WINTER HAVEN, Florida – When a stranger tried to break into the Pena family home, the Penas were ready for him.
“If this guy would’ve stayed home, he’d have been alive right now,” a neighbor told Fox 13 Orlando.
Early Monday morning, the Penas woke to the sound of 40-year-old Mitchell Large trying to break into their Winter Haven home through a porch door. Undeterred by a warning shot, Large burst into the kitchen.
There, three family members – a father, a mother, and their son – were waiting for Large. All three of them were armed.
The family then opened fire on the intruder. “It appears at least two of the family members fired in defense of themselves and their property,” said Police Chief Gary Hester.
A fourth family member, the Penas’ 20-year-old daughter, was also in the home but did not witness the shooting. Investigators say that, while Large does not appear to have been armed, the Penas had every right to defend themselves.

If an intruder comes onto my property with any sort of ill intentions, I'm taking his life and feeling just fine about it.

Wooohooo! At least some parts of this country still view this as a good thing. I'm sure if this was to happen in a more progressive state they'd view the family as some sort of maniacs and paint the burglar as a victim.

Imagine if the situation was like in Tarantino's movies where he runs into kitchen and they are waiting. After ten seconds of nervous silence, they tell him to sit down and proceed to talk about the moral aspect of what made him do this sort of things. Just when he gets some hope that they just wanted to get to know his reasons to teach him a verbal lesson and he apologizes, they stop him and say that it isn't how it works in this home, the son approaches him and puts a gun on his head telling him that the intruders were traditionally shot in their family so he can't fail the tradition in front of his mother and father and someone must die. They have a dilemma now. The father decides to give the intruder his personal revolver and tell him to have a good old fashioned standoff with his son so whoever gets killed will die with honor. As the intruder takes the revolver he immediately starts to fire it in panic randomly at three of them, without waiting for a standoff preparation to occur. It's empty and all he hears are clicks as he figures out that he is fucked now. The father tells him that he predictably had no honor or respect and that's the reason every single robber was shot in the past by their family. They proceed to spray bullets and buckshot at him tearing him apart while the country music plays in the background.

The sheriff and the investigators are a part of another chapter that intersect with this one, where he finds out that the robber had a gun next to him, but as he recognizes the revolver as the family father's one he decides to keep it away from official report because he owed that family a favor from yet another chapter.
