A US soldier searches for his Vietnamese son
http://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-27159697

Quote:Thousands of children were fathered by American servicemen during the Vietnam war. Now in their 60s and 70s, some veterans are desperate to find the sons and daughters they have never known.

Some things are best left in the past.

This type of venture is unlikely to bear any fruit that is without bitterness and pain.

Life can be cruel sometimes.

But I see this type of sentimentality as ill conceived.

I think it is a combination of things best left in the past and too little too late. Probably the former caused by the latter in no small part.

I was helping a half Filipina/half black American woman find her father. The results weren't encouraging, looked like he was dead from the records search.

I have a half-brother or sister in 'Nam that my dad fathered during his tour in 'Nam that've I've never known that's in their 40s and sometimes I'm curious about meeting him/her but what would be the point? It'd be no different than meeting some random stranger.

That my dad doesn't care about him/her doesn't help things either...

It struck me as so indicative of America's imperialist tendencies. We fight foreign wars, invade countries, fuck the women and leave.

Don't think there will be many Pashtun or Iraqi kids fathered by American occupiers though.

Witness is unresponsive. Housemaid types are obviously imported.

So what kind of reaction did the Vietnamese women have towards men twice their own native mens size? Was it a question of bigger is better game?

More primal than that. They had guns and could kill you and your family. I'm sure some VC and NVA benefited from that game, too.

Plus chance to go to the Big PX.

Plus they had $$$ compared to the Vietnamese.

If westerners have an appeal now, consider the 1970s, when America was more or less as rich as it is now, and the developing world had hardly started developing.

Bitch thought she won the lottery.

The sad fucked up thing is, the guy in the picture and story would be considered "beta" by today's modern Western women.

Instead of a sexy Vietnamese piece, he'd have a white whale pushing babies around the commissary and base housing.

Thus is what I witnessed with similar doe-eyed skinny guys in the military who had wives literally 2-3x their size.

Are still a lot of these Amero-Asian kids (now in their 40s) in Vietnam, or have most of them been sent to be adopted in the US?

That shit doesn't fly with them..they're not gonna let their women anywhere near Americans:

Iraqi father proud of daughter's 'honour killing'

Quote:Abdel-Qader Ali claimed the 'honour killing’ was supported by local police, and said his only regret was that he had not killed his daughter at birth.

Rand Abdel-Qader, who was studying English at Basra University, was stamped on, suffocated and stabbed by her father, with help from her two older brothers.

It was deemed she had brought shame on her family by falling love with the soldier, known only as Paul, as she chatted to him a few times while working as a volunteer with refugees. She died on March 16, after her father discovered the pair had been seen talking in public.
Abdel-Qader, 46, a government employee, was released from police custody after just two hours, and claims officers congratulated him on what he had done. “They are men and know what honour is,” he said.

Speaking at his home in Basra’s Al-Fursi district, he told a Sunday newspaper: “Death was the least she deserved, I don’t regret it. I had the support of all my friends who are fathers, like me, and know what she did was unacceptable to any Muslim that honours his religion.”

Abdel-Qader, who remains a free man, threw Rand’s body into a makeshift grave as her uncles spat on it in disgust.

He went on: “I don’t have a daughter now, and I prefer to say that I never had one. That girl humiliated me in front of my family and friends. Speaking with a foreign soldier, she lost what is the most precious thing for any woman.

“People from western countries might be shocked, but our girls are not like their daughters that can sleep with any man they want and sometimes even get pregnant without marrying. Our girls should respect their religion, their family and their bodies.

In my opinion attitudes towards westerners are very different in Middle Eastern and South Asian countries versus East & SE Asian countries. It seems that many east Asians think of western culture as something to aspire to, whereas many in the middle east and south Asia many people think of western culture as being degenerate and try to limit its influence in their societies. This extends to the amount they're willing to have their women interact with foreigners.

RE: A US soldier searches for his Vietnamese son
I have a half sister my father had with a girl he dated before marrying my mother. Must be in her 40s now. I also don't really see what the point would be in seeking her out. Other than genes, I have no common history with this girl. I've wondered, sometimes what became of her, but I given that the woman's mother was a prostitute with a drug problem, I doubt she's doing all that well.

Disclamer: I am not the Sargon of Akkad from Youtube and I have no relation whatsoever to that person...also, I don't give a shit about videogames.

We probably all have half brothers and sisters floating around out there.

That is if our fathers were anything like us.

RE: A US soldier searches for his Vietnamese son
It's known that my father cheated. I probably have other half siblings I don't know about besides that one woman.

I remember seeing these reality shows or documentaries where someone spends years looking for their estranged half brother or sister or whatnot. Each time there's this dramatic scene where the person in question locates their long lost relative, knocks on their door, give them the big reveal, and suddenly the two are reduced to tears, drool and snot.

Call me heartless, but if some long lost relative came knocking on my door and started blubbering all over me, I'd likely feel a bit creeped out and think to myself "Nice to meet you and all, but I think you need to get the fuck outta here. Let's be facebook friends."

Yep!

"Add me on facebook, maybe we will go for a beer sometime if I am in the area" is about as far as I would go.
