I am looking to sell a product online and want to ask if people have good examples of effective but simple sale websites.

Is there any sites that you find particularity impressive and that have a very smooth transition into sales?

Preferably a website with only a few different pages and only one or two products...

Amazon is actually pretty good even if you only have one product. You get exposure and you can outsources the shipping to them. All you do is pay a small fee based on an area it takes up at their warehouse. For one product websites check out some of the more successful kickstart products like coolest cooler or soylent, not the kickstart page but the actual website for the product.

For reasons I can't state Amazon won't be suitable and all leads for the product have to be directed to a private website. I have my own website bought and am now working on the design. I get Amazon is good but I need a design for my own website that is realistic to build on a smaller budget.

For example one site I like is Netflix.com which has minimal content and is sales driven. Also Blendtec.com has a great design.

Is there a product that you buy from the products own site that you really like the websites design? Maybe you find it really simple to use or just enjoy the layout?

Freckle has maybe the nicest sales page I've seen. Transitions nicely into the checkout process too. It's apparently a high converter — I've read a couple case studies on it but couldn't find them Googling just now...

They're a digital product (or SAAS) but with some slight adaptations you could do something similar for a physical product.

Nope, I am not joking. You want to make sales? Look at Amazon. The format, the color, they test everything.

I don't understand why you are only interested in sites with two products. The goal of this game is to make sales and no one is better at that than Amazon. Surely there is something you can learn from them even if you are only selling one or two products.

Long sales copy work. If you're not their ideal customer, you will *shrug* away. I do as well for many things I am not really interested in. If you are interested, you will probably read through it. This stuff has been done for decades. Just different formats (newspapers full page ads, direct mail).

Use Wordpress with a simple theme that you like.
Use the GravityForms plugin to create a simple submission form with products, prices and quantities.

I have a small site at the moment where the customer enters a private page with a password for their club, selects the product details that they want, selects the shipping method and the total to pay is calculated.

Upon clicking submit, it sends them the payment details by email, stores their submission details on wordpress and also emails me their order.

If you spend some time tweaking it the process is very tight and looks awesome on the user front end, customized name emails etc.

EDIT - I'm self hosting but if you don't want to bother with it Victor over at Bold and Determined has BADnet where they could set it all up for you. I was gonna do that, but they didn't reply to my question so I figured it out myself.

A sales page is commonly referred to as a landing page.. Unbounce has some good samples.

Okay fair enough. For this product it isn't possible because it is in a legal grey zone and would probably get pulled down but I will check Amazon out for future projects.

I'm not saying to list your product on Amazon. I'm saying look at Amazon to see how you can structure your own site.

I ended up hiring and quickly firing a online web designer. I then got the godaddy website builder and have done a pretty decent job of getting the site up myself. It is not amazing but it will do for now. Ill tweak it a bit more in the next few days.
