I need a new travel bag. Something that can hold enough for like 2 weeks.

Im thinking that the duffel bags with wheels are the best bet.

Anyone know which ones are the best? Sleek, sturdy, practical ect

When I went on my first trip abroad for 3 weeks back in 2001, I bought a Maestro wheeled backpack that I still use to this day even though it's now showing its age.

Mine isn't the same model, but still somewhat similar. I love it. You get the advantages of a backpack and the convenience of a rolling suitcase into one.

I bought an REI bag about 8 years ago for my first Europe backpacking trip and the baby is still going strong. The construction of the bag is incredibly strong, so even though it might cost just a little more, you're going to get a lot of utility out of it.

I haven't checked them out for a while, but i researched gear like this a lot a few years ago. Back then, Eagle Creek made some good bags that you're describing. I have a regular E.C. bag, and some broke the lock+zipper to steal something when the back was in transit during a flight. I sent it to Eagle Creek for repair, and the ended up replacing the bag for free. Pretty nice service when you consider that having the bag broken into has nothing to do with a manufacturers defect.

I've had one of these for a few years. You may be able to pick it up in a tactical store in Fayetteville. It's held up well and is within airline regs.

I did, and I barely even used it. I can see it being useful in a few situations like on an overnight bus or train where someone could easily just walk out with your bag after you doze off. But that's about it.

I haven't tried that. I stupidly packed a digital camera, albeit a cheap one, in my checked luggage (from the US - S. America). When it arrived, the zipper had been broken and the camera was gone. Incidentally, i believe that the theft occurred in the US.

be careful if you are checking it - get one that doesnt weigh very much because if you go over the 50 lb limit they airline whacks you w/fees, so the less weight you start off with the better you are

Warning: it's oversized for most carriers, and when full will probably be overweight. It's huge though, and will definitely fit plenty of clothes and extra pairs of shoes.

what do they charge you if its oversize? seems like that can get expensive if you travel often

Usually $50 for oversized and $50 for overweight.

I actually don't fly often since I plan trips where I'm visiting neighboring countries (I can take the bus or train). In mainland europe I don't see myself taking many flights. Even if I take 4 flights in a year, that's $200-400 in extra charges to travel comfortable. That's more than worth it to me. It depends on what you need to live abroad for a long period of time without getting homesick for shit that you could've just packed.

LL Bean has good quality roller duffels. I have one and it's awesome. Check out the rolling adventure series.
