting a family – and not always out of choice.

The Social Science Research Centre Berlin (WZB) asked 2,000 men and women in 2007 on their life plans. Last year, 211 of these men and 290 of the women were re-visited to see what had changed.

The most recent study, published in Brigitte magazine, found that more than two thirds of men expected their partner to be financially independent. In 2007, only half found this important.

“Blonde, cute and quiet no longer cuts it,” said Brigitte Huber, editor-in-chief of the magazine. “A man wants a woman who he can show off in public. A clever woman is the new status symbol for a man.”

Seventy-six percent of men said having a partner without a job was out of the question, while 45 percent said they wanted a woman who earned a serious amount of money.

Yet men not only said they wanted a career woman, but also a partner that wanted to have children. Just a third of men said they would be willing to take a career break to help with a newborn, so this meant shifting responsibility to the mother.

Jutta Allmendinger, who led the study, said: “Smart is the new sexy.” She added that women were increasingly delaying having a family and putting a career first. “Children are an add-on” she told newspaper the Süddeutsche Zeitung.

Results from the study five years ago showed that 92 percent of women said they wanted children. Five years later, only 42 percent of these women have actually had children, with many saying they were too worried that it would negatively affect their career.

These concerns are reflected in Germany’s birth rate which is one of the lowest in Europe.

Over 80 percent of women said that they thought they would regret not having children in the future. But half said they could imagine having none at all.

Homeownership or driving an expensive car are the typical ways to signal wealth in Germany.

In a first tier city such as Frankfurt or Düsseldorf, privately owned homes go for an average of 410K EUR, which works out to about 570K USD. Note that we are not even talking about a single family detached home here, just a condo or a terrace housing unit.

To be able to buy one of these, you will need 20-25% down, which for a single earner would mean saving roughly 12K EUR per year for 10 years. A double income no kids power couple can slash that time to 5 years or less.

Also, considering that in a first tier German city, it is very unlikely for a man to be earning enough money be able to save 1000 EUR a month before the age of 25- more realistically 30 or even 35- even if you are a top 5% earner you simply need that second high earning cash cow if you want to have a chance at owning a reasonably sized home for your family while you are still young enough to have a family and young enough to be able to pay off a 30 year mortgage on the home before you hit retirement, and maybe be able to own a car, and maybe even take vacations once in a while...

So, if you live in one of these cities and do not have this German power fräulein lined up by the time you are about 35 and/or have not yet managed to accumulate your 50-100K, you can kiss the picket fence goodbye. That is essentially the deal and German men's search behavior is informed by these underlying economic incentives. They know what it is that they have to bring to the table to be able to get and keep a woman to have a family with, and reasoning backwards from this point, they know what it is that the woman has to bring to the table for it to ever happen.

Pertaining to women, I'm not sure how you "show off" that you're financially independent. If I see a woman driving an expensive car, I have no idea if she bought the car or if her husband did. So I'm just confused as to how a man would "show off" to the public that his girl is the financial earner.

What they mean is, nobody wants a lazy woman at home while children are in kindergarten or school, who in case of divorce will still be at home and reap in the ex-husbands income. They took some measures against that for the longterm but.....
"Zahlvater" = dad that is not seeing his children, despite him paying child support.
It's the same game like in the US.
And as the divorce risk declines indirect proportional to her education, cute but dumb women do not make a good longterm prospect.

Sure you'd take her, but will she stick around if you can't provide her with the sort of lifestyle that she expects?

Starting at a commute radius of about 1 1/2 hours around the main economic powerhouse zones such as Hamburg, Munich, Frankfurt and so forth, many places are starting to see an annual population decrease of about 1-2%.

These are the young people who are bailing out of the sticks and flooding into the first tier German cities, where the women become know-it-all German career fräulein narcissistic queen bitches and the men are left to jostle for these entitled attentions of these insufferable stervas in the eternal sausagefest of the spotless mind that is the sorry condition of the SMP in these cities.

She is not telling men what to want, she is objectively describing the situation. It is no different than saying that American men desire fat women. It is simply an objective truth. Non red pill men will by and large want what is on offer, so saying that men now want this and that is basically just a roundabout way of describing how the women happen to be at any given place and time.

I'm calling BS on this 'study'.

A quick check on wikipedia shows that this is Germany's largest "women's" magazine. So it's probably just pushing feminist nonsense.

Men still want an attractive partner, no matter how much feminists try to push the notion that their job (or whatever suits them) is more important. As far as women are concerned, as stated above, they don't even know what they want, so I'm not trusting that they gave honest answers. That, and I bet the questions were asked in a manner to get the answers desired.

If a man wants a woman he can show off in public, blonde and cute certainly does cut it, not some woman who defines herself by her job. The only point I partially agree with is that nowadays women should have some sort of job/income since it's hard to get by on one income. But I'll take the pretty secretary over the executive built like a linebacker every time.

My ex was a pharmacist. I got a shitload of present from her. If a girl is head over heels into you, she will give you everything. I felt bad about this after a while, but she seemed happy to take care of me, so... well, it was good until it lasted.

But I did not like her because of the money, but because she was cute and feminine. Everything else was a bonus, but overall money does nothing to my boner.

1. Do you like money?
2. Do you hate stupid people?
3. Do you lust after some women?
And get a hamster conclusion that "all men love smart women with money".
