RE: Career advice: Does money really help getting laid?
Short answer: Yes, money helps you get a laid a lot and gives you access to hotter girls. I didn't really start getting laid until I started making a lot of money. Having money solves a lot of game issues you might have.

3) start your own software company If it doesn't work out go to 1 or 2 above.

Yes. But you still need to be fly...

My advice is don't flaunt affluence (provided you have it) - go for the understated, monied look. It will not, however get you laid if you're competing with guys that have more alpha cred than you do in the same playing field.

Try working as a quant on Wall St if you can get in (not that I have experience doing it, but you should be able to get in with a quantitative PhD). Like other posters mentioned, you can always become a professor later on.

Life is not just about getting laid, it is also about getting paid. If you are successful, you'll earn your fuck you money while you are still relatively young, then you can choose to live wherever your want and have no boss. A 40 yo financially independent man can sleep with higher quality girls in an exotic country than s 25yo office drone living in the West.

For cold approach pick up, no, not significantly. Looks is the primary vehicle of attraction here. Taking roids and getting tats will do more for your success with 20-something bar sluts than talking about your wageslave job with "amused mastery" ever will. Pick your job for personal reasons and not how it will impress unless you're at a settling age.

I am inclined towards picking the one that's better in the getting laid department. Wall Street will give me pretty much three times the salary of a postdoc. Plus, from what I understand, a bank job is a high status job. A prof is perhaps also a high status job, but the job market in academia is quite fucked up and almost everyone waits for at least 3 years before getting a professorship.

If it's true that (1) is clearly better than (2) in the getting laid department, then it will make my decision very simple. Does anyone know which one of the two is better?

Which lifestyle do you think is cooler? Which one would you enjoy more?

Who cares about the money if you can't enjoy it?

We all have to pick a lifestyle we will enjoy. People who know what I do...would probably hate it. I love it. I know how some of these internet bloggers live...and I don't think I could do it.

To each his own! I digress...

Being a professor is whack. I wouldn't know...but I don't think there have been many playboy professors...especially in business.

I started this thread because the two careers seem roughly the same in all other aspects. Both have some pros and some cons, but none clearly outweighs the other.

More money: Wall Street
More girls: Wall Street
Living in NYC: Wall Street

Is there something I'm missing?

A bar isn't the best example, since a wealthy guy has more limited avenues through which to show off. However here is an example:
- He can dress according to this status.
- He can bring an entourage / bodyguard.
- He can park his fancy car at the bar, or if there is no parking, have his driver pull up for him and open the door for him.
- He can have unique bounce moves: "How about we go to X? I can have my driver take us".
- He can have better 'logistics'.
- His wealth can be communicated indirectly through his words, i.e. in talking about something else, he lets slip his company name, his position, his duties etc.
- He can show off things incidental to being a wealthy guy. For instance, wealthy guys are normally more savvy-intelligent and assertive than poor guys. Demonstrating intelligence does help a fair bit outside of places like Australia, sometimes surprisingly so.

You don't see many guys do this, so you can't really compare them with the tatted-muscle-morons. I'm guessing the latter would lose.

I don't money in and of itself, improves Game. It's what money can get a man: access to a better lifestyle, cooler hobbies, vacations, and cool toys to impress the wimmins with. Having a higher income and financial security can also help boost a man's self-confidence which effectively improves his game as well. But it's not like an automatic pussy increase when you get a $10,000 raise in your job, it's the added security and cool things you can do with that extra 10 grand that increase the quality and quantity of women you can obtain.

RE: Career advice: Does money really help getting laid?
This is my take on it, and I'm just talking from my own experiences.

I have a good job and when I first started, I tried to fit the position and the trappings that went along with it. I'd go out in nice sports jackets, pants, shoes, etc. Had a nice car...made a real effort.

Some women were impressed by those things, but those were pretty much just gold diggers. Yeah, they're easy to take advantage of but it gets old.

Now, I'll go out in designer sweat pants, Jordans, a t shirt, and the type of chicks that would try to play me then, gave it up easier.

I don't think showing money or wealth is a good idea unless you want to play gold diggers.

When it comes to getting laid, ultimately it's about if they're attracted to you and your social game.

If having money = showing off money, you're doing it completely wrong.

Money gives freedom. Money gives stability.

I don't think in the western world it will give you much of an advantage (unless you are in the top 10% income wise) but outside of it, that's literally all the game you need. Of course you will still need to approach and know how to close, but women will care more about the money you earn.

I've been a grad student and I've lived in NYC. Here's how to make the decision. Do you get laid enough at this university that you would do your Post-doc? If not go to Wall Street. Also you have no privilege on campus with any young coed that is in your class or has anything to do with the department. In today's world you'll get kicked out for sexual harassment. NYC has a lot of Wall Street gold diggers. So unless you're doing great at this university, you should head to Wall Street.

Wall Street first hands down.

Save your money should be priority #1.

Fuck caring about the status.

You know what status would be? Retiring early and having time to have a great physique, interesting hobbies, and travel.

As you get older, status and money come into play a lot more. Game will only take you so far if you are looking for high quality girls. If you are an older guy and want to date young hot women, status and money is the equalizer.

The best thing about money is that is enables flexibility. Do what you want, where and when you want to....

Regardless of what OP picks. Always remember money is not the end game. It's a means to an end. Screw retiring early if if means all I did was chase money to get there. Those kind of people start working again anyways and get greedy chasing money all there life. Money should be a means only.

Thanks everyone for the advice. Here's an update: I've ended up in Toronto for a while at one of the big Canadian banks. The job pays very well and I'm happy about it. Couldn't get to Wall Street because of visa issues. Will try again next year, or might try moving to the UK sometime. Anyway, I am in Toronto for at least the next few months. Let me know if you live in Toronto and are up for a beer sometime.

This is something I've pondered. How does this actually manifest itself? The hot women who aren't descended from the same aristocracy can't live there, so they'd have to come into these areas from the outside. Are there special parties reserved to resident men? If so how are these advertised to non-resident hot women alone? Or is it the case that the hot women are deliberately coming into these areas to hang out in cafes and bookstores etc and hoping they get approached by rich residents?

I posted a thread a while back about increasing one's money-making desire, and one of the theories I came up with was to "hang around in the affluent areas and see the women they get", but I've had little success spotting these such areas and the 'gathering places' therein. I'm guessing it's all underground and social circle based, but someone is still fulfilling the role of pulling new hotties into those social circles.

No big mystery. They get to know guys who live in those areas, and they do so by any number of social circle means including but not limited to modeling agencies, "escort" services, and hanging around high-tier clubs.

At all the dudes posting about gold diggers:

Do you even have enough gold have any gold diggers? Sounds like a bs excuse for the amount of money you do have, and a way to rationalize why you wouldn't want to have a lot of money.

They do not get money through osmosis. Obviously you can be weak and buy them expensive purses, and trips to paris, but that would still be your choice. If you are such a 'masculine dude who gets layed' why would gold diggers be a threat?
They wouldn't be.

Do the job that you will enjoy the most!

Perhaps try and get work experience in the type of banking jobs you are talking about in Wall street (Internship, I think you call it in the US) and see if you like the job. Maybe also do a post Doc and see if you like the academic life. Try both and see which you prefer.
