1.) For the most part, time you spend chasing girls would be better spent improving yourself. Less time meeting girls and more time becoming the man they want to meet.

2.) Alcohol. Have some fun with it, but by 25, it's not going to be novel anymore, and at this age (maybe a few years later), the negative effects will increasingly start to outweigh the positive ones. Even before 25, start to learn how to have fun, go out at night, and talk to people without it. It becomes a life long crutch for too many people.

3.) Understand that your time and your body are the two things in life you don't get more of. Don't abuse them and don't let others abuse them. Which leads into my final point (others have talked about it too but I feel it can't be said enough:

4.) Be very discriminating with who you let into your life. Understand what real friendship is (hint, it's not drinking buddies), and recognize that, unfortunately, there are MANY toxic people in this world. You'll have "friends" who you party with that will make you look bad behind your back. You may not take the bitchiness or craziness of some women that seriously at 20, but as you get older a crazy/bitchy woman has ways to burn you that can really be a hinderance in your life. Good relationships are better than none, but none is certainly better than bad relationships. Free yourself of NEEDING relationships allows you to pursue only the ones worth while.

I'm in my late 20's but here's something I recently learned and would tell every man in his early 20's: Don't live with a girl and be in a serious relationship in your 20's for more than a week or 2 (different than having female roommates you aren't banging, but I can't say anything about that). Settling down in your 20's is a waste because as you get older you'll be more and more interested in 18 year olds. Your girlfriend is only getting older. It's best to recycle new girls at least until you're old enough to settle down (mid 40's? I don't know).

You'd have to be there to know what he means, but briefly - for all the macho BS, it's still a low level government job in an enormous bureaucracy. That, and if you are in the combat arms (Marines and Army jobs, mostly) you will very likely be stationed hours away from anywhere desirable women congregate your time off will be too far away to establish any kind of worthwhile social circle beyond strippers, fat whores and single moms. It is a self-imposed minimum security prison.

You may still want to do this out of patriotism or whatever, but take a look at the country (at least in the US) that you are pledging your time to - do they really, truly deserve it? Twenty years or more ago, I would say yes; nowadays, I'm not so sure. Don't spend your valuable youth white-knighting for it, trying to save something that just doesn't want to be saved.

At least if you made the less retarded decision of joining the Air Force you'd have a slightly more technical job and work with slightly less retarded people. And of course among the services, the Air Force has the hottest women - or at least they used to. I'd still avoid banging any kind of government-controlled property whatsoever in this day of false rape accusations.

As for the Navy, if you want to jack your dick on a submarine or chase after skanks on an aircraft carrier for three or four years, have at it. I'm thinking there's better use of your time.

Why people are so different:

We all carry a model of the universe around in our head. How to walk, talk, the ability to predict danger, how things work and why things work are all simulated in our brains. Becoming Self Employed:

Leaving a safe, secure job to start a business. It’s a scary, hard thing to do. Your friends, parents and peers will all advise against taking the risk. What if you fail? What if it doesn’t work out?

Well, if you really crash and burn and utterly fail in a complete way…. Then you will just have to get a job again. I mean you have a job now, right? So you can get a job back if it all goes wrong.

So if you think about it, you are currently in the WORST POSSIBLE position you can be in, right now.

About money:

It’s all just junk. Look around you, all that stuff. Junk. Any man whos been divorced can tell you that even when it all gets taken off you, life goes on, it’s definitely not the end of the world. Live your life like it’s all going to get taken off you tomorrow. What a relief, no need to worry about it now.

Spend it on experiences, helping others, developing yourself –all these things can never be taken off you.

Its you who earned and acquired all that stuff. You can do it all again tomorrow. It’s not what life it all about.


Stop ameliorating discomfort

I see people jump through hoops to avoid discomfort. They don’t want to be too hot, too cold, work too hard, sweat, carry heavy things or confront painful truths. The problem is when you go through life avoiding discomfort, your threshold to tolerate pain and discomfort narrows, creating a constant feedback loop of trying to avoid but then still feeling discomfort.

“Grasp the nettle” - embrace pain, discomfort and hard work. It makes you tougher, makes comfortable times more pleasurable and gives you back the energy you would have spent dodging discomfort at all costs to do more noble things. Otherwise known as “take a spoonful of cement and harden up princess” in my native tongue. Or as one of my favourite sayings goes “On a dark, rainy, windy night… Enter that darkness”

Some people said not to worry about money, that it only buys you material nonsense that isn't worth a damn. Those are the words of someone who probably has had a lot of money. Sure, having a very expensive couch doesn't really make your life better. But being financially secure is very important. You never want to worry about putting food on the table, about paying rent, about making yourself dependent on someone else. It's an awful feeling. Get your money right so that later on you can say "Eh, the fine wine, beautiful car, nice clothes, it doesn't bring true happiness".

I believe the Most important lesson is to balance life and work. I have many friends who were underachievers and laid back who are dead broke in their early thirties while a select few others such as myself placed a heavy priority on financial success with unbridaled ambition. I always believed and still do that money will buy you a certain degree of happiness or for some it will buy comfort in misery.

Overall, I wish I would have enjoyed my 20s more by dating more , going out , traveling. Now as I am older I am somewhat jaded by financial success. For me it has become a series of never ending achievements. However, as each achievement is obtained the feeling of accomplishment has diminished.

The only thing that keeps me going is starting another project or two concurrently while closing another. The chase is what keeps moving... The feeling of struggling to overcome a series of seemingly insurmountable obstacles.

My grandfather was picked on by a kid in the 30s. Then one day he punched him squared in the face. He never had it happen again.

All of my mistakes, and I mean every one of them, from career to marriage (which are the choices you make during your 20s and 30s) can be traced back to decisions made to satisfy other people.

Get a full time job at 18. Stay at home [If possible]. Save 90% of what you've earn't. Buy a one bedder outright at 22. Your biggest financial burden disappears. Decisions from here on out are less about money and more about preference.

The Air Force has the best facilities of all the services ---barracks, chow halls, gyms, etc. Also, Air Force girls are the most attractive by far.

And the Air Force is just less tough than the Army and Marines. Their physical training is very light. They don't pretend to be a combat arms service, but they still defend the country in a real way.

**Don't ever take advice about the military from someone who has never served. You could end up making a mistake that will punish you for years.**
