It was a beautiful sunny day in the college town I live in Northern California. I drove to the grocery store to do some shopping and as I got out of the car I was enjoying the sunny day and whistling to myself. By no means was I doing anything like the wolf whistle just random melodic whistling. In front of me a post wall mom and her hot daughter walked across the parking lot about 50 feet away. They both glanced in my direction with hostile suspicion, worried that I might be whistling at them!.

I just kept swaggering along like the late middle-aged fat guy that I am.

I am just checking in with Japan Airlines, which I prefer for the very sweet and well mannered workers. I was asking if I could simply check the weight on my suitcases and I noticed something wrong with the counter girls demeanor.

I see it! She was wondering why I was being standoffish, and she didn't hate me. I made an effort to smile and engage her in Eye contact, which typically causes a defensive suspicious reaction in American women. I could tell she immediately felt better being treated that way. I'm very glad to be getting out again.
