I have become very good at figuring out what sort of books win the Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction.

To prove it - I am going to go out on limb and predict what this years winner will be.

It is a memoir by a brain surgeon called 'Do No Harm'. I have bought a copy but have not read it yet. But already I can tell it will be my pick as the winner for this years Pulitzer Prize for non-fiction.

I predicted the winner for 2011 and 2012.

And that has given me the confidence to trust my gut instinct in this area.

I read a lot of books - and often find myself reading books that go on to be nominated for The Pulitzer Prize.

The list of winners and nominations over the years is a pretty interesting one. It is a good list for finding books to read:

I will stick by my prediction. The book I mentioned will only be allowed entry for the 2015 Pulitzer Prize.

But - I just looked up the rules and found out that only US citizens can win the Pulitzer Prize. I must be an idiot because I never realised that!

And the book I mentioned is written by a British surgeon. So it cannot win.

Definitely an idiot. That is what I am.

I will have to figure out a better guess - with an American author this time! But I don't like doing that - since I find my best predictions are the ones that strike me at random - and not the ones I go searching for.

To me that is the difference between gut instinct and a lucky guess.
