This winter has been notoriously bad for Boston — more than 104 inches have fallen in the city and the surrounding area.

So when Susan Zalkind got a stomach bug after one of Boston's particularly bad snowfalls, she decided to try a rather unusual method to dig her Honda Fit out of the snow.

She turned to Tinder.

Zalkind, who says she's used Tinder in the usual way before, changed the bio section of her profile to be clear about what she was looking for in a man: a snow shoveler, and nothing more.

"Looking for someone to shovel out my car. Nothing complicated, no strings attached, just please shovel out my car. Thanks so much," it read.

In less than 15 minutes. Zalkind had three offers from dudes who wanted to help. A 38-year-old guy was the first to show up, and he "wasn’t creepy at all. I think he just got a kick out of being chivalrous and having a little company on Valentine’s Day," she said.

Later on, another winter storm pummeled Boston, so Zalkind turned to Tinder again. After some searching, she found another nice guy who shoveled out her car for her. In total, Zalkind got 74 right swipes, 35 matches, and 11 offers from willing shovelers.

It's a far cry from people using Craigslist to find "blizzard boyfriends," but it's a clever Tinder use-case nonetheless.

When you have the worst ratios in the modern world, this behavior can only be expected.

Assume it went something like this:

The clown met her outside with his shovel, they both said hi. He tried making conversation, she laughed it off in oh-youre-so-silly way and told him it was cold.

Probably called him a "lifesaver" and said thank you several different ways. He may have asked for her number, which she rebuffed.

She probably made a facebook post bragging about it or uploaded a picture of him shoveling the snow (which may have taken him over an hour) with a series of stupid hashtags like #noShovelingForMe #TinderFans #yeahIGetwhatIwant.

When he was done, she may have come outside to thank him one last time, or even brought him coffee or hot chocolate (probably not - but it is possible). He may have asked for her KIK/Whatsapp/Snapchat thinking he had a better chance at getting one of her usernames than a personal number.

After the poor sap went home, he messaged her on tinder asking if she had weekend plans. She either didn't reply, or replied "Hey I told you, I just needed my car shoveled, thank you one more time".

The guy then either became an orbiter, or hopefully forgot about her. That window period of isolation meeting her while holding his shovel while trying to make a good impression in person is the only reason he did it. Essentially, America's ratio is so bad that regular guys will brave the elements to talk to women. Most were probably normal guys and not complete beta/omega stooges. Obviously this guy lacked game, but more guys are turning to low-game methods hoping these methods magically become effective when all options are exhausted because they don't know what else to do. A lot of them may simply have bad game or the personality of a junebug. Paradoxically, it's kind a throwback to back in the day, do something nice for the girl, go the extra mile, hope she likes you and sees you're a good guy therefore giving you a chance at a date where you can actually get to know her.

Meanwhile, assuming she kept the "looking for someone to shovel out my car" on her profile, the requests kept piling up faster than the snow.

As the US continues to goes this direction, we're going to see a trend of women using Tinder and similar apps strictly for favors. And with the abundance of white knights, we can only expect it. A large percentage of men are going to be nothing more than servants because it's a guarantee of individual one-on-one attention with a woman, even if for a short timeframe. Woman says on tinder "I want chipotle right now". Gets 5 offers from men in orbit. It may even overtake Uber. Woman says on tinder, "I want a free ride right now". An orbiter steps up immediately.

Any guy who makes even the slightest hint at a real date after doing one of these favors (or when meeting the woman) will immediately be deemed creepy. It's essentially men for hire who will work for free with no strings since the main (or only) stipulation is avoidance of sarging.

There did you find this stat? I know it's been referred to before. When I use Wiki for ratios by country it seems to be 1 to 1 for the 15-64 age group.
