I could definitely agree with the fact that Thai girls prefer skinny guys to Bulky guys.

When I'm carrying bulk I find I will rarely get attention in Bangkok and I have to take loads of initiative. Get shut down more too.

When I'm at my skinniest, I'll find that I will have girls virtually throwing themselves at me.

I find this pretty much reverses in Australia.

But bulk is a vague term. If you're somewhat lean with solid muscle mass they love it. If you're fat they won't.

Some girls will get intimidated my too big guys, I'm skinny myself and did great in Thailand. However I do think that with a perfect body I would do even better. I think it's more important to NOT be fat than to have muscles as Thai people are shaming fatties pretty hard, thank god.

That's what I said to her. I wrote exactly what she said to me. This has been a common theme that I've met with many of the Thai girls that I've come into contact with. I think it may be a generational thing as well. Thai men of generations past were probably very masculine. However, your average Thai male (Asian male for that matter) is very effeminate and meek.

What I wrote is the opinion of a hot 21 year old Thai girl. I ask her questions with the intent of putting her answers on the forum to help everyone.

No I am not a meat head. I'm very cut but fairly slim due to crossfit workouts although I am trying to get much bigger (aka meathead). She even teased me that I was a bit too small.

She then whipped out her phone to show me shirtless pics of an American guy from Miami that lives here in Chiang Mai that is obviously on steriods and that she went on a date with him but wouldn't fuck him because he was too big. She then said verbatum "Thai girls don't like really big muscled guys." She then went on to say that Chris Hemsworth was her hottest guy. CH is a pretty big guy so there is obvious contradiction in her statement.

Yes the highest SMV girls have there pick of the highest SMV Thai men here. I have not yet seen real top shelf Thai girls with non-Thai men. While hot, she did not grow up in the context of money, wealth, and family/societal influences which guided her decisions on what she likes. You could say that, due to a lack of these factors (money, wealth, social pressures) she is actually a perfect specimen of your average Thai girl who goes for what she actually wants free from outside influences. I wrote some observations about Thai men and women and the phenomenon of the "Toms" (butchy short lesbian Thai girls) getting really hot Thai women. I brought this up to another girl and she said, verbatum, "most Thai men are gay." I asked another girl and she said that "most of the 'Toms' come from wealthy Thai families" so they can get the hot Thai girls. Sweeping statements? Yes. Are they useful observations of actual Thai women and how they prioritize male (or in this case female) characteristics to meet their sexual imperatives. You bet!

You will also see many hot Thai girls with, yes, unattractive Thai men. In fact you will see many Asian girls with unattractive Thai men. This is due to the fact that provisioning ability of a man take the highest priority of women much earlier than the would in say, an American women. However, at an early age like 21 (the age of the girl I recently questioned) she is still in the phase where looks and only looks are of the highest priority. So if a girl can get her provisioning from an average-ugly Thai or Tom, then that is all she has to work with.

On a side note, I am currently reading Tomassi's Preventative Medicine. I read his first book which blew my mind and possibly saved my sex life and gave me some sanity as well. This new book is absolutely incredible and is a must read for all men.

I'll be in Thailand for about three weeks in December, how many days would you guys recommend checking Chiang Mai for? How much stuff is there to see and do (besides nightlife)? I would like to focus my time on Bangkok and the southern island for the remainder of my trip.

I was in Chiang Mai for 2 days recently and OG's suggestions are on point. However, I'm more of a big city guy and I found that my 2 full days were enough time to see everything although slightly rushed, 3 days would be ideal in my opinion.

Doi Suthep is the famous hillside temple that's a 45min taxi ride from central Chiang Mai. Highly recommend it as it overshadows all the other 10+ temples I saw throughout Northern Thailand in both size and grandeur. If possible go a few hours before sunset to explore and catch the sunset on the upper deck overlooking the city. There's a meditation center hidden a 10minute walk below the temples that I particularly enjoyed. Most taxi drivers should wait at least 1.5 hours for you within the round trip pricing, although I'm sure you could bargain for more.

I've heard good things about Pai but didn't go. Instead I went on a day long elephant washing/ziplining/rafting tour (rapids are small) for ~2000baht that was 90 minutes outside the city. On the way there, we stopped at an elephant poo ==> paper processing center , which for how random and atrocious that sounds was actually awesome. High quality notebook paper and a trollsy gift to give a few girls back home. Don't remember what the tour agency was called but it was all booked through the hostel I stayed at called Potae's House (not affiliated), which I highly recommend. It's on the northern edge of the square road that encompasses Chiang Mai. Relatively cheap, free breakfast, lots of AC to combat the humidity, and coolest people of any hostel crowd I've encountered yet. They only house 10-15 people at any time, so it has a family feeling and would be ideal mingling grounds for a solo traveler.

Night market for food that I believe is every weekend night was worthwhile. It's on the southern road of the square that encompasses the city. They sell everything from mango sticky rice, to pork intestine, to rice sausage, to durian. I stuffed up here every night for under 100 baht. The large market (1x/week?) for tourist goods was a bit disappointing. If you're into trinkets, you'll enjoy, but I didn't find anything substantial here.

Nightlife was also disappointing. All the bars closed at midnight (perhaps that's because I went in the offseason-September) and there's only 1-2 areas with enough people. Don't come here for the nightlife.

I split time between BK and CM, but spend more time in CM and in my opinion, Chiang Mai is not walkable; around 1 million people live in metro CM and it's definitely not small in area. The old city and further east to the Ping river is marginally walkable and where many tourists end up. I would recommend securing private transport for even the shortest visits to CM, or else you will miss out. Warning: The generalisimo and his current junta government has instituted draconian measures on Chiang Mai nightlife. Every bar and nightclub has been forced to shut down at 12am on the dot and when the local police refused to enforce this, they were promptly shipped out of town. I should probably keep this thread updated with respect to the now nonexistent nightlife.

Chiang Mai girls can be slightly aloof, but if you plan on moving here, which I think you are, it isn't that bad. It's definitely not as good as Bangkok, but you don't get the bad of having to sift through the freelancers and part time hoes. Not mentioned on any CM thread, but I improved my success immensely by learning some northern language (lanna). All of the locals speak lanna with each other on a daily basis and the girls will definitely be impressed if you can speak some northern.

You're right, time wasn't on my side. Staying for a week or longer will definitely maximize your chances.

Fell pretty deep into a hostel crowd, so didn't mingle much with local thais. Chiang Mai only has ~300K people, so not a target rich environment and there wasn't much talent on the streets. Ironically, I'd probably aim for tourists in chiang mai as there's a disproportionately large foreigner presence in the city considering how small it is and everyone has a nature/escape from Bangkok mentality that leaves a lot of foreigners extra receptive to hanging out. Out of the 2 approaches on Thai girls I remember, got the whatsapp of the girl working at a local smoothie shop (no time to follow up) and got denied by the girl that was my tour guide at the elephant poo factory.

Tinder was blowing up to a similar degree as in bangkok and a lot of girls seemed bored and eager to meet, but once again had no time to follow up.

Interesting. This makes me reconsider Chiang Mai as a place to move to for a couple of reasons. If the locals don't know English, I would have to learn their language since I'm a guest in their country.

But if their language is a tonal language, it is going to be very difficult for me to learn (as opposed to a non-tonal language like English or Spanish). So it's pretty important for me that they speak at least some English, especially if their native language is a tonal language. In that regard, the Philippines has a huge edge in that regard because it's an English speaking country.

The very low cost of living in Chiang Mai (as opposed to Bangkok or Manila) is very appealing, so I may at some point give it a chance. 3 months, and see if I like it. If not, I'll move. That's the great thing about being location independent.

I like Chiang Mai, but if girls are at the top of your criteria list you may want to reconsider. This is the biggest reason why I split time between BK and CM. The overall quality of girls in CM is markedly lower than Bangkok and they are less receptive. Actually you really cannot put Chiang Mai in the same conversation as Bangkok and Manila. That said if you are young and not afraid to approach you can have success. It's just not like Manila where the girls throw themselves at you. You also need to budget for a scooter/motorcycle. It is not realistic to live here without your own transportation. Only poor people and tourists use songthaews and tuk tuks. Taxis are flat fee and you can't easily flag them down; they will also rape you if it happens to be late at night or raining heavily.

Yup, agree. Come to CM to start an online business and to network, I don't think there's anywhere better in the world to get one off the ground.

But don't come for the girls, even if you like Thai chicks.

Since I have never operated a motorcycle, and even if I have, I'm not sure I would want to in a foreign country where traffic rules are pretty lax.

Sounds like I'm definitely going to have to really reconsider the idea of going to Chiang Mai longer than just a few months. My criteria for a semi-permanent place to live seems to be 1) passable English spoken by at least 50% locals, 2) receptive hot girls, 3) good internet, 4) reasonable cost of living, and 5) easy to get around safely.
