Thank God for Kareem. I thought I was in the minority for thinking this broad was sleazy. Is the owner an asshole? In my opinion, yes. But I think this chick is worse. At the end of the day you never say anything to a woman that you don't want repeated in public.

Abdul-Jabbar explains that we’re witnessing a veritable “finger-wagging Olympics . . . all over the latest in a long line of rich white celebrities to come out of the racist closet.”

“Yes, I’m angry, too,” Abdul-Jabbar admits, “but not just about the sins of Donald Sterling. I’ve got a list.”

That list includes Sterling’s girlfriend, V. Stiviano, whose voice is heard on the racially-loaded tape and who likely set the Clippers’ owner up.

“Man, what a winding road she led him down to get all of that out,” he mocked. “She was like a sexy nanny playing ‘pin the fried chicken on the Sambo.’ She blindfolded him and spun him around until he was just blathering all sorts of incoherent racist sound bites that had the news media peeing themselves with glee.”

And speaking of the news media? “They caught big game on a slow news day,” Abdul-Jabbar explained, “so they put his head on a pike, dubbed him Lord of the Flies, and danced around him whooping.”

The former NBA all-star, who played for the Milwaukee Bucks and L.A. Lakers from 1969 to 1989, has no sympathy for Sterling. But he is upset that everyone is acting so surprised, noting that the NBA owner has said offensive comments in the past and has been sued over both housing and employment discrimination.

The NAACP “did nothing” after Sterling was forced to pay a staggering $3 million fine for denying housing to Blacks, saying they “smell, and attract vermin,” Abdul-Jabbar noted. They were even going to present Sterling with an NAACP award on May 15th, with the Rev. Al Sharpton on hand. “Suddenly he says he doesn’t want his girlfriend posing with Magic Johnson on Instagram and we bring out the torches and rope. Shouldn’t we have all called for his resignation back then?”

Abdul-Jabbar is correct, but it is worse than that. The NAACP accepted multiple grants from the Donald T. Sterling Charitable Foundation and handed Sterling several “image awards” — despite full knowledge of his prior, massive fine for discrimination against Blacks in his slumlord housing.

Abdul-Jabbar, perhaps channeling his closet libertarianism, also blasted the fact that Sterling’s private conversation — however racist — was suddenly broadcast nationwide.

“Didn’t we just call to task the NSA for intruding into American citizen’s privacy in such an un-American way?” he asked, comparing the secret tape-recording to Mitt Romney’s embarrassing 47 percent remark, recorded without the then-candidate’s knowledge.

“The making and release of this tape is so sleazy that just listening to it makes me feel like an accomplice to the crime,” Abdul-Jabbar fumed. “We didn’t steal the cake but we’re all gorging ourselves on it.”

“So, if we’re all going to be outraged,” the former NBA star wrapped up, “let’s be outraged that we weren’t more outraged when his racism was first evident. Let’s be outraged that private conversations between people in an intimate relationship are recorded and publicly played. Let’s be outraged that whoever did the betraying will probably get a book deal, a sitcom, trade recipes with Hoda and Kathie Lee, and soon appear on ‘Celebrity Apprentice’ and ‘Dancing with the Stars.’”

Kareem hit the nail on the head.

People often forget that the media drives the side of the story that will produce revenue. I used to run cameras at a local news station and the reporters would always make me sick. Every tragedy was "bittersweet" for them because they were "sad" for the victim they didn't know, but the story could always launch their career. If you have any reporter friends on facebook, you will know exactly what I am talking about. When it comes to public analysis, they never read the entire story for context. They just glimpse over the summary and then come up with their b.s. talking points.

First, let me say that I hope Sterling loses the Clippers. No room or place for his nonsense. Kareem is spot on.
Having said that - One thing.

Is it just me or is she an idiot. I mean she talks like an idiot - questions and voice and all. If she is an immigrant, well my apologies disregard my comment.

The whole thing is bizarre - if you really don't like blacks, I figure the last thing you'd do is own an NBA basketball team. Own a country club or something (maybe he couldn't because he's Jewish? Lol). He sounds pretty nutty. Usually I'd say if someone's racist, it won't matter too much if they're just left to their own devices (eg how I feel about Mel Gibson and Jews), but he's got a lot of power to fuck with people he hates, so it's inappropriate for him to remain a team owner.

The media wants to hold up this attention whore as some hero, but she was profiting from him. If he's so evil, shouldn't she be too by extension?

It's also a good lesson - a chick, especially a Latina, can act as if she's all lovey dovey with you and then hoist you by your own petard (kill you with your own weapon).

Not condoning what he did, but from a purely strategic perspective, he'd have been better off giving a much more generic explanation, eg ask her to stop posting personal pictures on Instagram in general.

Unless I'm asked I typically don't say anything when the media runs a racial story. I know they're not doing it for my benefit, or enlightenment. They're doing it to sell air time/ ad time and drive a wedge.

Edit: He should never had said that shit in the first place. But at least there is some movement on getting rid of him. Besides the racial stuff (WHICH IS SUPER SERIOUS), for years he ran the Clippers cheaply. Like he didn't care to win.

At least IMO...he was cheap as balls not wanting to pay his talent while sitting on fat profit margins for decades full well knowing ppl in LA are going to attend basketball games regardless. This is pretty similar to how Don Carter ran the Dallas Mavericks early-mid 90's before selling it off to Ross Perot Jr (who was better) before Mark Cuban eventually took over. As far as losing the team goes. While it creates some issues with personal property rights and having something taken that a person owns.

But for me it just seems strange to hate the people that have created you wealth. Discriminating solely on color. I tend to have a personal issue with people who are selfish and don't think about the common good. He is damaging the NBA brand now. If the NBA lets him stay I think this would harm the popularity of the sport and it's finances. This creates huge disharmony.

I think this is a bad decision though as Mark Cuban pointed out. While I have no sympathy for Sterling at all, I can't help but feel that we're seeing yet another 'thought crime' being carried out. First it was the Mozilla CEO who was fired for anti-gay sympathies, now this. The natural question is: What is next? anti-gay, racist.... anti-feminist? You know it is coming, some high level person will lose his business or job for making 'anti-feminist' thought crimes. Then what is next? We can't say, because there will always be some shit, that can create a social outrage. I do think we are seeing a real trend here.

Personally, I thought the rumors that all Clipper players would be free agents would be a much better, free market solution. Let Sterling see that his actions have consequences when he can't set a team next year, then he would be forced to sell anyway. This way only feeds into the fire that is giving media the right to fire and destroy people.

Kareem nailed it. Sterling's a racist idiot, but I don't like Gotcha Culture. It pisses me off to see mainstream commentators white knight for this whore. She committed a crime by illegally recording their conversation. I'm not a racist, but I'm guilty of joking around in a raunchy, anything goes, nothing sacred manner with my friends over text. I haven't fallowed this case closely, but the trend that's currently going on is not a good one! It's funny how being a member of this forum and being aware of the current social trends can make you see things in a different light. I've read his comment and... it's not the racism that jumped at me, but how stupid he is for being a Billionaire associating himself with a ratchet hoe that I could get by working minimum wage??

This is a perfect example of why game is necessary my friends! And fellow RVF members, this girl is not a bitch, she's a ratchet hoe!! The way I see it is, there's a lot of intolerance here.

Liberals are the most intolerant people around who feign tolerance for all minorities, races, gays, and those it's running around.

Yes, well the issue is the "right to free speech and free thought" has been superseded by rampant consumerist capitalism where everything is only to make a buck.
