Was watching some cool documentaries on Youtube about contractor jobs in Iraq, Afghanistan and other areas. Stumbled upon one where they interviewed this contractor Jonathan Idema aka Jack Idema. guy has a fascinating story, I guess he was a Green Beret or some type of special forces, was convicted of fraud back in the 90's, many runins with police. I guess after 911 he flew to Afghanistan solo and basically just started making connections doing his own things and trying to earn reward money for caputring taliban and getting the rewards.

I guess he was eventually arrested by Afghans who said he was operating a private military and torturing terrorists in his backyard. US sorta denied having anything to do with him though they have acknolwedged taking his calls and interrogating some guys he's picked up.

He lived pretty well in Jail special cooked meals, booze, etc. The guy is definatley a blowhard during the interview was telling the interviewer he's not in jail if he wanted he could have a thousand northern alliance soldiers show up and kill everyone and free him in an hour, he's being politicala nd serving his sentence.

I guess he was eventually pardoned by Karzai and moved to Mexico where he flew a pirate flag above his house, ran fishing charters and had orgies. He eventually died of aids.

Just watched this documentary a little earlier this afternoon while bored at work, guy seems to be a pretty fascinating guy with a crazy life. I guess he has a book called The Hunt for Bin Laden but the reviews seem subpar. Still pretty fascinated with this guy, reading a rolling stone article about him now. I'm gonna see if there's any other books about the dude. Just found it to be pretty interesting.

I remember hearing about the guy 10 years ago and thinking that he probably had some good leads since they jailed him. It wasn't politically convenient at the time to bring down bin Laden
