Working during summer holidays on Mallorca or Ibiza
Hello, this is my first post, please to meet you on this forum where we can exchange interesting opinions. I am 28 y old export administrator clerk in some company in Poland which is located in small town in Poland. I receive two propositions from my mates who are living abroad, to come and see them. One of them is living on Mallorca island. I am considering leaving my job in Poland, staying on Mallorca and looking for some occupation over there. Quality of my Spanish is poor, but my English and Russian are pretty good. Is it possible to find work, even on summer holidays over there with this language abilities? I will not lie but what is encouraging me is lifestyle and vibe of life in Spain and possibility of polishing my English and Spanish. While my post is mostly about Mallorca, if you have any thoughts about Ibiza please write, I'm really into DJ culture and find interesing activity on this Island would be even better than on Mallorca. Thanks.

Every year hundreds of wanna be DJ's try and move and make it on Ibiza, don't count on it unless you have massive connects.

+1, a friend of mine went to Ibiza chasing the same thing, came back heartbroken and penniless. It's a pure jackals game out there.

You have higher chances of getting discovered on Youtube. If you don't know people don't go there thinking gigs will come flying left and right

You're probably going to struggle massively to get a job DJing, as others have mentioned, unless you have some good local connections. However, thousands of English people move to the Spanish islands to do temporary summer work ever year. They get work as barmen or promotions people - trying to get tourists into the bars. The pay is terrible (it can be as low as 20eur a night) but you'll get commission based on getting people into the bar. You dont need any Spanish, you'll be dealing with English/Irish/German etc tourists almost exclusively.

If all you want to do is sit in the sun and drink (and hit on tourist girls) for a few months you should absolutely give it a try. Especially if you have a friend already there to hang out with. Just be aware that it can be quite hard - having to hustle every night - so you'll need a fairly outgoing personality. And you won't be saving any money. But if you're young its a good way to spend a summer.

Have a look on Facebook for workers groups in each place, like this: https://www.facebook.com/groups/14625998...1/?fref=ts

You'll find more specific information there.

Exactly, work in a bar or handing out flyers/selling tickets to shit.

It'll be great fun.

It's maybe too late for this year to go with a job already lined up as the season has already started I think. Best to just turn up and get your hustle on.

If you can't hustle a job there you won't cut it at hustling party tickets so it's a good test for you.

Thanks for answers, and useful information. I am not naive that I can become a DJ only beacuse I will fly to Mallorca/Ibiza. But working in a bar or handing out flyers would be fun.

What about hospitality? Couldn't you work at the front desk of a hotel?

Yes I would like to, I think it would be good method to meet lot's of tourist and livelihood during summer on Balears. Skills are transferable, so till robots/androids didn't take over all of proffesions I could work in many interesting places over the world.

Front desk work at hotels is easy easy stuff. I did it part time in college. Obvious downsides are whiny customers, but if you're in a nice location like Ibiza who cares.

If you want to go for something super legit in hospitality, you could join the "Concierge Union" The Golden Key. You'll be able to leverage connections between your guests and local businesses (bars/clubs/restaurants/etc).
Here's the UK website:

There is also one for the USA. I almost became a concierge but I got a better paying job.

Take a look at it.

Information from their website - Membership of the Society is limited to uniformed concierges serving in hotels of an acceptable standard. Applicants must have five years service as a Concierge and be supported by two members of the Society. Candidates are interviewed by members of the Committee to assess their competence, also their suitability.

Pretty long way to become their member, but thanks for support.

Sorry didn't see that. Worth a shot If you plan on staying long term. Definitely check out front desk work at a hotel or B&B.
