Laughing at your own jokes
I've always found this one a bit "eh." Let's say I say something that gets everyone laughing, then can I laugh at my own joke?

I agree that ALWAYS laughing at your own shit is obnoxious, but are the exact rules about this?

I'm a pretty dry-humored guy, so I often say stuff with straight faces. But I have recognized that if you're with a girl and you DON'T laugh at your own jokes, she'll often think you're serious. Laughing is never a problem unless you're the only one.

I laugh at my own jokes because I' m fucking awesome, and they are an extension of me.......
But Renberg is on to something. Depending on who you're with determines if you smile or laugh when you tell a joke. If you start off a dirty joke with a smirk or a sly grin it can loosen a person up.

RE: Laughing at your own jokes
I always chuckle when I make a joke because the shit I say is fucking funny. I don't bust a gut laughing but I often follow up my jokes with a "heh heh heh" when I'm finished saying it.

Remember, smiling and laughing is contagious and will better open women up to your advances.

RE: Laughing at your own jokes
I think this depends.

If you laugh at your own jokes because you are insecure, that's obviously going to have a negative effect. But if you're cool with yourself, with the people who are around you, and you find yourself laughing at things you say sometimes and enjoy doing it then that works well.

I've noticed myself doing both in the past, but recently it's been the latter. I'm cool with myself and sometimes I really enjoy the things I say so I laugh at them and I don't really care if other people care or not. It's been working great. I've also met other cool guys and have friends that laugh at their own shit and it's actually hilarious when they are comfortable with it, it makes them seem like a person with a cool personality and sense of humour.

RE: Laughing at your own jokes
If they're funny and people genuinely laugh, (not a courtesy laugh) go ahead and laugh. If it's a courtesy laugh, don't laugh. But always make it clear that you're joking, it warms people up to laugh at them more often. If your joke falls flat, just deal with it in a good way for that situation and move one.

RE: Laughing at your own jokes
Laughter is contagious, so sometimes if someone laughs at my joke I end up laughing because they laugh. But even if you don't laugh it's still best to show some emotion like a smile, grin, smirk, etc. depending on the type of humor.

RE: Laughing at your own jokes
As with most things game related, calibration is key. What's your personality like and what is your sense of humor like?

As an example, mine is one where I can be serious but I like to laugh and have a good time, never been afraid to smile. I definitely can appreciate the power of a good smirk or being serious/quiet, but when I'm having a good time I revert to some pretty cheesy humour or being fairly silly in general.

I have zero qualms about laughing at my own jokes. Sometimes the girl I'm dating says something along the lines of "Oh my god, you're SO cheesy/lame" and then she can't help but start laughing at me laughing at my own joke. She'll do the playful arm slap thing and try to pretend she thinks my jokes are lame by rolling her eyes but she can't resist the twinkle in my eye and my knowing that I could care less what she thinks of my jokes. Besides, most of the time she's laughing even while she's trying to call me out for my cheesy jokes.

If you're a more calm/serious guy, you'd probably want to do more like what's recommended in this thread. A half grin, smirk, or quick chuckle might be more congruent for you.

RE: Laughing at your own jokes
Hard to say, I think I strike strangers as reserved, intelligent and a bit cold. When I warm up to a person I tend to enjoy joking more often, but I have a stone face, so it can be difficult for some people to pick up on my humor.

I will be checking my PMs weekly, so you can catch me there. I will not be posting.
