Bill Burr's "I'm Sorry You Feel That Way"
Around these parts, Bill Burr needs no introduction. His latest special "I'm Sorry You Feel That Way" is out now on Netflix (and other sites). After watching it, I'd recommend it. The best material is heavily weighted towards the end though.

The full special:

Don't know how long that link's going to last, so here's the official trailer:

The trailer doesn't give away the best bits, which in my mind were about the advantages of a smaller caliber gun and why Bill is never sleeping on the couch.

RE: Bill Burr's "I'm Sorry You Feel That Way"
I think Bill has peaked. This special is weaker than his last few.

Don't get me wrong, it's still funny. Very funny.

But it didn't stick with me like some of his previous did. And the way he sells some of the jokes just doesn't seem as natural. His stage presence is weaker.

This is nitpicking, as he's still one of my favorite comedians and puts out TONS of material. But at 46, it's pretty likely that we've already seen his "best" work at this point.

Agree that this was the weakest of his main ones.

The middle part with the religious themes just turned into venting more than great humour, jokes took a while to arrive and didn't hit as hard many times. My favourite part was the hypothetical adoption scenario. He's at his best when he doesn't stay on any one topic too long.

Disagree completely that comedians peak at a certain age. Comedy is not limited by age, many men have killed it well into their 50's, 60's, etc.

He's married now, I believe his peak is due to that (and the preceding relationship that led up to it). Most non RedPill guys lose a lot of fire when they start getting serious with a girl (even some of us do it). Might be the worst thing that happens to his career, which is a shame, because he was one of the guys who spoke the truth.

I saw the new special the night it was released (December 5) and agree that it's weaker than his last couple, though better than the ones before that. That's mostly a statement to how good his last two specials were. So declaring he's peaked after one somewhat less kick-ass performance is a little premature--a bit akin to saying a band is on the decline after an album wasn't as good as their previous gems.

It's possible that marriage has affected him (though he was virtually married to the same girl for years before he actually tied the knot), but I'd wait for another shitty special to make that determination. He's been spitting fire in other appearances, so it just seems like a one-off.

RE: Bill Burr's "I'm Sorry You Feel That Way"
I really enjoyed the special. It wasn't as edgy or red pill as his previous stuff but I think he was going for something different here and succeeded: Joe Rogan said it's the first special he'd seen that actually captured what it was like to see a comedian in person, as opposed to the typical special which is way over the top and not what it's like to go to an actual show. I think Burr is exploring some of the other aspects of comedy besides the pure honesty and anger aspect. This special was a lot more physical than his previous ones and I think it worked. The adoption bit was fucking hysterical. His podcast is as good as it's ever been - his take on the NFL domestic abuse stuff is dead on. I don't think we've seen the best of Bill Burr yet.

RE: Bill Burr's "I'm Sorry You Feel That Way"
Just watched the special on Netflix. Definitely worth watching; Bill Burr is one of the few comedians who can genuinely make me laugh.

As mentioned, not as strong as his first special but at the least have it playing in the background. Great stuff, especially his rant/philosophical musing on Scientology, Christianity, and death. Also his thoughts on Donald Sterling and how having kids delays your understanding of the social zeitgeist (you emerge after 25 years and say something you didn't know was racist/homophobic/prejudiced).

Like who? Which standup comedians were better in their 50s and 60s than their 40s?

I'm not saying the guy is going to suck from here on out, I'm just saying his standup may never reach that amazing level it was at in his other more recent specials.

That's not really a fair analogy though, is it?

It'd be more like a band being together for 15 years before releasing an album, releasing a few good but not great albums, releasing a couple classics, and then release another good album.

Very few bands have released more than a couple classic albums, so the odds would be that they wouldn't ever recapture that same level of music.

It's not an insult to say, "well, this album isn't quite as good as the last, but it's still very good". It's just the natural way of things. Some people may like that album more. Very few artists have been able to consistently knock everything they did out of the park (by their own standards) for their whole career.

I've been following Bill for 10 years. And I don't say that in the hipster "I liked that before it was cool" sense, but I was a huge Comedy Central and Chappelle's Show fan back in the day and still remember when he first started getting some shine. He always stood out as being very funny, but he just wasn't AS funny.

Then he hit that perfect storm for a few years where everything was clicking.

I saw Bill last year and his comedy in person isn't any different from his specials. And the jokes were stronger than this last one.

He did say in an interview Tuth posted recently that he works on something new during each special, so maybe physical comedy was his thing here.

That was the main thing with this one to me. Everyone has jokes that aren't as strong, but the delivery and the stage presence weren't there. A big example that stood out is when he's segging into the gun joke. In that and a handful of other instances, it just came off awkward. Whereas usually Bill has a great command.

Maybe he tones down the physical comedy a little and has stronger jokes in his next special and destroys it again. Not saying it's impossible.

Yeah, I meant more from a standup perspective. That's why I harped on his stage presence. Just sitting in a chair ranting he's as funny as ever.

And I hope we see him in more stuff, like movies and TV. Trust me, I'm rooting for the guy, and I'm not saying he's just going to completely stop being funny.

He's done a lot of these jokes on Conan, and I think he did them better there. I think it might have partly been the audience. Maybe Atlanta was a bad town to do the show in.

I think it does work better on Conan though because he has a straight man to riff off.

Comedians have off nights. It just seems his timing and flow wasn't at his best for this one. And his style does seem to be changing. But his podcasts have been consistently strong this year, I don't think we can write Bill off. George Carlin got way better through his 50s and 60s.

I watched this a while ago on Netflix. By FAR Bill Burr's best work ever. He really took it to the next level with this one, it blows any of his other specials out the water. His deliver has improved dramatically.

Atlanta was a weird choice. There was a moment I picked up on during the show where a bit didn't go the way he wanted because of the crowd. His joke about the .22 around 15 minutes left of the show, if you skip to around 13:25, he was looking for the audience laugh on "If he had the .22". He didn't get it, and most wouldn't have even realized, because he's a professional comic and he knows when a laughs not coming, so he doesn't even linger on it for but a moment, but sometimes crowds and comics don't mix perfectly. It wasn't a bad set by any means, but for making a special he should've stuck to LA/Chicago/New York or even Phoenix.

Saw this recently and I gotta be honest, I'm not sure what you guys are seeing here. Don't get me wrong there are very funny bits here and there but this guys strikes me as a crypto-SJW leftist. There was some strong, but subtle, white people bashing in this special.

RE: Bill Burr's "I'm Sorry You Feel That Way"
I felt the same as most of you guys after the first viewing (that it was solid, but not up to the last two specials). It actually gets better on repeat viewings. I watched it a second time with my girlfriend and parents over Christmas, at the end of a night where we watched all his specials in a row. It just lacks the amazing closer of the previous special (Gold Diggers... probably tied as my favorite comedy routine ever with Stanhope's Libertarian Urban Hooker), but in context with the others it is every bit as good in terms of material, and better in terms of physicality and tone.

In response to the poster above, he is married to a university-educated Black woman who watches Oprah, so some of that is bound to seep in, but for the most part it seems like he's actually smuggling in a very subversive re-imagining of the white bashing... "yeah we're idiots and I don't really know what I am talking about, but...". Burr has always been golden at that.

Off the top of my head, the only material that seemed forgettable was the bit about the guy making faggy crying sounds on the airplane.

Weird. I felt his delivery was off, not that his skill has gone down, more that the particular night was not his best.

RE: Bill Burr's "I'm Sorry You Feel That Way"
I'm a huge stand-up fan in general and I've got to say, that this definitely was not Burr's best work. I don't think the club was a good choice. His jokes were falling pretty flat and generally were kind of repetitive of ones in previous specials. There were a couple of times were I was wondering if I accidentally selected an old special because the jokes were so similar. Don't get me wrong, Burr's worst day is a helluva lot better than most popular comics best days, and he had some jokes that had me keeling over with laughter, but not as much as his previous two.

I think this is pretty common with comedians on their first special once they've gone "big". Happened with Kevin Hart, too. His first couple of specials were absolute knock-outs then his first special after getting "big" at Madison Square just did not do it at all. It was almost awkward. Same thing happened to Gabriel Iglesias. Many comics recover from their first poor special and come back huge, and of course a bunch of comics don't necessarily. But I'm just going off of specials; put Bill Burr in a different club on a different day in a different city and I'm sure that he kills it.

For stand-up specials available on Netflix I especially recommend: Gary Gulman: In This Economy, Tom Segura: Completely Normal, Ralphie May: Austintacious, Mike Birbiglia: My Girlfriend's Boyfriend (although it is a little bit bluepill) and Ron White: A Little Unprofessional (red pill goldmine).

On a related note: is there enough demand for there to be a thread dedicated to stand-up comedy? If someone decides to start one, be sure to put it in Everything Else, or else it might get lost in obscurity in the KAAL section.

RE: Bill Burr's "I'm Sorry You Feel That Way"
I thought this was pretty solid red pill material. The bit about the joke written by a waitress in a restaurant, "We like our beer like we like our violence, domestic" was shiv in the side of SJWs and funny. Although "the faggy crying guy on the plane" bit was a little long, but he used that story to address the decline in masculinity. His story about not sleeping on the couch just because his wife was mad at him is married man/LRT red pill gold. I've heard many married comedians joke about their wives making them sleep on the couch when they are mad and women love those jokes. He didn't kowtow to women and told the married men to man up. "What's she going to do? You're stronger than she is." She can't body slam you. If she becomes passive-aggressive, agree and amplify or tease. If she withholds sex, jerk off. And his closer about what women really want in bed is excellent red pill material (Fifty Shades of Rape or whatever that book is).

Granted I thought "You People Are All the Same" was better simply because it had a stronger closer (Epidemic of Gold Digging Whores). But this special was still very good.

I thought it was his weakest one to date.

He keeps on bringing on that there are too many of us on the planet. Something that many of the elite have been saying for awhile now. He is almost up to the 90% number that is on the Georgia Guidestones.
