I wrote some poetry and I'm working on a short story at the moment. I'm curious as to what magazine would have the best chance to get my work published. I got a poem published once in my college so I'm assuming I am doing something right with some of my writing. Any tips or recommendations?

These sites essentially have huge indexes of literary journals and calls for submissions, among other things, duotrope even has average response times and other useful statistics. The main thing is to find places that seem to share a common vision with your own writing. Be sure to at least scan the online archives of journals you're considering to get a feel for what kind of work they publish. If you let me know what kind of stories/poems you're looking to submit I'll be able to help you out more. Don't expect to get paid at this point, either.

First person narrative on both my short story and poems. Both are about one character that faces many struggles in his life. Think Bukowski and you'll see what i mean. But they take on another perspective not just drinking and fucking, although they are a part of my character's traits. Noir realism is the best i can describe it.
