I always dress very casually. When it’s hot, I wear a t-shirt, jeans and sneakers. I have large tattoos on my arms that are very visible, if that matters. When it’s cold, I wear a hoodie, jeans and sneakers. I have nicer clothes in my closet, but I hate dressing nice because it’s extremely uncomfortable and it’s just not my style. I’m in my late 20s, but I look no older than 18 and I’m tall and skinny.

If I date women in their late 20s and early 30s, is it okay to dress that casually on a date? Is it considered weird for a guy in his late 20s to wear those clothes during a date? I’m primarily interested in doing a coffee date for a first date and then dinner dates after that, but not at expensive restaurants.

Is it okay to wear those clothes on a coffee date if it’s the first date? What if it’s a second date and it’s a dinner date at a relatively cheap restaurant ($10-15 entrees)?

What do guys usually wear on the first few dates if they are coffee and dinner dates?

Is it a deal breaker if a guy dresses very casually on the first few dates (t-shirts and hoodies etc.) if they’re coffee dates and dinner dates at restaurants that aren’t very expensive? What do women in their late 20s and early 30s usually think of a guy that dresses very casually for a date? Is it a bad idea to have tattoos showing on your arms (if they’re large tattoos) during a coffee or dinner date?

I would say for a first date/second date a buttondown, jeans, and nice casual/tennis shoes are a good bet. I wouldn't do the hoodie unless you are wearing it outside when its cold and are walking from one venue to the other. Also wouldn't do a t-shirt unless it's a designer t-shirt from a place like Gap or Express during the summertime. A tshirt with your favorite sports team or a generic one is an absolute no-go. On the other end you don't want to wear a suit and tie either.

As for the tattoos, I guess it depends on the girl. She will see them sooner or later, especially if you want to do the deed.

I can only speak for my area of the country, but I wouldn't do the T shirt and sneakers unless you're dating tatted up biker chicks or real slutty women.

If you're doing that super casual stuff, you're dressing like every other hipster/ young dude in your area. You're not standing out.

When you dress a little nicer, you are perceived as higher value. It's the same concept as if a woman shows up wearing flip flops and gym pants to a date versus dressing nice and feminine.

I'd agree with the above poster. I'd wear a button down, nice jeans, and maybe desert boots or even suede brogue oxfords. If it's cool or cold, a nice blazer. I'd always err on the side of dressing nicer than super casual. The way you present yourself and the pride you take in your style say a lot about how you view yourself and how you present yourself to the world. Women will perceive you as higher value.

Women respond positively to stylish men.

I get more attention and IOIs from women, even much younger women, when I'm dressed nicely.

How you dress depends on your body type and what you can pull off. When I was skinnier, I used to always wear a pressed Armani shirt, some polished Allen edmonds shoes and nice designer jeans. I would spend hours getting ready. I had a lot of success with women. I put on a lot of muscle since then and this past few month I've been rolling with a fitted tshit, jeans, cowboy boots, rosary beads, and some leather bracelets. I have the same amount of success as I did before.

I also use to roll with guy name Matt. He was 6 '4, jacked, , poor as fuck, and went to clubs in gym shorts and old t-shirts. He was pulling 8's and 9's on a weekly basis. He had the body type and the confidence to pull it off.

I've gone on dates suited up, blazer button down shirt and jeans, henley or v-neck and jeans, and when its really hot, just a tank top and shorts. I don't think the type of outfit I wore(casual vs. dressed up) was a gamebreaker in whether or not I got mine during a date.

As long as your look is within the context of the date (congruent with date venues and your personality), and your clothes fit well, you should be good.

Try different looks across a number of dates and see what works best for you.

What are these nicer clothes? Have you tried wearing them for an extensive period of
time so that you become comfortable with them?

I used to dress with skate shoes, jeans and a hoodie. I'm in my early thirties. It was uncomfortable for me to start to dress nicer. I was thinking "oh, superficial guys dress like that", "oh, older men dress like that" and such bullshit. Now I feel very comfortable and I walk with higher confidence. Pretty nice result honestly. There's a lot more that can be said on that topic ...

For a first date I wear chukkas or nice boots, slim fit dark jeans and a casual shirt (not a t-shirt). And then whatever jacket is weather appropriate. I get clothes that are of good quality and fit well. It's still pretty casual, but it's obvious to a woman that I'm a guy who is thoughtful about how he dresses.

I agree that you would be fine with a well fitting button up with jeans and sneakers instead of a t-shirt for the first meetup. I also have no tattoos so maybe t-shirts fit better with your style because you can present your tattoos? Regardless of what you wear I believe an important thing is how the items fit your body, NO baggy clothes you want people to admire your body not hide it from them. Most important is how you carry yourself or your "vibe".

Okay, I’ll dress up a bit.

I have a bunch of long-sleeve button-down shirts (plaid and solid-color). I have a pair of black nike sneakers (nike air pegasus) and a pair of black adidas sneakers (adidas gazelle). If I wear a pair of relaxed fit (not baggy, but not slim-fit) jeans, a black long-sleeve button-down shirt and a pair of sneakers, would that be okay? Does that outfit sound like a good plan? Can those sneakers still go well with jeans and a long-sleeve button-down shirt? Or would sneakers ruin that look? I’d really rather avoid wearing dress shoes because I have knee problems and wearing dress shoes aggravates it, especially if I walk for extended periods of time, and they also tend to cause blisters.

In general, do the sneakers I described go well with jeans and a long-sleeve button-down shirt? And in general, do long-sleeve button-down shirts go well with jeans (even if you’re wearing dress shoes)? I want to look like I put some effort into my appearance while still being able to walk comfortably (part of the reason I dress so casually is because of comfort).

Date with a late 20s or 30s chick? Unless the date's in a secluded spot, I would dress "up." Jeans are okay but maybe get a dress shirt or even collared polo on and some decent shoes. That shouldn't be too difficult.

I know you don't care but the shallow people at the venue (including the girl) will which may ruin your chances for even a hug.

All depends on your style and personality. You can pull almost anything off as long as you own it. I'm not saying wear a three wolf shirt but it all usually comes down to personal style. Do what you feel most confident in wearing, and own that shit.

What works for me:

Warm Weather
Jeans, sneakers or boots, tucked in graphic or sweater tee, stand-out belt buckle, hat optional,
Black slacks, italian loafers, button down shirt (ironed or permanent, no-curl collar), black alligator skin belt

Cold Weather
Jeans, boots, stand-out jacket (think H&M) t-shirt or sweater underneath, matching scarf & hat (both don't have to match, but should go with something else you're wearing; i.e. coat)

Dressing well is one aspect of looking good. There are many aspects to looking good, and looking good is one aspect of attracting women.

We all make a lot of small decisions that add up to us coming off well or not. One single change isn't going to tilt things too far in one direction, but I think every little bit helps. Dress sharply and you will impress just a bit more.

Hoodies are ridiculous, how would you feel if a girl came in a hoodie to your date?

Tattoos are legit most girls will probably be attracted to them, go for a more badass vibe.

In France I always wear shirts and a blazer and I've gotten lot of compliments from non-french girls for the blazer...french girls are just expecting it so they don't comment it..it's a style that I apply more and more in my everyday life so for me it doesn't take me any effort to dress well.

I kind of understand why people dress stylishly in Paris and north of France, the weather is perfect for it...never too hot...never too cold.
