The Economist has a nice article about it.
....But women in the armed services are sometimes their own biggest obstacles to promotion. They are more likely than men, for example, to transfer to the national guard or reserve after having children. The greater flexibility helps, as they are also more likely to be single parents: female service members’ marriages fail at three times the rate that male service members’ do. This means that 12% of active-duty women bring up children alone, compared with 4% of men. Jennifer Spooner, a marine officer until 2006, says one of the main reasons she stopped serving was in order to be with her small daughter. “So often I couldn’t even call her because of the time differences. That was the hardest thing for me when I was deployed,” she says.

I like the magazine, but so much of the rest of the article, is trying to defend the entrenched feminist position. But some truth does come out from the mind of an economist.

American women are never going to be effective warriors, officers or leaders of any kind. I was so disgusted by the character "Jackie" on house of cards having the whole "I've got PTSD because I authorized these drone strikes and that means I've killed people" bullshit. Somehow despite the overwhelming herd mentality, they lack the ability to assign significance outside their sphere of attention.

I had a female Staff Sergeant for a couple years. She was petty, foolish, very driven, a total slut, easily dominated by men (myself included on some occasions), strong willed, and mildly effective as a leader of a minor support staff. She had the "tin god" mentality that a lot of us men shared, but her ability to lead was limited by her ability to gain attention. Nothing mattered to her outside of the areas in which she was able to garner praise or criticism.

They belong back in the old WAC squads as secretaries, learning how to do their make up and take down messages for men who can actually take charge of shit.

The Outrage is that on this issue, there is so much scientific and sociological evidence for the truth.....but Americans now, just dont give a damn about that.

I was in 2ndMarDiv for a while and I can say without a doubt that the "clique" factor of female Marines definitely gives rise to a host of problems. They love to withhold knowledge to make those below and above them look like shit. As a flip side to this, after the incident they can 'whip their subordinates into shape', or after their superior faces public reprimand convince others that he's a shitty leader. They aren't reprimanded for it because they wield their sexuality over the higher ups, play games, ingratiate themselves with the higher ups, and when something goes wrong they just sit down and have a 'chat' with the CO to explain everything. This 'explaining' ends up putting the blame on external factors, completely unrelated to their shitty job performance. They constantly lack physical performance, and the exceptions break the rule, but the rule still applies. I went on a company run once where the CO took off at a 7 min/mile pace, we didn't know for how long, and we didn't care, within forty yards, all 9 office/desk females had fallen out, psychological fuck fuck games. He ended up J-hooking and running 400 yards to an open field to have a combat soccer company PT session. Needless to say those 9 females couldn't run 40 yds because of what they thought lay ahead, pain and misery. They weren't black-balled or given shit by the higher-ups for being weak, they were sent to 'medical' given a quick checkup, then were out running around playing soccer once they were 'cleared'. Firsthand experience of the mentality of females in a unit is like a thorn in your foot when this subject comes up. Rant over...

Just a quick one - on any given day maybe 5% of males in the navy/air force are on medical restrictions (no pt, no sport etc.). Of the roughly 15 girls in my unit you can guarantee at least 4 of them will be complaining of some ailment to escape any sort of physical exertion. You will even spot some crying while running laps. No joke
