Just received an offer for an IT job as a 3-4-5 consultant which requires me to work in the client's Charlotte, NC office Monday through Thursday.

But here's the thing...I do not have to live in Charlotte; I can live anywhere I want. The consulting company will fly me into Charlotte every Monday morning...and then to fly me "home" every Thursday evening. Also, while I'm working with them M-Th in Charlotte, the company pays for my rental car, hotel, and meals.

This means that I'll essentially only have to pay my own living costs when I'm not in Charlotte; in other words, Thursdays nights through Sunday nights.

As I think about the situation, it doesn't make sense to rent an apartment in another city. After all, why pay rent on a unit that I'd only be sleeping in 4 nights out of each week? And even if I were to rent an apartment in Charlotte itself, I'd still only live there for 4 nights (since the consulting company is paying for me to stay in a hotel Mon, Tues, and Weds).

I'm single with no kids, so I'm wondering...should I just live 100% out of hotels? Also, where is the best place to go on those 4 nights that I'm not in Charlotte? I have the option to change the city that I fly to/from every week, so I could pretty much travel anywhere that's accessible from Charlotte's airport.

Curious to know if any other consultants are on here...and in general, what's the best way to play this situation in order to maximize the free travel benefits while also reducing housing and other expenses.

Outside of Charlotte you have Wilmington, Raleigh, Durham, and Charleston.

Last time I checked Charleston had a 6-1 ratio.

Just keep in mind that weekly traveling can be a grind after a while. Pick a city that isn't going to have shit weather which then delays your flights etc.

You barely get home, decompress and then on a plane again.

I have a suggestion for your 3 Nights in Charlotte, Airbnb search the area and look for whole Apt/Houses. Try few one night each and then make a direct deal with the Owner. You will come out a winner both in expenses and game. Girls would think that you are local and have an Apt there compared to a Hotel.

Make a profile on SA and start banging........

Thu- Sun I would just be chilling out on Water Preferably but that's me.

Drive times from Charlotte to:

Wilmington- 3 hrs, 32 min
Raleigh- 2 hrs, 42 min
Charleston- 3 hrs, 21 min
Myrtle Beach- 3 hrs, 42 min

It's faster to just drive to these places, rather than do the airport shuffle. This is where I'd be, without a doubt.

Why not do Atlanta? it's a decently large city, there's frequent direct flights to and from Charlotte, and there's more nice girls in the surrounding areas than there are elsewhere.

Well direct flights is key.... Personally I would try Florida.... I like the idea of the beach for a weekend....

Why not just live in Charlotte? Great weather, beaches and mountains within 3-4 hour drive, good bar scene, southern women everywhere. If you want to live on the coast Wilmington or Charleston are both solid, short flight into CLT from both cities, tons of women in each town, plus the beach. Nashville or Atlanta would be a nice spot that is a quick flight but they aren't that much different than Charlotte. Living out west and flying into Charlotte every week would be draining and time consuming.

As a former consultant, I can tell you this... The whole work life balance is a myth, and you have probably heard it before. The chance of you going out on a workday from Mon thru Thurs is almost slim to none. Over 80% of the time you will never get out of work early and even if you do you are probably going out with your coworker buddies. So IMO not worth the effort.

However, the rest of the week you could choose to live in a city with a higher population of single good looking women. In fact, you could fly out to a different city every weekend. I would go with Miami or NYC

When I was billed by the hour I got out on time. Although one contract with Eli Lilly's where I was working on a database for pacemaker defects they wanted me to "Help them stay within their budget" and work free hours.

yeah, sure. I told them to fuck off, I was taken off the project.

No where just pick cities, get an airbnb and after you've visited a lot of cities and had s chance to experience a few of them multiple times than make a choice. Even then!youre young enjoy life
