A great neg to use in every situation
I stumbled on a great neg a while back. I've used it in countless situations and has discovered it has a great many utilities. Funny thing is, I only really used it to shut women up. I didn't start using it to build attraction until I started getting "assaulted" after dropping the zinger.

Discovery scenario: I'm at my buddy's apartment and his ugly older sister was yapping about some new reality show or whatever the fuck it was. Anyway, her voice is loud, high pitched, and shrill and I wanted it to stop. So mid-sentence I looked her dead in the eye, raised an eye brow, furrowed my brow, and with the most judgmental of gazes I utter these 4 magical words:

"You should read more"

She shut the fuck up on the spot. Why'd this work so well? The statement itself implies lack of intelligence and/or the lack of desire to obtain it. It also implies that she's shallow (something girls clearly are not!) and uninterested in expanding her horizons. Lastly it insinuates that she is out of touch which is almost as bad as slutdom as far as they're concerned.

This little jab automatically puts women on the defensive and watching their butt hurt reactions is priceless. The results were so spectacular I thought I might be onto something so I decided to experiment with it. Below are snippets of actual conversations. Check it out:

Scenario 1: I'm in a conversation with a female friend about "why guys are dicks"...

Girl: It's like guys have no clue what women want!

Me: Why should we care?

Girl: Uh.....because you need us?
<question mark on the end to highlight that unmistakable condescending tone>

Me: <signature judgmental glare> You should read more

Silence. She looked at me with a confused look on her face and hasn't broached the subject with me since.

Scenario 2: I'm meeting a cutie I used to work with for a lunch date. We walk to the door of the restaurant where I (purposely) proceeded to walk in before her.

Girl: You don't hold doors for ladies?

Me: Huh?

Girl: <sarcastic chuckle> You have a lot to learn about women.

Me: <without looking back at her and not breaking stride> You should read more.

She playfully laughed, punched me in the kidney and called me an asshole. Then all lunch long she wouldn't shut up about all the books she'd read as a kid and ones she had on her wishlist on Google play. The rest is history. Even now she'll ask me if I've read any good books lately and this exchange happened nearly 3 months ago.

Scenario 3: I'm chatting up an attractive Latina at the 7-Eleven around the corner from my place. I build good rapport with her and escalate accordingly. The conversation moves to the parking lot and everything was solid until she starts snow flaking. I had to whip out the shiv.

Me: I'm hittin' this Thai place later on. Come with me.

Her: I don't go on dates with guys I've known for less than a week, sorry.

Me: <smirk> Well neither do I but you're a girl so I'll make an exception this time.

Her: <playfully laughs> Well I don't know you so.......

Me: You don't know who I am? <looking at her with a faux incredulous look>

Her: <smiling and playing along> No

Me: You should read more.

Got her number and set up the date. She flaked on me but insisted we meet that weekend which we did. We're now FWBs who love us some Pad Thai.

This is my go to neg in many situations. Delivery is very important but the context in which it's delivered doesn't even have to be relevant (Example #2) which makes this a swiss army knife type neg. Try it out and see what happens.

Paired with a bemused look or that judgmental gaze it can truly work wonders.

I suppose as long as she's not in med school or law school or some other college pursuit where she's already reading shit tons of school stuff.....this is a good one.

This is great.

It works even if she's reading overpriced textbooks for her shitty degree because she's still going to be on the defensive to try and justify all her reading. It's perfect.

Unless its ambiguous whether or not you're trying to be comedic, I'd imagine you'd just come across as being an asshole.

Yea, I like this too. Needs a little short pre-lude for most intensive delivery, yet I can't imagine a woman this wouldn't at least hiccup for laughs.

Hah this is genius, it puts a girl in a position where she has to prove herself after being subtly called out.

I'm thinking of great other responses:

"You should travel more"
"You should X more"

Great one, I've been using it for years... Any girl who watches reality TV but doesn't understand the topic of XYZ in conversation --- You should read more. Or, do you just read anime/Twilight/50 Shades? Lotsa tingles gained.

The best is when a girl sheepishly admitted the last book she read was 50 Shades. We had a good nite.

Sharpshooter, nice post. Delivery and tonality being so key, what is the underlying feeling behind the words? I'm sure you're not saying it in a MEAN way, but more like utter fascination with her?

Rock solid additions, including the "pick-a-word" one at the end. Mixing and matching in the lab should get pretty good results. <thumbs up>

Great question C.C. The underlying feeling depends on the context and situation. For example, if a girl is boring you to death with reality T.V. talk the feeling behind the words should be one of unpleasantness with a tinge of amusement. Your tone should match what you feel. In this case when you deliver the shiv, your tone should subtly tell her "Because you watch reality T.V. you could be unpleasant to be around and watching you yammer about it is quite funny." Girls pick up on EVERYTHING so when you deliver this line, it gets the hamster wheel spinning in overdrive.

RE: A great neg to use in every situation
this isn't bad. I sometimes use"you should exercise smarter" to girls that work out all the time. some of them don't even know that you need to give your muscles 48 hours to rebuild after lifting that muscle group.

Some even say "how do you know this?!" when I tell them. I don't even mean it as a neg for the most part, just an honest response sometimes in a given situation.

I can see the "you should read more" neg totally backfiring if the girl reads all the time. socially awkward bookworms can be fun to bang when they let their inner freak out.

If it backfires, there's always "Damn, girl... maybe you should read LESS!"

Smirk back in response and stay silent, or ask, what's the last real book you read? If she says, "50 Shades of Grey" or something by Daniel Steele, say, "Didn't you hear me, what's the last real book you have read?"

The reason I think this neg works is because most women are aware that they hardly ever read a real book and know that men do, because they see us reading actual books in the coffee shop all the time while they're busy checking their messages on their I-phones. It puts them in our frame instead of theirs.

RE: A great neg to use in every situation
I totally disagree.

You don't have to knock down someone to make yourself look and feel better. (applies to both gender)

Just go along with a conversation and she might realize she needs to read more. If she is into you and has a good personality, she will change her eyes to 'curious look' and focus on your speech like a student.
(BTW, it's so easy to go to a club and find someone you can outsmart right away. But what's the point? Will those girls in tight mini dress, will care about your knowledge?)

I don't care who you are but there always will be someone who's richer, smarter, stronger, better looking than you.

real rich people don't come up to you and say 'can you afford this?'
real smart people don't come up to you and say 'do you understand what I mean?'

When they display the qualities we admire in a subtle way, that's how they get the respect.

Yeah it is a bad thing.

In the OPs example with the latina at 711 was a good use (still not a neg), but where he was saying to use it as a verbal 'shiv' to shut women up is the exact opposite of both a neg and anything resembling panty wetting dialogue.

A lot of new guys don't get the difference between being a mean asshole and being a caring/nice asshole.

Mean Asshole: the use of insults and put downs to gain power over someone in an interaction.

Caring/Nice Asshole: standing your ground, being ambiguous in what you think of a woman, maintaining power by your actions whether it be through teasing, dread, etc. Ie. not being a supplicating 'beta'

No one is going to get their dick wet by calling someone a stupid bitch, but they'll get BJs for days doing the adult equivalent of pulling her hair.

That's exactly what you should do. She's not offended....she's snowflaking. She's trying to make herself look like a good girl and odds are she most certainly is not. And leave it at "you should read more" and leave off the "sense of humor" part. This ends the conversation and leaves hamster droppings all over her befuddled little brain. Just drop the line, and leave it at that.

I would customize it to come across more as cocky-funny and less condescending-funny-ish

You should read more men's magazines"

You should read more about human psychology

You should read more of the ....exercixse science published by the military's service academies/officer training schools

(OK the last one was a little wordy, but you get my drift)

I think customizing it is more likely to get her to ask you "Why?" in response, and then off you go demonstrating higher value with your unique, insightful, nuanced and sophisticated answer. Keeps the conversation going in a positive way
